Evening meal for 3, prawns and figs for starters, sea bass, lamb special and beef short rib for mains followed by a sticky toffee for pudding. Fig starter lovely with a fresh dressed salad, prawns perfectly cooked. Only request would be more sauce with the prawns to soak up the great bread. Fish and meats cooked really well, Short rib was so soft and moist. All served with well cooked veg and each dish had individual sauces that were packed with flavour. Very friendly and efficient service. Bellis is a great asset for Ambleside with great food at a very good price point.

Almost stumbled upon Bellis, but SO glad we ate here. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, the food was absolutely delicious (wife said her steak was up there with some of the best she's had, and my lamb cutlets were absolutely gorgeous, I could've eaten about 10 of them haha). REALLY nice ambience in there, lighting and music were spot on (so many restaurants miss a trick on lighting), and a good choice of drinks; slightly more expensive than the average Ambleside restaurant (£110-£120 for two, including 3 drinks each and the wifes steak) BUT worth that little bit extra IMHO. Definitely back here next time we stay in ambleside.

We dined at Bellis last night during a stay in the lakes for our 10th wedding anniversary. We were looking for somewhere a little bit special and we certainly found it! It was absolutely amazing and we’d highly recommend it! The food was A* and very reasonably priced and the service was so friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. I had the roasted red pepper filled with halloumi and cous cous to start and my husband had the minute steak and rice starter. The portions were far bigger than an average starter and I kept commenting on how much steak there was, what I’d portion up for a full meal at home. Both delicious For main we both had beef rib and it was so tasty, and a huge piece! As much as I wanted to finish mine I couldn’t. It melted in your mouth. I would have loved to have crème brûlée for pudding, it’s my favourite and I’m sure it would have been the best I’ve ever had but I was too full. I would recommend booking at its a nice small restaurant and it was fully booked while we were there. We both commented on how nice the music was and the twinkling fairy lights. It was such a nice atmosphere. We’ll go again when we next visit the lakes! Thank you Bellis for making our occasion extra special

What a great find! We were looking for somewhere to eat on a very wet Monday evening in August. We were walking past the bistro and were drawn by the cosy look of this place. We hadn't booked and it looked quite busy but we went in and they did have a table for 2. What a find! The lady serving us was very pleasant considering how busy she was. We had olives and garlic bread to start and then we had braised beef and I had chicken stuffed with Blacksticks blue cheese wrapped in parma ham. Both were excellent. My husband had a scoop of ice cream to finish. The ambiance was helped by mellow music and a lovely bottle of reasonably priced wine. We will go back.

What a restaurant….if you are visiting Ambleside visiting this restaurant is a must. Ambience, decor, staff, food perfect in every way. We had beef rib and chicken and risotto. Thanks orations we’re generous and the food was fresh and the quality and preparation outstanding. The beef rib fell apart as I cut it and the jus was so full of flavour and the chicken with the black sticks blue cheese as a feast of flavour. The restaurant was quiet but I can assure you very soon as word spreads this place will be full. The is lots of choice in Ambleside with lots of traditional pub food but if you are looking for quality freshly cooked food with flavour and a lovely relaxing restaurant you must visit this restaurant. Was determined to be good and not have dessert but with a choice of sticky toffee pudding, biscoff cheesecake and creme brûlée we had to order…..and again was not disappointed. If I could give the owners one price of advice it would be to remove the sign for coffee and cake outside in the evening as we walked past the restaurant once as we thought it was more of a coffee shop and if we thought that I am sure other people and potential customers may do…..keep doing what you are doing otherwise

This is a very small restaurant with 25-30 covers , however, it produces a wonderful evening meal. Friendly and efficient staff with a nice ambience and a feel of personal attention. Had the Cullen Skink for starters & a perfectly cooked & presented rib eye steak at a very reasonable cost. I don’t like to praise places too much as everyone will try & attend & we won’t get in on our next visit. If you are in Ambleside this venue will be worth a look.

