We saw the board advertising lunch at £6 and decided to give it a try. Very happy we did, as all the meals were very good, freshly cooked and excellent value. My husband enjoyed the cumberland sausage in onion gravy, I had the salmon in leek sauce, and the girls had lasagne and gammon. Clean plates all round. The place... More

Looks a bit dated and the food is average. Saving grace is the 6 local cask beers. Service is friendly. Not the first pub you will head for but good if you want a quiet drink of a local cask beer. More popular , trendy places but worth a pint or two here

I had the chicken wrapped in bacon and my husband ordered the lamb Henry. They arrived quickly and were excellent. Our waitress was polite with a happy smile. She could have introduced herself at the beginning of our visit. But overall a very good experience and excellent value. Also a good selection of ales.

I had fish and chips, fish, literally so hard, cut my mouth,no waiting staff to complain to, my husband had steak, which was OK, when queuing to pay, asked if everything OK with meal, explained the situation, and the person just shrugged shoulders, expensive and not very good.

Popped in after a day on the fells, greeted with a fine selection of traditional beers at this Camera bar which is also featured in the good beer guide. A hidden gem of a bar. All the beers we had were really good. The beer garden could have done with a clean though but would definitely pop in again.

We ate at the Queen's Hotel on the 1st night on our road trip to Scotland. It was a good pub meal with good beer/drink. Very relaxed. Reasonably priced evening. We enjoyed it!!

The food is good value and good quality. Nothing too fancy but you are guaranteed a man size helping of proper, no nonsense fayre. There is also a good selection of fine ales on offer. We found the staff to be both friendly and courteous. We will definitely go back on our next visit to Ambleside!
