City prices...and a city menu. Good if you have friends visiting who expect this. But for a local treat it is comparably expensive for an egg on toast! Saying that the attention to detail with the china and the nice selection of teas is lovely.
If you're hungry, there are other places witha wider range of better value (chips covered in a bit of sauce is about £6) However if you want a pizza these are delicious and good value.
Its a popular coffee and people watching place in kendal. So if you're a solo traveller its a nice place to go.
The real highlight are rhe fact they use flannels to dry your hands on and then wash them every day. Genius. Award for eco friendliness there!
Overrall if you have out of towner city friend visiting they'll love it. If you're watching the pennies maybe not the best place to go.

Called in just for a hot drink on a showering Sunday. We were greeted with a smile and a drinks order was quickly taken. A good quantity of delicious tea was served. The waitress suggested splitting a milk shake between the children which saved a couple of quid. We decided to make a good order. The pancakes went down well with mother and Poppy P. The creamy porridge was certainly creamy and went down well with the boy. I had the breakfast burrito and was certainly not disappointed. I can see why it's a favourite it was epic. I wouldn't hesitate to call here again if I was in the area. The whole the lot was great value.

I have visited regularly for years. Called in post Covid last week. Of course it has changed to meet the necessary guidelines, but it seem also to have lost some of its attraction with the new owners and staff. The scones are a pale imitation of what they used to be and the service is a fair bit slower. Also it has far too many dogs which are encouraged by free dog biscuits- does the proprietor hand wash after fussing the dogs-I don't know. For me it has lost a star- but I will keep visiting in the hope that it will recover.

Dear ChestnutsWay
Thank you for taking the time again to review Brew Brothers. We are encouraged by the fact that we have gained a star since your previous review in December last year.
Post Covid lockdown, we have had an overwhelmingly positive response to the food, service and shop revamp. As per my last reply to you, I would really like the opportunity to meet in person so as to better understand what it is that is now so unattractive.
Your latest review saw us gain a point in food but lose 2 points on service. This is most definitely not something any business owner wants to see. Post Covid has been an awkward time having to adapt to many new processes with things like table service for example. I guess the immediate solution would be get more staff, which increases costs, but at the same time the guide lines for social distancing have forced us to lose 12 % of our seating capacity. So, it is a juggling act, which we feel we have tackled well and we strive to improve every day.
Having said that, I think it would be important for me to know when exactly you were in the shop. If it happened to be a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday in August, then I would not be surprised if the service was a bit slow. We have been swamped on these days and even with extra staff, the sheer volume of customers wanting to benefit from the Eat Out to Help Out scheme caused unavoidable delays.
Yes – we love dogs at Brew Brothers, they are by far our very best and happiest customers. I do enjoy fussing over the dogs, but would like to assure you I am keenly aware on my actions around this and make sure I sanitise my hands every single time after doing this – even before Covid existed. This is a process any staff member has to follow, given the fact we have always encouraged dogs in the shop.
Looking forward to meeting you.

We went to the cafe last Monday. We were there at opening time, 8am. There was one female staff member on her own who was clearly not ready for opening on time (customers waiting to be served, take away customers too) but the tills weren’t set up with money and the staff member was clearly flustered. At 8:20, the take away customers were served, while the sit down customers were still left to wait for the girl to take their orders, when she eventually arrived at the table, she apologised for our wait and took our order. We have been coming in for breakfast for many years and we order a bespoke vegetarian breakfast. On this occasion, she told us that we weren’t allowed to do that any more. That would have been fine, if her manner and tone were conducive to a polite response. After some time, while she argued and glared and huffed, she agreed to our usual order. When my husband’s breakfast tea arrived he told the girl that the tea tasted wrong and was not breakfast tea. She got annoyed, argued again, tutted and walked off. When she was at our table again, I then told her that the tea was not a traditional breakfast tea and asked her to smell it. She had a mini rage, removed the tea from the table, said there would be no charge, and arrived back with a Yorkshire tea bag. The whole experience was surreal: not what we patronise the place for. We were still talking about our disappointment long after we had returned home. Perhaps the member of staff in question should see a bigger picture: we come a 50 mile round trip and pay £1 car park in order to come and enjoy our breakfast at Brew Brothers. We have done this since Tony started the cafe and have always sung the praises of the establishment. We now, however, feel in agreement with other people’s comments: things are not what they used to be. We acknowledge that the staff member should not have been left on her own to open up with all she had to do, but nothing excuses rudeness and impatience. Can I add that the staff member knows us as regular customers. Her behaviour was quite shocking. We will, however, still come for breakfast next week in the hope that this was a one-off.

This was a regular little brunch gem as part of our regular trips to Kendal but it seems to have deteriorated now. The Chicken Salad was pretty poor at £8.50 with half a dozen thin, dry strips of chicken bulked up with lots of greens. Eating at the table near the toilets with a thin door that opens out into the restaurant is none too pleasant. Barking dogs in a small restaurant wasn't great either. Good coffee though.

