Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A place to go ONLY if you have money to burn. Standard of food IS SO OVER PRICED. Perhaps some of that profit should go to resurfacing the drive that leads to the cafe. Shocking! We should have went with my first impression and left,...gone somewhere else. Never again!More

Absolutely amazing, setting was awesome, food great and service brilliant. Very narrow road to get there but well worth the challenge.

We came to visit as a group of 10, with six young children. We were immediately made to feel welcome with an Easter Egg hunt in the gorgeous gardens around the 15th century farmhouse. There was a varied menu (including a very well priced kids...menu) with a variety of locally sourced items. We went for the Sunday roast and were really happy that we did! Following lunch we visited the cows and sheep on the farm before going on a exploratory walk up the hill and enjoying the breathtaking views. Can highly recommend a visit! We will be back.More

Having wanted a relaxing weekend we asked Jonathon if it was possible to have a meal in The Barn self-catering accommodation we were staying at on Bank Ground Farm. Little did we know that we would have such an amazing 3 course meal brought to...The Barn by Jonathon - beautiful smoked salmon and sour dough bread to start, farm reared lamb and beef with the best gravy and roast potatoes I have ever tasted! Mixed vegetables and massive, fluffy Yorkshires to top it all off! Then to finish, sticky toffee pudding with fantastic sauce and custard. My very hungry son-in-laws and husband were left with no room for seconds - always a good sign! I cannot praise the food and local ethics of chef and proprietor enough - very highly recommended!More

We have visited twice over the last week once for dinner and once for breakfast. Both times the food was excellent, the meat is extremely local and prepared with care. Although the menu is small it reflects the seasonal and local theme of the establishment....The location is incredible set on the banks of Coniston with exceptional views. The service is attentive and friendly, without being pushy, they’re passionate about their produce and are happy to make recommendations and explain where things are from. We would definitely visit again, booking in advance is recommended.More

Very friendly and down to earth establishment. Food oozes quality. Prices reflect the care and attention on the food prep with good local produce. Bonus - appears to have 2 working 7.2kW Type 2 EV charging points for customers.

I decided to book dinner here, for a family holiday in Coniston, after seeing positive reviews on tripadvisor, and it didn’t disappoint! The cafe / restaurant is off the beaten track - by just driving past you wouldn’t think such an amazing restaurant lies at...the bottom of the farm track. The restaurant was set up in the farm house, and had a quirky but homely feel. We had a lovely warm welcome on arrival and very friendly, attentive service throughout. A menu with plenty of choice and a lot of the food is sourced directly from the farm. The food was beautifully cooked and perfect portion sizes. Starters, mains and deserts were all delicious! We had a wonderful evening and would certainly return when we’re next back in the Lake District!More

Following a paddle boarding session we decided to have lunch here and we were not disappointed. The sandwich of the day was minted lamb which my husband said was delicious. My daughter and I had the salads (apple & fennel and chicken) which were amazing....Really lovely place in a stunning location. Well worth the visit.More

My daughter and I loved the Swallows and Amazons Cafe. We were staying at Bank Grounds Farm in one of the self catering cottages but chose to eat in the cafe three times during our stay. We had the most delicious dinner and there was...a good children's menu available for my daughter. She chose the fish fingers which were homemade fish bites, which she loved. I had the slow cooked lamb (all meat reared on the farm) it was beautiful. Fab desserts and a handy self-serve bar is available for the residents which made it feel very relaxed. We also brought some friends there for lunch one day and sat outside on the terrace looking out over the lake. They loved it. As the farm is located slightly off the beaten track and it is a bit of hidden gem.More

We ate here twice during our week in Coniston both times for an evening meal. Best food by far for an evening meal anywhere near Coniston. We were very warmly welcomed each time (first visit no room but booked for following night) really super friendly...guy looked after us. So sorry i didn't ever ask for his name. We were very impressed with our food & the service so booked again for our last night. Finding here really made our holiday, we had the misfortune to eat elsewhere & it was far from great! Whenever we return to Coniston we will 100% return for evening meals. It is very quiet (no music) in dining room, just as we like it, ideal to chat & not have to shout! Lovely local art work for sale on the walls . I fell in love with a stunning picture of a Ewe & almost came away with it!More

No cake. We had planned to stop of here at our walk near Coniston. When we arrived it was really confusing where to go. We expected a tea room experience but were told all the cake had gone (and it wasn’t yet 3pm on a...quiet Friday). How can you run out of cake! Anyway we walked a little further and we’re glad we did. The Bluebird Cafe on the shore of the lake near Coniston was superb. Lots of lovely cakes of all types.More

Beautiful old farmhouse in a spectacular setting, with a small but exquisite menu. Nice wine list, relaxed service - all in all I can't recommend this enough. Will definitely be back.

We stumbled across Swallows & Amazons on a sunny afternoon walk out from Coniston and so glad we did. We stopped for a delicious late lunch for four. Warm & friendly welcome from Ryan and excellent food from chef, Ross. So good we booked again...and have just returned from another great meal. Relaxed atmosphere, more great food and friendly service. Highly recommended and definitely worth the short drive from Coniston.More
