My wife booked Lakeland Spice for my Birthday during a short ‘staycation’ in the Lakes.
This restaurant needs a refurb and looks rather tired. Also, the roaring trade they were doing in take-aways during our visit was both distracting for us as diners and also compromised the restaurant service. We waited well over an hour for our food to arrive while other diners who had arrived after us were served first. This is poor service, pure and simple and is really irritating. The more so as we had paid for two hours in one of Keswick’s very expensive car parks thinking this would allow ample time for a main course only. The late arrival of our dinner was an unwanted stressor.
As for the food, average, unremarkable with a slightly old-fashioned Indian feel are thoughts that spring to mind, it certainly wasn’t worth waiting for.

Had a very nice meal, family of 4 with 2 children (10 & 8).
Menu was very traditional for an English curry house, we had poppadoms with normal sauces very nice, mains were chicken tikka masala, I had the buna masala. Rice was mushroom and a vegetable with bombay aloo. Food was very nice, hot and a good full flavour, bear in mind were not curry experts.
The staff were friendly and polite, we did ask for two cokes to be changed as they tasted flat, which they did and the replacements were much better.
Would eat here again, clean and tidy with a nice feel.
Price was competitive.

10% saving because we had takeaway, for four people was £74, we eat Indian food a lot and pay on average about £55, so on the expensive side. Had onion bhajis only got two in the portion so not a big portion. Sheik kebab was spicy and very tasty. Pickle tray for kebabs tubs barely half full.
Main meals, lovely flavours but if your use to hot and spicy you’ll need to ask them to spice it up as mine was medium but would say mild in strength.

Stayed in Keswick for a few days we fancied an Indian curry only 2 places to choose from, we picked the wrong one, the place was empty when we walked in other than a drunken woman ordering a takeaway. We ordered 2 poppadoms chutney tray 1 mixed starter and 2 main meals plus 2 pints of lager. Cost £57 The food was the worst I've ever had at an Indian restaurant ever chutney tray was was pathetic.Sorry couldn't ever recommend this place to my worst enemy So people visiting Keswick beware keep away you'll be very very disappointed

No empathy with and no interest in customers. Totally mechanistic with really really bad service. While the food is okay it was very, very late, and served w/o cutlery for main course. We waited 30 mins for starters and 30 more minutes for mains. The main courses were served at a time interval so one of us started, so the food did not go cold. The place had quite a few empty tables and will be empty of us from now on Avoid this unpleasant joke of a restaurant.

Went to this restaurant on New Years Eve 2019 and the whole experience was a massive let down. Booked the restaurant months ago and found we were put behind the door for the stairs. When requested to be moved they said we could move upstairs. We found there was no heating turned on and it was freezing. Upon request heating was turned on. There was just not enough staff working on the evening to cope with the demand. However, they still kept letting more people in who had not booked for the evening even though they could not cope. We ordered a diet cola each, poppadoms, a starter and a main meal. The cola was flat, we never received he poppadoms. The starters arrived and we informed them we hadnt received he poppadoms and all they said was we will take it off the bill. They then promptly brought the pickles to go with the poppadoms even though we hadnt received them. The starters were over greasy so could not eat them. The main dishes were tasteless. I also found a long hair in my food. We did voice our real disappointment and to be honest they were not really interested it was more about getting the people through the door and making money. When I mentioned the hair in my food the waiter asked sarcastically was it long or short. I informed him it was long knowing fine well his answer would be we do not have anyone in the kitchen with long hair. An absolute disgrace. It has been a little while since I have been to this restaurant and was surprised at how dirty the carpets etc are. They offered to take some money off the bill but they either couldnt count or think we couldnt because all they took off the bill was the food that never arrived. I did not want to ruin my evening any more than it was so we left. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

We are staying in Keswick for the week, so went here tonight ( 5th July 2022 ) to get a takeaway as we wanted a nice curry.
We ordered a Chicken Tikka Madras with Boiled Rice and Chips as well as Chicken Balti with Plain Naan - it came to £33 and as they were very busy, we had to wait 45 minutes so we went back to our cottage which was only 10 minutes away.
My Husband went down after 35 minutes and it was ready for him on arrival.
We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals - the pieces of chicken were huge and there was a lot, the rice was plentiful and the chips were to die for and was so tasty - there was so much we both left just under half so will finish it off tomorrow !
We will most definitely go back there again before we go home on Saturday.