HI James
Thank you for taking the time to review BrewBrothers. I am sorry you did not enjoy the chicken salad. Had you brought this to our attention – we would have immediately either rectified your meal or offered you something else. We never want a customer to walk away disappointed.
From your comments it seems you have been here before. I took over as the new owner towards the end of September 2019 - since then we have made some much-needed cosmetic changes but certainly nothing structural - so the setup and the toilet position is exactly that same as it always has been.
Yes - we love dogs at Brew Brothers and occasionally there may be some debate between the dogs but this is rare.
We would love the opportunity to welcome you to Brew Brothers again.
Thank you
Brad

Brew Brothers is a fantastic café with wonderful, helpful staff that are always polite and cheerful. The food is fantastic for anything from full meals to quick snacks, with vegetarian/vegan options that all taste as fresh as can be, with high quality ingredients. They also have foods that fussy kids would like so don’t be afraid to bring them along too!
They also have a wide variety of drinks available, both hot and cold, including seasonal specials such as gingerbread hot chocolates or mulled wine. I have been with family, with friends, and with my partner and the atmosphere is always welcoming and relaxing. Even down to their COVID restrictions, they are mindful of other’s needs such as allowing people who are unable to wear masks to instead wear visors which is very considerate. They also humorously put sheep teddies on the chairs that are marked ‘not for use’ by customers, for social distancing purposes, which is a much nicer reminder than other places that either put signs on the chairs or simply remove them making the place feel empty. I could not fault Brew Brothers if I tried, and will always recommend it to anyone asking where to go in Kendal. 5/5

Went in for an early morning brew & enjoyed the lovely atmosphere... especially the guest Sheep at their tables helping to keep us CoV safe. Had a black coffee .... which I found very small !! Not much gluten free choice on the menu ... only Sweet potato cakes with avocado, whipped feta & poached eggs. There were baked potatoes available on the blackboard specials. Cutlery comes wrapped in individual paper bags which is a nice touch.

I really cannot understand why people rate this cafe so highly. The portions are small especially if you order a drink and you dine in cramped surroundings with no privacy and I know of 1 restaurant within 200 yards of this restaurant that not only beats their eggs benedict hands down but you get double the amount for the same money. Seems bonkers to me oh and by the way if you want to compare the dishes mentioned then try eggs benedict from brew brothers then go to Booths supermarket cafe in Kendal and order the same dish and then tell me that Brew Brothers are worth visiting!,!,

I have visited brew brothers many times over the last few years but recently I have noticed a steady decline in the food and service. Our last visit was that bad we actually walked out, which is something that I never do.
We arrived and we were asked to sit by a member of staff that was behind the counter. Due to new Covid guidelines, we waited at the table to be served. Whilst waiting other people arrived and were served. We watched other people’s food arrive and get sent back. After 25 minutes, we gave up and left. Staff made no attempt to apologise and to be honestly I don’t think I would return as on the occasion prior to this my breakfast got sent back as they served uncooked halloumi cheese.

Dear Mrs Nobody
Thank you for taking the time to review Brew Brothers - we welcome all feedback good and bad.
Firstly - let me apologise your disappointing experience. We aim at creating the best customer experience we can and on this occasion we have failed.
I would like to know when exactly you were in the shop so that we can identify the staff that were on duty so we can impress on them the need to ensure that all our customers are priority and that they leave happy.
From the time stamp on your review I suspect you did visit us in the last month - August has been a crazy month, not just for Brew Brothers but for everybody in the restaurant and related industries. We had a lot of things to get used to and a lot of not normal situations which I think we dealt with quite well.
Please can I ask you at least allow us the opportunity to regain your confidence in Brew Brothers. When you next around town please pop in and ask for Sara or myself and we will make sure you get the BB experience you have been accustom to receiving.
Thank you again for your time
Brad

Queued outside for a table, once seated, discovered it was a very limited menu - but both chose a panini and sweet potato fries (£10 each). My partners panini came wrong and had to wait to the correct meal to be brought out. In the mean time, my meal went cold. What came out was disappointing and certainly not worth what we paid.
I understand that there are staff shortages, and businesses are getting back on their feet after a very challenging time, but the food was a let down.

We popped into Brew Brothers at around 4 o’clock one Saturday afternoon after roaming around Kendal.
Due to the lateness of the hour, we were able to easily procure a socially distanced table for four.
I had a splendid pot of their house breakfast tea and Eggs Benedict
with Parma Ham. This was also good, although the Parma
Ham seemed more like bacon to me.
Service was good and the cost for four was about £35.

Lovely place, Open in early January when most others were shut, we were so glad as we had a good breakfast, one gluten free. The breakfasts may cost a little more but we noticed quality ingredients and was worth it. Nice to have a choice of teas. Staff were friendly

We visited again for coffee and lunch and were very happy. The seating is controlled and you're only offered a table if there is space.
The coffee is up to usual high standard; I was particularly impressed with the Spicy Rubin sandwich. The bread was fresh before toasting, not mass produced, and the filling was memorably nice.

Great to be back. The pukka Farrers Coffee is better than ever and now served in quality Farrer cups and saucers. Thai fish wrap and Spicy Halloumi wrap were qualiteeee and the chips were perfection. Initial service a little slow (but hiring!) but worth waiting for at the new street facing bench with useful shelf. Be even better when the charging points are connected.

Brew Brothers is an absolutely amazing establishment with incredible food. We visited twice for breakfast during our 3 days in Kendal and the food something heavenly on both occasions (American pancakes with bacon and a classic Benedict). The staff were very accommodating to our 10 month and helping make something specific for her to eat. All in all a great place that is highly recommended for the food, staff, location and coffee.
