I will start as I always do with the postives on the review before moving onto the negatives.
The location is excellent, being right in the middle of grasmere and within walking distance of many pubs, bars and beautiful walking routes. there is also ample parking which is always an issue for the lakes.
now with the good out of the way I would be lying if i didnt say i was somewhat dissapointed with the stay overall. now please understand I really do not hold establishments to a very high standarn and am the type of person who is usually happy with most things and can give the benefit of the doubt in most cistumances,
But... the room my self and my partner stayed at was as best adequate but should really be described as very very tired. Huge chunks of bare metal and flaked off paint adorned the radiators, almost all of the fixtures in the bathroom had cracks running the entire length, sink, tiles, flooring. All of the draws in the room where very difficult to open and became stuck very easily. stains could be found all around the walls, the windows didnt open properly and no fan was provided in the room; with no air conditioning it was very difficult to sleep (im not sure if fans where an option from reception as i never asked). screws where literally hanging out of the front door handle, all in all for the money paid the attension to detail and state of the room was quite shocking.
Staff seemed frinedly from what i experiended although we did have two quite long waits at reception to check in and out.
I was also very disapointed with the breakfast, i ordered two vegatarian english breaksfasts to be eaten as room service, i recieved 2 very very dry sasuages, a small tub of beans, half a tomato, a bit of avocado and what i think was a mushroom ? either way its was very very subpar, we never ate it and instead opted to go out for breakfast the next day. Now i know vegatarian breakfasts are a bit harder than th normal english fry up so i will always give the benefit of the doubt but seriously it was worse than a weatherspoons breakfast.
so all in all the location is great but i wont be returning, the out dated and poor room coupled with the poor breakfast just didnt hit the spot unfortunetly.

Booked our evening meals in advance two nights running. I was going to book us in advance at a restaurant in Grasmere on the second night instead of Tweedies, but was put off by them asking for a £20 deposit, the fact that if you cancelled you had to pay the full price of the meals ordered in advance and even if you were 15 mins late you lost your table and had to pay in full! Tweedies didn’t ask for anything like that.
I must admit my first impression of Tweedies inside was that it was a bit rustic/slightly rough around the edges, but it turned out that the food was excellent. The steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it, fresh onion rings not frozen and a fab sauce and chips. I asked for a side of green beans and a huge bowlful arrived (at a hotel we stayed at later in the week there were just four green beans as a vegetable!). On the first night at Tweedies there were four of us and we all loved the food. On the second night there were two of us and we still loved the food. We started with artichoke soup which was really delicious, then I had to have the steak again as was so lovely and hubby had the fish and chips which he said was delicious. The staff are friendly and efficient too. Lovely fire in the bar area too. I shouldn’t have judged a book by its cover....

We visited Grasmere recently as a family but really struggled to find anywhere to accommodate 10 adults and a baby for dinner on the Saturday evening. However, Tweedies Bar was so helpful and totally unfazed by such a large group. Although, they originally said we may have to be on 2 tables, when we arrived they had put one long table so we were able to sit together. They had also given us space for the pram. The menu has a good selection and catered for the vegetarian and vegan in our party. The staff were attentive and chatty and you certainly felt looked after. There was also live music on, which was great but not obtrusive, when you were chatting. We were pleasantly surprised with the bill, considering we all had two courses.Would highly recommend this place, especially for groups.

After choosing lunch from a restricted menu which we understand fully, we waited for our lunch to be served. We soon realised our meals were not served hot, my husband who ordered fish and chips which was served with peas, which were cold and by the time he brought this to a waitress attention and she said how long they would be he asked her not to bother as he would have finished eating the rest of his meal. My meal was gammon that had an ample amount of fat, had to ask for a steak knife as couldn't cut with the knife given, my meal was also warm, not hot. When my husband told the manager, he wasn't the most obliging and when we said about the plates being cold which didn't help the temp of the food, he said with Covid they couldn't serve hot plates due to not using cloths,(surely warm would be better) yet we saw the same person go from accepting people at the door and writing peoples details down to then serving food to then opening a grate putting logs on log burner with the same pair of gloves on. After being asked to use hand sanitiser, I found this very odd and not very hygienic.
The pub allows dogs in which we don't have a problem with, but do not think they should be allowed on the seating and paws on the table, especially in times like this.
The manager reduced the bill slightly after saying he was sorry but they are busy at the moment, to which I replied they should be in the month of July. These establishments have been complaining at being closed for months, but we would not return and would not reccomend it either.

