Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The bank tavern has always been a good pub for food and drink I’ve been going for the last 30 years and no change….. until now. Food has gone down hill the prices have gone up hill and the barmaid/waitress should be in a wrestling ring miserable and grumpy and always is. She needs a fresh job away from the public. Definitely a chip on her shoulder maybe a frozen one !?

Great old fashioned pub with all the charm you'd expect.
We both opted for baguettes. One filled with ham and mustard, and the other a tuna and cheese melt, both arrived with good quality chips and a fresh side salad. We thought they were just the job.
Loads of areas with different seating but we were lucky enough to grab a window seat. Just great.
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here and at under £28 quite good value with 2 drinks included also in that.

A really lovely traditional tavern with a very warm welcome. We visited for dinner and although a table was not immediately available, the waitress moved a couple of tables to accommodate six of us with our dog too. She joked with our teen lads and made us feel very welcome. There was a great selection of food on the menu and each of our dishes were good quality, very tasty and homemade, the steak pie was delicious and it came with fresh veg too! So many places falsely claim their food is ‘homemade’ but this really was.

I’ve reviewed the Bank Tavern before and given it top marks. This time, however, it was poor.
We holiday in Keswick twice a year and always visit the Bank Tavern at least once in the week. I always order the Lamb &Mint pie - it is superb.
This time both my wife and I ordered it, the pie itself was up to its usual very high standard and the portion was adequate. However - we both noticed the plates were smaller than in the past and to accompany the pie I received exactly 15 chips, one small piece of broccoli and about a dessert spoon of peas. My wife got slightly more - 4 small boiled potatoes, 2 small pieces of broccoli and about the same amount of peas.
We commented that the portions were, at best, much smaller than previously, even though the taste was good.
It cost me over £50 for the 2 mains, a single Brie starter, a pint of beer and a gin&tonic. Very poor value.
On the way out we couldn’t help noticing what other people, were eating - someone was eating the same as us and had a fair pile of chips and a small mountain of veg - plenty of carrots, several pieces of broccoli and plenty of peas. We felt cheated.
To be honest we have experienced varying measures of veg in past, but had never been disappointed with our own.
I can only imagine we got the tail end of a batch - but for the prices charged it was taking the mick - £7.95 for a modest starter, £14.95 for each main - it was very, very poor value.
Extremely disappointing. I’ll take my £50 elsewhere in future,

Our go to pub as the food in the past has been very good . Can’t say that for yesterday’s visit . Steak pies were very dry and soggy pastry served with soggy veg. Roast dinners really underwhelming. Two of the smallest roast potatoes I have ever seen. Hidden under a pile of gravy was a very small portion of veg and a pile of dry cold mash potatoes . Pork cracking had been deep fried so was quite nasty . Really disappointing so won’t be returning.

Been going to the bank tavern for years,
Sadly we’ve noticed the quantity you get on your plate nowadays isn’t as much as it used to be, even though the prices have shot up over the last 3 years.
Had the lamb in mint pie, asked for not the corner piece, what did we get.?
Corner piece.
More pastry than filling, when asked for extra gravy , was told I’m busy I’ll try in get back to you.
We did get it though.
To soak into the pastry.
Sorry we won’t be back .

Located at one end of Keswick's main shopping drag, this place doesn't take bookings. If you see a table, just grab it, then order food and drinks at the bar and wait for food to arrive at your table.
At 18:15 on a Saturday evening, we got a table in less than 5 minutes.
Good selection of standard menu items and specials, all familiar pub standards. Vegetable lasagna and baked salmon both excellent. Total bill for food and 1 drink/person: 42 pounds.
Dogs allowed in about half of the restaurant.

I like the Bank Tavern, a nice little town pub. Old in feel, but not stuck in time, quaint, unassuming. But very straightforward.
Visited twice this week, second time included food. Two baguettes and some children's meals, all enjoyed by the family. I had the brisket beef and onion baguette with chips and salad. Tender, tasty beef was really nice. £8.95 if I remember , overall 8.2. Service was fine and food came quickly.
A quick review, easy and simple like the pub. The menu had some higher end dishes around £15-£20. Highly recommend

Ordered gluten free fish and chips and then informed that there was no separate fryer, so why say it's gluten free when it isn't. I had been in a couple of days ago and was so looking forward to having gluten free fish and chips today. Feeling very disappointed 😞

So where ro start...
One person ordered battered fish. Very nice.
One person ordered A braised feather blade of beef.
Also very good.
Unfortunately for the two who ordered turkey it really was awful.
The veg was totally uncooked. The mash potato was not at all nice and cold. The roast potatoes had not been roasted. The Turkey had been microwaved. It was dried out on the out side of the slices.
Pigs in blankets not roasted properly either.
Disgusting considering it cost £15.95 each.
Our dog got the turkey and pigs in blankets.
Not good. If the cook isn't able to make a roast turkey dinner then please take it off the menu as we are all feeling the pinch and to waste money in that way is terrible.
We had to go to a cafe to eat after spending money on a dinner that was not edible.
Feeling ripped off and angry.
I did mention how bad the meal was to a waitress but no refund was offered...

We came here last year and the food was very good. Last night we had the same meals and they were atrocious. I had gammon and it was really chewy. The onion rings were bought in rubbish and the chips sucked the moisture out of your tongue.
My wife had steak pie. Dried up and cold.
Beer was not good.

The ale was very good but unfortunately t by e food was overpriced and poor. In fact, my friends dish was not fully cooked, after sending it back to be reheated, it was served with the comment, it could be cold because you are not eating fast enough.
Not right!

Found this pub in central Keswick doing Sunday lunches after a long day hiking in the lakes but wish we hadn’t even went. Expected good food after being told the wait was worth it but when the food arrived the lamb was so tough I couldn’t even cut it. Mentioned it to the staff to be told by them and the chef to use a sharper knife, it was inedible. The food was all homemade according to the staff but my friend bit into his pudding to find something hard. The staff came across to investigate and come back and said hard lines it’s just a nut it’s from a bad batch of deliveries (thought everything was homemade??) good job no one had a nut allergy!!

Sunday 10 November - dinner for four just after 8pm.
We had actually booked for elsewhere but there was a problem with that booking so we walked into The Bsnk and received a really warm welcome and had a lovely meal (I had a delicious fish dish)
The lady that served us was so friendly and helpful . Thank you so much. We don’t live locally but when we return to the area we will definitely drop in again. We will also recommend highly to our Cumbrian family.

Very disappointed, the menu at the pub is different to the one on the website and the menu in the pub is more expensive than the one advertised.
We both had the lamb shoulder which was on the specials board. They arrived, without a word or a smile, very quickly and looked enormous but very appetising.
We tucked into them, very tasty! However as we ate passed the surface of the meat it got cooler with it being cold near the bone.
We didn’t finish them, the half empty plates collected, again, quickly systematically rather than in a friendly way.