As first time visitors to Ambleside, Bellis was recommended to us by the B&B owner and we can honestly say that we weren’t disappointed. So much so we returned for a second visit 24 hours later. Although the menu is relatively limited, the quality of the food and skill of the chef were evident. Over 2 nights we sampled 4 different main courses - salmon, short rib of beef, sea bass and fillet steak - and each was cooked perfectly. The quality in the kitchen is equalled by the friendliness of the serving staff, who were a credit to the establishment. Next time we are in the area, will we be back? You bet!

We found this little gem by going in for a coffee in the morning and then seeing a specials board for dinner which had a pheasant dish on it that caught my husband’s eye. We asked to see the dinner menu and booked to come back the same day. My husband is quite fussy and usually there is not much choice of starter for him, however he was spoilt for choice here with four to choose from. He chose the pork belly with black pudding Bon Bon, which was very good. I had roasted pepper stuffed with red pesto, feta and couscous, which was also very good. For mains we had pheasant with wild mushrooms and a whisky and thyme jus served with creamy mash and roasted asparagus, and chicken breast stuffed with blacksticks blue cheese, wrapped in Parma ham and served on a mushroom risotto. Both were delicious and the chicken dish in particular was quite large. For pudding we ordered one sticky toffee pudding with ice cream to share but upon tasting it we tried to order another but sadly they had run out. This was the stand out dish for me, the grand finale to what had been a delicious meal; the sponge was infused with the sticky toffee sauce throughout, it came in a generous puddle of sauce which was so deliciously toffee flavoured without being over sweet, and the ice cream was the perfect compliment. I would never usually order sticky toffee pudding and I probably never will again, as nothing could be as good as this one. Service was very friendly and attentive without being overly rushed. We were brought water as soon as we sat down and menus followed promptly. My husband’s only complaint is that the restaurant is 250 miles away from where we live.

Having read the reviews there was no other place to have lunch in Ambleside, but we were lucky to get a table on a wet Tuesday in February. That says it all. A warm welcome, great service and fantastic food. The steak sandwich was perfectly cooked, and they use top quality beef; the chicken Caesar was also perfect, and you could taste the anchovies. Great coffee too. Can’t wait to try dinner.

We stopped for lunch and loved the bistro feel and comfy chairs. Home made curried lentil soup was fantastic, served with ciabatta. Chicken sandwich was served on focaccia with bacon and very tasty cheese. Tea was excellent quality. The staff were super welcoming and friendly. All reasonable too with soup only £6.

A very comfy cafe with plenty of space around the tables. Excellent selection of food from cakes & snacks to full meals. To accompany our coffees we selected the homemade soup & a toasted tea cake. All very delicious. Lovely staff made you feel welcome. Another to add to our list of ‘Lunch stops’

This new incarnation of Daisy's cafe is a cafe by day and a small bistro in the evenings, which punches above its weight. The garland outside is a bit over the top but don't let that put you off, the food is well cooked, imaginative and good value. The atmosphere was lovely and the music a nice addition, it all made for an excellent winter evening out . I was amused by the name, bellis is the botanical name for daisy, a nice nod to its heritage.

Best food establishment in Ambleside, we were on holiday and ate here 2 nights in a row it was that good. Friendly staff, great food and atmosphere, suitable for couples and older families, we will definitely eat here again if we are ever in the area and will be recommending it to anyone who is in the vicinity. I would recommend booking as I imagine once word gets out it will be difficult to get a table!

What a gem! Booked for a large group of 15 (including children) for a birthday meal and from start to finish had a wonderful experience. The food is amazing (between us we had a good range from the menu) and the atmosphere is great. The lady serving was on her own yet did an incredible job looking after us all. It was no trouble to adapt the menu slightly for the children and even add some extras. Highly recommend.. such good quality in the heart of Ambleside.

Gorgeous little restaurant with very welcoming staff. Food was delicious, I had the pheasant special and my husband had the steak. We chose a bottle of Malbec which could also be served by the glass which really was nice. The ambience of this restaurant was so nice, the food delicious and the service 5 star. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.
