When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The restaurant was truly outstanding! We had the duck and the burger. Perfectly cooked to our request. Service was outstanding from the moment we arrived (without a reservation!). Everything was just perfect. We even paid double for the service charge - it was seriously great!

Myself and my husband went here on the 28th of January for Sunday lunch, the restaurant area was quite and we were seated in the corner by a window, we were given the menu to look at and told what the soup of the day...was it was supposed to have been roasted pepper and tomato soup, they waitress left us to look through the menu, which didn't really have much to choice from, so we decided to try the soup as our starter and have the roast dinner which was £30 each for the dinner (so you would expect it to be decent), after about 10 minutes or so they eventually came for our drinks order, which was a medium white wine with lemonade and half a coke, we then ordered our meal, we had another 30 minutes or so wait before our soup arrived which was blend in taste my husband had to loads of extra pepper in it to give it some taste it was also watery, once we had our soup, there was another long wait for our roast to arrive, but while we were sat waiting we noticed that if there were tables of 4 or more people at them their service was much better than what we were getting, when our mains arrived it consisted of one carrot cut in half, and load of kale underneath one tough thick piece of beef, 3 half roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding and a little drizzle of gravy, when they eventually came back to take our plates away and see if we wanted another drink which I got a white wine and lemonade we asked to see the pudding menu, yet again after being left for 20 minutes we decided enough was enough and we would leave, as I went to the toilet my husband caught the attention of the waitress who was supposed to bring our pudding menu to us, she came over to him and said oh you wanted to see the pudding menu, he told her not to bother and bring us the bill, once we got the bill we looked at to see we had been charged £1.70 each time for my dash of lemonade in my wine, in total they charged us £99 + for a very poor meal and experience certainly won't be going back there againMore

Excellent alternative afternoon tea. To drink I had the beer bat which had a selection of three very good beers and my wife had the prosecco. The alternative afternoon tea arrived very nicely set out. We started with the pepper soup and then gradually made...our way through the rest of the savoury items, all delicious. The scone, served with clotted cream and jam again was delicious. The rest of the cakes we put in a box to bring home. Although afternoon tea we had coffee. A large cafetiere of very good coffee was served. We came away feeling very full having thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon tea. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Thank youMore

Phone line often not answered and turn up and told we short on staff! Had read reviews about on off service and staff issues. Went last week and was pleasantly pleased with the service from the front of house manager (South African lady) food was...good. However attempted to get a table today after being unable to get through on phone lines (again) was there 540pm and told we had 2 parties totalling 20 person and full up. Went Into Bar for food. Told by reception same system as restaurant and they were full and could t seve food!! What is going on ? No effort made to accommodate despite a visit a week before No manager on duty to speak to. Very poor customer serviceMore

Interesting place, called in for a meal and drink, they apparently brew on site , but the bargirl and one of the waiting staff did not understand the differences of the beers , food was good but not cheap for pub grub, be careful they...add a service charge , strange when there was no service and even water had to be pleaded for!More

My wife and I decided to have the alternative afternoon tea here as I had been given vouchers for my birthday. In the email booking, I had requested two vegetarian alternative afternoon teas. This was confirmed when we were sat at our table. Our drinks...order was taken by a different member of staff and we were asked if we had any dietary requirements, not realising that this meant if we wanted the vegetarian option. When our food arrived, it was the meat version, which was taken back and we then waited for our proper order. We were offered 10% discount because of this. The food was very good, apart from a hair in the cream and a 15 minute wait for a coffee! The discount was appreciated but the communication between staff and their general demeanour could be better. Because of this, we probably won’t be returning - unless we are given more vouchers!!!More

We booked The Wild Boar for a birthday meal as we’d heard so much about it. We live in the area and had wanted to try for a while, however we will not be back. Firstly we were seated at our table without a drinks...menu, so we had to ask for that. We ordered an expensive bottle of champagne, which was lovely - however this was not topped up by staff, nor were we offered another bottle or anything else to drink once we had finished that. If the service had of been on good form we probably would have ordered a second bottle! Food was below average. The Masaman curry was ok, pretty bland and the ‘cucumber salad’ that accompanied it was literally just a few slices of cucumber in a bowl. The burger was overcooked. Triple cooked chips were too chunky and borderline undercooked. We ordered a steak to come medium/well but again this came undercooked, we had also upgraded the chips to Parmesan chips but these were forgotten. No one checked back on our table after the food had been delivered so we couldn’t point this out until the rest of the food had been eaten. After desserts were cleared, we were not offered any more drinks, nor were we offered the bill. After trying to get someone’s attention for almost 30 minutes we got up to pay at the bar and our bill was given to us with a £20 service charge added! We asked for this to be removed as the place really lacks any kind of service what so ever. I had high hopes for this place but left really underwhelmed. For the prices they are charging you would expect the standards to be much higher.More

Had a lovely meal, but thought the bill was more than expected. I realised that a 10% service charge had been added without my consent.TBH I would have left a tip as the service was good, BUT to just add on and expect it to...be paid, sorry, but it should be discretionary. Lesson learnt check your bill before parting with your hard earned cash.More

Heading for Windermere looking for somewhere to have lunch, found the road closed and traffic diverted towards Kendal via Crook, Stopped at the Wild Boar, which looked promising, and it was busy too which is usually a good sign, but maybe this accounted for the...slow service. Thought the menu was quite pricey, and poor value as it turned out - never paid so much for shepherd's pie, nor found so little meat. Very disappointing, as we mentioned when we settled the bill. The Wild Boar gets great reviews, so maybe we were just unlucky.More

We arrived yesterday for afternoon tea. It was the new menu that started yesterday. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The red pepper soup in the little cup was delicious, it was actually my favourite. The burger was very very juicy and tasty. Fish cooked to perfection....The cakes were perfect and all the sauces were delicious. The peach and the strawberry Bellinis were amazing. All the staff were so lovely and helpful. The lady asked us for feedback on the new afternoon tea and checked in on us. We told her this was delicious and it was nice they wanted to hear the good and the bad so they could get it right. Nothing bad from us. I heard other customers leave and saying how much they enjoyed it so that’s also a good sign, although we do all have our own tastes. We thoroughly enjoyed and looking forward to coming back again and trying it all again. Thank you.More

Great food but we waited 40 minutes for our alternative afternoon tea picnic hamper which was pre-booked. An amazingly long time to wait for something which should have mostly been prepared in advance. Poor communication from staff who did not let us know how long...the wait was or advise us to get a drink whilst we waited. Limited drinks options for the hamper (no prosecco, wine or G&T option). A real shame the service let the experience down because the food (once it came) and the setting was really good.More

Had dinner on the first night staying in The Wild Boar and would definitely return. The food was to a very high quality and lots of quirky items on the menu. It wasn’t just basic pub food. The whole setting was very cosy and romantic,...the service was also impeccable. There were many gluten free options and I opted for the burger which was just served in gluten free toast. It was delicious and I would recommend to anyone.More

The atmosphere is really cosy, with the fire cracking away, some lovely music playing and candles on the table. The food is out of this world and the food! Had a great meal from start to finish. The food quality is excellent and clearly locally...produced. They catered well for my partner, who is gluten free, which was also of very high quality. The staff were really friendly and polite, they made us feel at ease and offered recommendations. Would highly recommend!More
