We visited on a trip to the village, it was nice to find a spot tha wasn’t closing early like Everyone else! It was friendly and welcoming. It’s was perfectly cozy and provided a well needed comfy sit down. We opted for drinks and cake,...coffee was very good, tea was perfect and they hold an impressive selection. The cakes were some of the best from our week away! Carrot cake and indeed the crumpets are a must!!More

Visited for coffee and saw some tables were reserved and that there was lamb casserole with dumplings on the special board however had just eaten elsewhere. Rang the next day and reserved a table and mentioned that I would be having the lamb. When we...arrived the lamb was not on the board however I was informed they had kept a portion back for me and it was amazing a was my wife's quiche. 2 meals 2 beers glass of wine cream scone and latte all four less than £50. The service and quality of food was excellent and we will be back.More

Nice clean cafe with friendly staff. My hubby enjoyed his gluten free plum and blueberry cake baked by Jo. I had a blueberry scone which was tasty too. We definitely be back again. The cake was so good I had to order some to take...away.More

Visited twice during our stay, once for breakfast and once for afternoon tea. Food was lovely, particularly afternoon tea. Staff very friendly and the setting was very quaint and well suited to the area. The scone with the afternoon tea was lemon & blueberry flavour,...and served warm. Delicious.More

Such a good experience in this cosy cafe. Very friendly staff and the lemon and blueberry scones were ten out of ten! Also a delicious range of home made cakes.

We've not been to Hawkshead in ages. We decided to come today to mainly avoid the queue at Sarah Nelsons in Grasmere. We found this lovely little tea room by chance. We were going to sit outside but there were a lot of wasps and...I'm terrified of them. We went inside and asked if they had a table for two. The girl behind the counter wad lovely and very helpful as to where my husband could put his mobility scooter. We ordered a coke and a flat white. Hubby loves his coffee and he said this one was fab. Ice cold glass out of the freezer for my coke, reminded me of holidays in Greece. Hubby had a sausage and bacon bap, and I had soup and cheese scone. Lots of Cumberland sausage and bacon and sauces were offered, Hubby selected ketchup. Soup was fabulous, Parsnip Carrot and Cumin, and the cheese scone came warm and it was delicious. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. We'd definitely recommend if you're on the area. PS if you're tall, you'll need to duck to avoid the original beamsMore

We went for lunch before a walk and it was perfect! I had the quiche which was delicious and my husband had a baked potato with BBQ pork which he loved! Fantastic choice of teas as well - we tried apple & cinnamon and liquorice...and both were lovely. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Happily recommend.More

The customer service here is shocking. I don’t actually think they want anyone in there. We arrived on a very rainy day and took the last table for two. We then sat and witnessed other customers arriving to be told very rudely that they were...full, the staff were not pleasant to anyone as it appeared they couldn’t cope with the endless customers. We placed our order, 2 coffees and one cake to which the waitress, quite abruptly, asked my husband if he was having a cake (if he was we would have ordered it). The staff clearly couldn’t cope with a full house, the cafe is only small with maybe 8/10 tables. Quite comically, once it had calmed down and they had 2/3 empty tables, they had a personality lift and were pleasant. Too late!More

This will probably be taken down by the Tripadsior police but here goes anyway. An awful customer service expereince. I never even finished my order before realising i had made a grave error of judgement in entering this establishment. I turned on my heel and...voted with my feet as anyone else should do unless you relish bad manners, rudeness and zero customer service.More

This historic cosy cafe is small but gives you a big welcome. The menu is excellent and the service very friendly. Even though the number of inside tables is limited, they managed to find space for six of us.

Popped in for lunch as a party of 6 with 3 children. Immediately we were greeted by a rude member of staff who was huffing and puffing at our mere presence, we then sat down at the table and the rest of our party came...to join us which was met with more bad attitude. Our party was obviously too much for one of the female members of staff in particular because she angrily told us that “although you may have got yourselves seated it doesn’t mean to say that I will serve you” . When we all decided that we didn’t want to put up with that attitude all staff doubled down on their disgraceful and unwelcoming attitude. We were told we shouldn’t have sat down, and that we would not be served hot drinks over children. If we were told this on arrival politely we could’ve sat outside. We were argued with by another member of staff behind the till until we were actually backed up by another customer who agreed the original member of staff was very rude. We immediately left followed by other diners who could not believe the way we were spoken to. Considering previous reviews on this place about rude staff members, I seriously think you should look at the people you employ to represent your business, as this was disgraceful. We went around the corner to poppi red where we had excellent food and excellent customer service .More