Booked a meal for my family for the 3rd of August in a place that I had always wanted to visit on many visits to the lakes, had a drink in the beer garden prior to going in which was fine and the staff was very friendly and very well organised.
After my drink in the beer garden myself and my family proceeded to the queue to get seated to our table, small guy at the entrance said in front of guests (Can't be dealing with this sh** tonight), once sat down at our table we got to order drinks and then progressed to ordering food but was then told that the till wasn't working so food would be at normal price (no eat out to help out), no prior warning as in price change and when told that we didn't require food he was rude again(These tables are for food only and there are plenty of tables outside for drinks).
By this point the whole experience had been totally destroyed by an employee who obviously shouldn't be in the hospitality industry, guys running the outside thumbs up but guy running the door for food is going to lose the place a lot of money.

The pub was very busy, as it always is over New Year. As ever it seemed to be understaffed (one member of staff appeared to be there just to chat}. When we placed our food order (there were 11 of us} we double checked with the bar man that he had all 11 meals. However, when they came one meal was missing. When we asked about it, the waitress said quite crossly that we hadn't ordered it, and if we wanted another meal we needed to go to the bar and pay for it! Since we had put a credit card behind the bar this seemed unnecessary! Some minutes later she reappeared with the missing meal - but was not apologetic. The meals were OK, but nothing special, and we certainly won't be hurrying back.

Extremely disappointed with the poor service. We ordered 2 pints and it took 30 minutes to get them after asking twice and those arriving after us getting their drinks and lunch 10 minutes prior. I asked for a refund, then magically the drinks arrived. No apology, just excuses that it was busy. Such a shame as the location is very nice

Arrived for lunch today and asked the lady serving if there were any tables in the gazebo “ I can’t see any” was the reply. We found a seat in the beer garden and a server came quickly to take our drinks order. Drinks came out quickly, but all went rapidly down hill from here .. 30 mins later and no one had come to take our food order. Asked the extremely surly waitress if she can take our food order “ my colleague who took your drinks order will take your food order” turns out that it was only him taking orders at lunchtime, on a Sunday, for about 30 tables. 15 more mins passed so I asked another server if he could take our order. This was the reply. “ you have drinks, to be going on with, what more do you want?” Well food to go with them would be nice as we have been here 45 mins. “ Madam we are extremely busy and short staffed, it is not like we are all sat playing candy crush on our phones “ No more needs to be said. We stood up and left. On departing I said to another server. Your staff are very rude. - his reply “ not my concern, I have only just started here “. Unbelievable poor service. We went round the corner to Freda and Roy’s cafe. We had the most amazing fish and chips for a fraction of Tweedies Over inflated prices. Saved myself £50 on lunch and a whole lot of hassle. So rude and they really didn’t care. You think coming out of lock down they would be a little more careful to retain customers.

We booked into Tweedies with high hopes. The humorous sign about lockdown set us up in high spirits and the entire place seemed well organised.
The chap who served us with an iPad strapped to his arm was perhaps one of the most miserable people I have had the displeasure to have been served by. He charged us full price for our soft drinks (eat out to help out) and when I mentioned the scheme he said that they weren't applying it to soft drinks.
We spoke to another guy who answers questions while turning and walking away wondering if anything is going to happen.
The original guy came out and said "We owe you £4.50". No apology, nothing and he turned away.
The food was just about fine but surely they have inflated their prices when the government deal is on? £8.50 for 3 scoops of ICE cream?
Obviously staff training needs reviewing.

