Delicious quality local produce, excellently prepared. We went for lunch after a bracing walk and thoroughly enjoyed the skills of the chef and the friendly service.

Stumbled upon this restaurant after a walk and was really surprised by the food on offer. The menu is mainly catering for variations on breakfast items but with Soup and a few other lighter lunchtime options. Decor is modern and bright and the service spot...on. What marks this place as utterly unique is the detail and clever twists on the trad English Breakfast - I opted for their full English (forgot their name for it tho !?). Home made thick sour dough toast, Sausage Pattie (like a burger ) - local dry cured bacon, Special mixed baked beans (black beans, flageolet, pinto and butter beans in a chipotle sweet sauce-). Cubed potatoes and black pudding diced with a bit of onion, proper fresh egg and home made brown sauce - GLORIOUS and different yet traditional - hot and fresh (no buffet style ‘left on a hot plate’ food here - you may have to wait for it to be cooked .. but it’s worth it !)More

Fantastic coffee and delicious cake! Cosy & charming cafe in Coniston. Set in a quiet delightful village away from the tourists in the Lakes District!

We have just spent another fabulous week in Coniston. We had Sunday lunch at Steam and were very lucky to get in on Friday night for a 3 course dinner. From the first mouthful to the last everything was fantastic. Can not praise highly enough...from the food through to the service. I would recommend Steam to anyone visiting Coniston wether it's for breakfast or lunch or for the occasional evening meal. One of our favourite places to eat and will always pay a visit when near to Coniston.More

We had seen the great reviews and wanted to give Steam Bistro for my mums 85th birthday. The menu is lovely. Not too expansive but certainly something for all tastes. It got busier as the afternoon progressed and the waitress was brilliant at keeping everyone...up to speed with where she was up to so no one was left wondering when they would be served etc. A real skill and she was lovely and friendly without being intrusive. The food was really delicious. We had the burger with the brisket on top. Just what I wanted and seems so rare to get a great burger nowadays. Other meals were mushrooms and chorizo on sourdough toast with feta and salmon and scrambled eggs on sourdough toast. Really good portion size and lovely to see the list of suppliers for the different ingredients on the blackboard. We finished off with a coffee, also delicious and again sometimes hard to find. We would definitely return and recommend.More

This is the place to go. Forgot all the other places in Coniston, maybe even the Lake District, the love that is pumped into this place and it’s food daily shines through in every mouthful. We are local to the area and have tried many...places as we are huge foodies but always end up back at Steam. The quality of the ingredients that are sourced to make each individual dish are outstanding. As everything is made fresh there can be a wait on food but trust me it is so worth it!!More

We have been going to Steam for a number of years when visiting the lakes, always arranging a day in coniston so we could go for dinner and always experienced excellent service and outstanding food. At the moment Steam are unable to open evenings so...rather than miss out this year we went for lunch, and wow! It’s the best lunch around, great service a wonderful menu and some imaginative specials and as always the food is brilliant So if you’re anywhere near coniston (and I promise you it’s worth a detour ) make sure you do yourself a favour and support this wonderful restaurant.More

Best food in Coniston and it’s surrounds. Delicious, innovative, affordable. Only open 9-4 Thursday to Sunday with weekend evening pop ups. Best cakes in The Lakes. Wonderful chefs, arty surrounds, welcoming staff but the food speaks for itself. Miss it miss out!

The best vegetarian cafe we've been to. There was so much choice on the menu for meat eaters and vege/vegan. The staff were really attentive and gave a warm welcome. Not dog friendly but you can sit on the front. We enjoyed it that much...we went back again.More
