Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Friendly and accommodating, especially as we dropped in without a reservation and with two dogs. Lovely atmosphere with real fires and a great Sunday roast - the veg in particular was well above the average and not a bad price. Will definitely return the next...time we are in the lakes.More

Both service and food were excellent. Well above what would expect from a pub. The steak and kidney pudding was truly to die for, a real suet pudding stuffed with plenty of meat, sitting on a bed of mash, accompanied with peas and a delicious...rich dark gravy! You won’t have room for a dessert if you choose this main course! Excellent value for money as well. Brilliant.More

We went to the Travellers Rest this evening for a meal. What a wonderful find. Greeted immediately with a warm smile and welcome. Taken to dining room, coats hung up. The staff are fantastic. So friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. I had rib...eye steak. The best in a long time. My partner had the venison burger. Again, great. The staff were brilliant. I can't fault them. In fact, we have booked for tomorrow. Very highly recommended.More

Lovely old pub that does a lot more than just hearty pub grub. The lamb with potatoes Anna was perfectly cooked and delicious. The steak and kidney puddings were certainly hearty but also well flavoured and beautifully presented. The sticky toffee pudding was light and...delicious and the thunder and lightening ice cream a joy. Friendly, prompt and obliging service. We had a lovely evening.More

Very nice restaurant and very good prices! Staff very accommodating and on a busy bank holiday weekend, found a table for 8 of us...We'd already tried about another 8 restaurants nearby in keswick, Ambleside and windermere!! Food was good approx £16 per main course, the...Sunday lunch options were baked ham/gammon; pork and beef, all were served with roast potatoes, mashed carrot/swede, roast parsnip, green beans and broccoli and the obligatory Yorkshire pudding! A really nice gesture, was cauliflower cheese in separate bowls between 2 people!! Very scrummy! Would definitely recommend a stop off, also amazing views!! Would also like to thank the manager, replying to an enquiry, as my husband had misplaced his sunglasses, so we realised next day and thought we'd check with the Travellers Rest, in case he'd left them there...the next day the manager called to say, they had looked around but they couldn't find anything - luckily we'd located them by then - but very professional to call us and let us know!More
