Fantastic in all respects. Great staff, good atmosphere and superb food. Everything looks simple but has layers of complexity of taste and texture. The detailed explanations reveal the work that goes into everything. Great value for money.

We have been coming here since its early days and the food continues to delight and surprise. With a well deserved Michelin star there is a growing confidence within the team which added to the joy of our visit. The food is extraordinary but always...delicious and the subtle twists on regular favourites are epic. Wine pairing impressed the drinkers on our table and good to see Chef James front of house and receiving his well deserved accolades. LRK goes from strength to strength. Bravo.More

Our first time at Lake Road Kitchen and we had an exceptional evening. On arrival I greeted the chef through the open kitchen hatch. He knew our names, knew that we were LRK virgins and that it was my birthday. SO impressive. And whether sharing...banter, describing the dishes or recommending wine, each one of the team was outstanding. Every course of our tasting menu was memorable. A reconstituted prawn was accompanied by olive oil sourced from Croatia. And the Comte cheese custard with chives was simply divine. And to cap it off, my cheesecake arrived with a lit candle. This is cooking of the very highest order and bears close comparison to its 3* neighbour in Cartmel. Thank you Lake Road Kitchen for the care, skill and passion you deployed to make our evening so memorable.More

Our second visit to LRK; every bit as good as the first, if not better, We mixed up the vegetarian and omnivore menus and could not fault a single dish. So much so that it’s hard to identify a standout, but the sublime parmesan custard...would have to be a candidate and the Wagyu beef was spectacular. And then there’s the fried chicken, the hen of the woods, the cheesecake… The sourdough bread too is in a class of its own. Everything beautifully presented with no fuss or fanciness. Wines are carefully chosen to perfectly complement the food and each pairing is knowledgeably and clearly explained. The welcome is generous and sincere, atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable, and service is superb, with every member of the small, highly skilled and dedicated team delivering plates to the table during the evening. The recently awarded Michelin star is very well deserved - about time too!More

Been to a lot of high quality restaurants but this was exceptional. Each course is curated with thought and some combinations I have never tried before in the UK. Felt like we were abroad. Love the Scandinavian vibe and the relaxed atmosphere .The service ,...from organising a taxi , the warmth in the restaurant, to the offer for cookies for afterwards, gave that thoroughly spoilt feeling. Go while you can.More

Amazing service, food and atmosphere. One of my favourite two restaurants ever. Having the chefs come out and explain with such passion the food they have created makes this place really stand out for me.

Our third visit to this superb restaurant. I’m not normally a fan of taster menus, but LRK manages to make every course stunning. My personal favourite was the pastrami, with the Parmesan Custard a close second. We brought friends who hadn’t been before and they...loved it. LRK deserves its Michelin Star. Great wine list and impeccable service.More

A return to Lake Road Kitchen was anticipated and did not disappoint. If anything the food was more refined and perfected. Delightful 5 course tasting menu with some optional extras (we chose the parmesan custard which was once again a quality flavour sensation) and bespoke...accommodation of allergy and pescatarian undertaken with grace and instilling confidence. Each dish a delight explained by the team including chefs and front of house engaging fully with the food and interest of the guests, including a great Italian wine recommendation. The stand out dishes were the the signature fried chicken and the Hen of the Woods mushroom, the preparation and attention to flavours and detail was once again standout and a real belief in good food to be enjoyed, but with attention to detail and therefore finesse clearly in full evidence. This was particularly well demonstrated by the dessert take on a New York Cheesecake with preserved blackcurrants, bringing smooth subtlety and just the right amount of sweetness and powerful intensity of the blackcurrant. The whole dining experience from service, ambiance, to the food was a delight and a real evening experience, that we will continue to return to with anticipation once again.More

We had dinner for the second time. I was with friends who had the meat tasting menu, I had the vegan tasting menu. It was so great to have a meal where every dish was carefully considered and balanced in flavour and texture and absolutely...delicious! I totally recommend it! My non vegan friends absolutely loved their meals too. We all agreed it was the best meal out we had had in ages and plan to go back. The Michelin star is well deserved.More

We visited the Lake Road kitchen a couple of years ago and have always wanted to return. There's a huge problem with this restaurant. Once you've eaten here you will never be able to eat anywhere else without comparing it. It spoils you for anywhere...else, it's so good. We constantly find ourselves saying 'but it's not as good as the Lake Road Kitchen'. This is place is an absolute gem (don't be put off by the exterior and location - it's the point of what they're trying to create - the low key kitchen vibe) and we were so excited to return to celebrate my husbands birthday - and we were not disappointed. We had the 8 course tasting menu. The food is incredible and it's clear the head chef has a huge passion for what he does and how much his diners enjoy his food.. you can see him watching the restaurant looking for reactions to his dishes. The fried chicken is probably the best I've ever had in my entire life and the sourdough bread is literally to die for. We love the relaxed unpretentious atmosphere. You can dress in jeans and a jumper and feel comfortable. They have created something very special here with the right intimate relaxed vibe, incredible food, amazing service and presentation. Can't wait to return.More

Came here to celebrate myself and my partners engagement. It was easiest the best meal we have ever had. We had the 5 course taster menu with wine pairing. The fried chicken in particular was incredible, however every course was exceptional in its own right....The service was so attentive with every course and wine explained. We will definitely be returning to try the 8 course taster menu. Only a matter of time before this gets a Michelin star. Worth the money to eat such high end food.More

We go to lots of fine dining restaurants which includes restaurants with up to 3 stars. Often the food is impressive, but is sometimes impressive for its own sake. The Lake Road Kitchen goes for fine dining that has a comfort food vibe from around...the world. A congee with beef reminded me of Taiwanese beef stew, and the popcorn chicken was Korean/Japanese with a little delicious spice. Our extra dish of Parmesan custard was comforting and rich but refined as well; somehow Japan meets Italy. Wine pairings are better than anywhere I can think of with care about how the dish is served with the wine. A monkfish dish had far too much rich beetroot jus with it, but as soon as you tasted the wine it all came together. The four-person team all pitch in with front of house mixing with chefs in presenting the food. The effect is very authentic and gels together well. Last time I ate this well, it was Tommy Bank’s 2 star restaurant in Yorkshire where one of the Lake Road chefs was a senior chef for some time. With the Asian influence the two chefs have come together to produce something that is interesting but still really comforting. I’d happily make a detour to come back here again.More

Everything about this place is amazing, we had the best night for hubby's birthday and our 25th Anniversary last night. The food was outstanding, we opted for the 8 courses but added in the parmesan dish to share as an extra which was the best...decision ever as it was exquisite! We loved that you are talked through every dish and couldn't believe how stunning the flavours were. Thanks to all 3 of you for making our evening so special. Best food we've ever had and we've eaten a lot of lovely food over the years! We will definitely be back xxxMore

Smart dress seems to be the norm here, so probably not. In any case booking is a must. I calls itself a bistro, but it is not a fast food restaurant at all.
