Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just fabulous We spent a two night foodie trip in Ambleside, drawn in by their great selection of restaurants. On our first night we dined at the Old Stamp House, also owned by the Chef in charge of Kysty. For the second night we thought...we would try the sister restaurant. Whereas Old Stamp House is a more 'fine dining' tasting menu place (and FABULOUS) Kysty is billed as a more relaxed affair. By that though, do not assume that this is not 'fine' - it's fabulous. Rather than a tasting menu, here you get a regular a la carte choice of starters, mains, puds and, if you want it, cheese etc. The choice was great. These are, therefore, larger plates than the ten smaller ones you get on a tasting menu but they were all cooked sensationally and presented with aplomb. Service too was superb, friendly and knowledgeable. We both had different starters and puds (both sublime, particularly my chocolate delice) but the same lamb main which was stupendous. We gushed with praise and the chef popped his head around to say thanks as the waiter had passed the message on. Wine list was superb too and we really enjoyed our choice of Bordeaux (and cocktails to start!). Final sad note - we were told by Ryan Blackburn that Kysty will be closing as he takes on new premises and is re-booting the concept. As such we are so glad we got to experience it when it was still open. I'd urge you to try to go before it is gone as it's a great evening of food in nice comfort and with excellent service. Highly recommendedMore

Lunch with. friend who lives locally who had told me how good Kysty is. This was my first visit and I was very impressed. Although quite small and informal this is a serious restaurant serving excellent food. Our starters of local goats cheese and beetroot...hit the spot. I chose the fish dish which clearly changes according to best fish available. In this case it was hake and very fine it was. In addition to good food the service was relaxed and professional. All told a good experience.More

It’s not often I give a 5 but this place is excellent, on every front, the presentation and quality of the food, the staff, the service and the value for money. I could not fault anything at all? You definitely need to book or you...will not get in!More

This is a simply wonderful restaurant, offering the range of flavours you might expect in a good tasting menu at a reasonable price and with fuller portions. I enjoyed delicious trout, venison, and a fabulous chocolate dessert, with excellent amuses bouches and bread. Others in...our party loved the lamb, cod and pork starters. There are sensibly priced good wines on the menu. Service was everything you’d expect, and the bill at £75 each with half a bottle of wine each, liqueurs and full menus, and service, was good value for the experience. Booking essential, with two sittings each evening.More

Back again and there’s a very good reason I keep going back to this wonderful place If you know, you know and if you don’t then get yourself a reservation and find out - you won’t regret it This is fine dining in a casual...relaxed warm and friendly atmosphere that delivers joy and delight from the first mouthful to the last. Take the little amuse bouche snacks, a beetroot meringue with horseradish that just explodes in the mouth with a wonderful intensity of flavour and a black pudding bonbon that is rich dark and so satisfying, and don’t get me started on the amazing home baked bread that has me wishing I could buy a basket full. The food is local fresh produce beautifully prepared and served with delightful little surprises and genius touches. It’s just divine. The amazing food is complemented by the whole team who are always so welcoming and attentive with impeccable yet warm and friendly service. We have now changed our approach to visiting Windermere and Ambleside from spur of the moment trips to planning visits around availability at Kysty You need to book ahead and there’s a simple reason why - it’s that good. Trust me you won’t regret it and hopefully you’ll then keep going back for more as I doMore

How to achieve a moist guinea hen breast with caramelised skin? The chef explained that it enjoys a water bath before being finished in butter and herbs in a pan. It was the best I've had. Under £30 for two courses of this quality is...hard to believe, but they manage it here and also add some delightful starter 'snacks'. We'd eaten the previous day at The Old Stamp House, that, too, a delightful bargain, Lucky old Ambleside – and there's talk of a move in the offing for Kysty. Not far, one hopes.More

We had a wonderful meal here this evening for our wedding anniversary and we couldn't fault it. Both had three courses plus a bottle of wine followed by amazing Petit Fours. Every course was delicious and beautifully presented and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly....Would recommend but booking essential as we had a few people come in looking for a table only to be turned away.More

We had an anniversary dinner at Kysty & it was absolutely delicious! We had 3 courses & were not disappointed by anything. Presentation, flavour, service, little amuse bouche starters, mini bread rolls to die for... everything was perfect. We hadn't heard of Kysty before, but...we'll definitely be back. Thank you so much for making our anniversary very special.More

From the moment we arrived, escaping the pouring rain so wet and half an hour early for our booking, we were made to feel welcome by the front of house staff. Why can’t all hospitality be like this? The menu was small but really interesting...- choice 3 each starters, main and puddings. My wife chose two starters - cured fish and a cheese mouse salad; I chose charred mackerel and stone fish. We were given three amuse-bûche while we waited. All the dishes were incredibly tasty interesting and unusual and beautifully presented, and the service was exactly right - attentive and friendly and very professional. It wasn’t a celebration but it became one for us - at last a restaurant in The Lakes that’s pretty well perfect. Oh and the bill, including wine but not service was £50/head for two courses. Truly Excellent value for money - we can’t wait to go again when we are up in the autumn. Well done Kysty!More

We dined here with friends and I would definitely return. The service was excellent and the waitress gave me great confidence in dining here when explaining options for coeliacs. Most dishes could be adapted to gluten free.