My husband and I visited Tweedies for an evening meal on a friday night. We booked a table in advance and we were glad we did as it got very busy. We were seated and served very quickly and fairly attentively. The ambiance is really nice and friendly. We were disappointed to find that a few of the dishes we wanted were not available but we found plenty of other nice things to order. The starters we picked were from the specials board, I had the pork bon bon which was lovely and my husband had the pigeon with risotto. The risotto was fantastic the pigeon was a little overcooked but still very tasty. Portions not huge considering they were over £8 each, but we were pleased with them. My husband picked the aubergine and halloumi lasagne which he enjoyed and I had the rabbit saddle. Mine tasted great but there was strangely almost too much meat compared to the sauce and accompaniments. I don't think mine came with the stuffing which would have lightened the dish a little. Again very tasty but at over £20 I was expecting to be more impressed. We decided to share the cheese board instead of a dessert. Individually each cheese was wonderful particularly the cheese of the week but the portions of cheese were tiny. There was far more chutney than cheese and it was supposed to come with bread which ours didn't. The quality of ingredients was excellent but for £8.50 a bit more cheese would have been nice. The blue cheese portion didnt make a full cracker once the rind was removed. We have visited tweedies many times and have always loved it but was rather underwhelmed this time.

Thank you for taking the time to review us and I am sorry to hear that we didn’t live up to your expectations on this occasion. The last few weeks have been incredibly busy for us and there have been times when we have sold out of certain dishes. I have also passed your comments regarding portion sizes onto the head chef and he will look into this. I hope this hasn’t put you and your husband off from giving us another chance next time you visit Grasmere.

Heard good things about Tweedies so, booked a table well in advance of our weekend break as I did for other places to eat. I know times are strange but, rude from the word go, 6foot 6 rude guy at the door, said he'd rung me but got no reply and emailed to say "you only have 90mins to eat" things have changed, nope? I'd not recieved either, then proceeded to sit us 3ft from a roaring fire. Food tasteless and expensive, beer was crap "to be blunt" and again expensive, would I go here again NO and wouldn't recommend it at all, CO-OP just round the corner you'd honestly be better with a pre packed sandwich, some crisps and a bottle of wine in your room.

This is the 4th time visiting this pub and the 2nd for food however this time the service was lacking. Ordered food at 3pm and was told there was no roast dinners left. This is shocking for 3pm on a Sunday- I was told they didn’t expect it to be as busy, it was much busier last time! However we ordered food and only 2 meals arrived, we had eaten 75% of ours awkwardly before our friends arrived. To add icing to the cake a large group of people sat down 30 mins after our food order and were offered roast dinners! Poor service today has let the overall experience down and I’d maybe not return. Food was great may I add

We always head to Tweedies on our first night in Grasmere and have always had a great meal. Unfortunately not so this time.
While the staff were as friendly as usual it was completely let down by the reduced menu they were running. Barely anything for those needing gluten free options, and the rest of the menu wasn't that appealing.
You can tell when a menu isn't great when about 75% off the food being brought it was the burger.
We'll go again, but not until they're back to the normal great menu.

We were part of a 2 family group ordering 4 dishes and expected a few teething problems having just opened after Lockdown however having to wait 1 hour 15 minutes for you food was very poor. It’s okay if your staying locally you can have a couple of drinks but we were visiting from the Northern Lakes and car parking became a concern.
It was hard to tell if Staff were oblivious to the excessive time taken to get food out to customers across the gardens or if the business just didn’t car - not all the tables were taken so you couldn’t say they were busy,
Food when it arrived (without apology for the deadly - hopefully this isn’t the new norm) was at least piping hot and tasty however such a wait does take the edge off your appetite.

Enjoyed our second dinner out since Lockdown. We opted to sit inside but if weather is good this place has a huge outdoor space with naturally socially distanced tables, some of which are now under a temporarily erected marquee.
Some nice menu options. The tandoori spiced duck breast with sag aloo and lentils was very good. Sticky toffee pudding was also good although portion wasn't overly generous and the actual pudding a little dry. Prices, however, are on the high side: The duck dish was around £18 and the wine was ridicously expensive at £27 for a regular bottle.
Service was friendly albeit a little on the slow side.
