The Castle Dairy is the oldest continuously used building in Kendal and sits on a part of the Roman Road through the town. It forms the floor of one of the rooms. My wife and I went today to celebrate our wedding anniversary. A Taster Menu during the middle of the day was up to the best standards of Michelin... More

We had a very mixed experience at Castle Dairy, with some food being excellent and some poor, and the service friendly and willing but rather hit and miss. We wondered if front of house was understaffed but couldn't tell how busy the resaurant was as we were seated in the area just inside the door, which only has 3 tables.... More

On 6 March 2014 I made a reservation by the internet site facility for dinner for two on Saturday 10 May; this was an important occasion and early booking was essential. The restaurant was closed for alterations at this time but I received an electronic acknowledgement. Following internet site instructions I telephoned the restaurant on 28 March to confirm my... We accept full responsibility and apologise sincerely for the problems you encountered. In May, due to the renovations at the Castle Dairy, our usual meticulous systems were not as robust as they should have been, but this is no excuse. This is not the experience we want to give to our customers and is certainly not reflective of the usual... More

As you probably know, all the staff here apart I think from the head chef and maitre d' are students, but don't let that put you off, this place is fabulous. Fine dining and a decent wine list at reasonable prices. I love the place, the only problem is it's getting harder to reserve a table as it's becoming so... More

Last visit was 15 years ago due to various change of hands, being closed etc, but visited in March for my wife's birthday. What a fantastic experience. Food was delicious, well presented and each course explained/described. Service was a little hit and miss but we can forgive this as they are students learning their trade, but they worked hard and... More

I visited 18 months ago and was impressed. Had the chance to visit again today, and had a fabulous lunch with my mother and her sister. Firstly, there is no big room. The restaurant is situated in a historical listed building with lots of little rooms. We had a room to ourselves, surrounded by antiques. The staff are enthusiastic and... More

This was our last night whilst walking the Dales Way. We'd been eating in pubs along the way, many of which were very good, but it was a real treat to go to the Castle Dairy. First, it was a great 14th century building and well worth a look around. Second, the food is very good. Not absolutely outstanding -... More

We made a last minute booking on a Thursday night. We were given an option on times with no problem. We opted for a la carte and had three excellent courses, starters of mackerel and local ham and egg were superb. Main course was chicken with wild garlic for both of us. While this was probably the best meal I've... More

We opted for the Tasting menu - one for vegetarians and one for omnivores - both were absolutely fabulous. Each course was a delight both for the eyes and the taste buds. As a vegetarian it was wonderful to have imaginative and delicious food produced and served by people who are proud of what they do. In the evenings it... More