From the minute we arrived at the restaurant the service was fantastic . The service was quick , helpful and the waiters always checking to make sure they could respond quickly if we needed anything without being overbearing.
The starters of salmon tikka , prawn poori and spiced pompadoms with a mixed pickle tray were delicious.
The mains which were made up of an achari , chicken and. Mushroom balti and chicken tandoori shalslick were all delicious with mushroom rice, pilau rice and plain Nan sides were all delicious- it was easily our best meal in our three night stay in Keswick .

Horrendous from start to finish. We popped our head in on Monday night to book for the following night to be told they only had a table available for 8:30pm which was weird as no one was in on the night when we booked. It was my meant to be my friends special 30th birthday meal but it turned into a horror show. Upon arrival the man behind the bar looked confused when we gave our name and said we had a table booked for 3. Poppadom and pickle tray starter came which we couldn’t fault. When our main arrived that’s when disaster struck. One friend ordered Balti and another ordered Madras somehow the waiter managed to put them down the correct way then swapped them over. The friend who ordered chicken balti head exploded when he tasted the madras and had to down his pint of flat Cobra beer to stop his mouth being like the back of Batman’s car. The waiter never even apologised for his mistake and simply tried to say he put them down the right way. After all the drama we swapped the plates and ate the curry with the wrong rices then subsequently had the bill pushed in front our faces without asking if we wanted another drink/desert. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Avoid!! I’m not one to complain about food but for the price it was really poor. I’d avoid going there!
Food took ages to come and when the mains came they were below even a takeaway standard. Chewy rubbery meats and very sweet sauces, it was like a dessert! Poor service and poor food has put a downer on our day in the Lakes! Surprising for a resturant who’s been open for 25 years…

We arrived and told the waiter that I had booked on line, to be told by the waiter that they did not take online bookings, although I had confirmed it earlier that day. We were asked to take a seat at the front of the restaurant and were then shown to a table a short time later, the table was situated at the back of the restaurant, were I could see the chief smoking ( hope he washed his hands afterwards ) , a draft from the back door and with the toilets situated to the right of our table. The service was ok and the food was ok, however my husbands chicken chilli masala was tame and lacked heat and the Nan breads were small and below par. When we asked for our bill at the end of our meal we were informed that the card machine was not working and that we would have to pay our bill of £105.00 in cash and pointed in the direction of the nearest cash machine. I would have appreciated having been informed that I needed to pay cash before I ordered. What would have happened if the local cash machines were not working? ? ? Don’t think I will be returning, this is not the only Indian restaurant in this area.

What can I say……..
We arrived on time for our reservation only to be sent away and told to come back later.
When we were finally seated it was right by the toilets and smokers yard. We had people constantly traipsing past our table for either a smoke or toilet stop, including some very large groups.
Poppadoms and pickle tray was very disappointing, two overly sweet tiny pots of pickles and a limp pot of onions. After waiting over 50 minutes for our starters we gave up and left.
The truly awful thing about our experience was the fact that the waiters knew we weren’t happy and not once did they ask if there was anything we needed.
As visitors to Keswick we were very disappointed and would not recommend this place at all.

This restaurant is booking diners and takeaways way beyond the kitchen's ability to deliver. We dined in, and it took over an hour for our food to arrive after we ordered. Getting the bill and paying took 20 minutes and some chasing. It's a shame: the food is good (though pricey)

Service was great, very welcoming and clearly take pride in their restaurant. We booked late for a 10pm meal that was well needed abs we were not disappointed.
As seasoned curry eaters my son and I thought the food here was excellent, well above average. Two different curries which tasted fresh and not just thrown together from the same base sauce. The waiter took the trouble to suggest we tweaked our order based on what he thought would be best, and it was delicious. Nice to see someone taking that kind of pride in their offering. The whole team appeared happy and seemed to all be working together well and enjoying their restaurant.
Will visit again every time we come to Keswick.
Top drawer!
