Excellent place to dine

Every course was really, really delicious. Monkfish, sullen skink, crab, scallops and vegetables were all beautifully cooked, delicate flavours complimented the main ingredient, pretty presented and cheerfully served. I couldn't recommend this excellent, small restaurant more.

The food in Hooked is of the highest standard. Their fish is delivered daily and you can taste it. On our visits to Windermere, it’s always our first go to restaurant. The service is highly professional but never obtrusive. Don’t forget to book a table here, you will not be disappointed.

Gorgeous seafood

We came in for dinner during our anniversary weekend away in the lakes, and I'm so glad we did. It's not a large place, and the menu is limited as the food is fresh and they just sell their speciality: fish and seafood. That does mean it's intimate, quiet and extremely well cooked with an attention to detail. The waiter, who I believe was also the owner, was very attentive. The food came out in good time, piping hot and well presented. There was more than enough on the plate as well. They'd run out of lobster which was a shame as we were both going to order it but nevermind, we are late and with losbter sometimes you snooze you lose. Instead we had soft shell crab each (was expecting one, but it was two each) which was so delicious. Then my husband had the sea bass and I had the trout. Both were exquisite and cooked with a light hand. I actually asked what the sauce was because it was so nice and it was just hollandaise, but honestly it was a million miles away from the stuff you get from a tub in the supermarket. 5/5 and I would come here again if in the area.

Waitress was very miserable not inviting, prawn starter- 1 out of 3 of the prawns was off and didn't replace or take off the bill. £15 for 2 prawns wasn ridiculous price. Mains were better but was missing potatoes one of the sides that was on the board but the waitress said it shouldn't of been put on the board in the first place? No fault of ours. It eventually came and the potato fondant was hard in the middle/raw. Like it had been microwaved. Very pricey, the service was terrible, wasnt impressed, won't be returning.

Disappointed 😞

We looked for a local fish restaurant as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. We were very disappointed with the meal received. We first ordered sea bass and were told that they did not have any left due to the stock being sold out over the weekend and everything being fresh! So we ordered hake! We were then told thst the hake was cod!! And so we ordered the trout..... this arrived as Salmon!!! (Which wasn't on the menu). This was our wedding anniversary! We chose the restaurant because we love fish. The Salmon was VERY VERY DISAPPOINTING. On our way out, other customers seem to be served sea bass!! We can only wonder why we were told it was sold out!!! We are very disappointed customers! I'm sure you wouldn't like being lied to.

Disappointing Experience - Wouldn’t Return

I had high hopes for this restaurant, but sadly, the evening fell far short of expectations. Here’s a breakdown of the issues we encountered: Starters – There was a significant delay in service. I had finished my starter, and my plate was cleared before my friend even received hers. Despite making it clear when ordering that oysters were to be served as a starter alongside my friend’s dish, this wasn’t respected. It completely disrupted the experience. Main Course – The monkfish was undercooked, slimy, and completely flavourless. Despite the restaurant insisting it was temperature-checked, I can confirm it was not properly cooked. For £35, I expected a much higher standard. Dessert – To top it off, I found a piece of plastic in my Eton mess. By this point, after dealing with the starter delay and the inedible main course, I didn’t even bother raising the issue. The service didn’t help matters either. With only two staff members working, one was incredibly rude. When I politely asked for the bill, I was met with an eye roll as they walked away. Overall, this was a deeply disappointing experience. For a restaurant that seemingly prides itself on quality, there was none to be found in the food, service, or handling of customer concerns. I would not recommend this place and certainly won’t be returning.

Delicious fresh fish - a special treat in Windermere.

We had an excellent meal here in our visit to Windermere. Staff were very attentive in the busy restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed our main courses which was Trout and Lobster Thermidor - both were extremely fresh and nothing we had tasted before. The crab starter was nice but a bit too deep fried for my own taste, my partner really enjoyed it however. We also tried the Oysters for the first time which were very fresh and interesting. Only thing we wouldn’t have again was the bread to start - felt very basic for the price of £5, just standard bread not focaccia or anything. The total meal came to £155 but this did include wine, starters and main course. Would definitely go again if in Windermere.

Yummy Seafood Restaurant!!

Lovely little seafood restaurant in a nice quiet part of Windermere. We booked an early evening table for 2 after exploring the area for the day and was seated straight away. Decor inside the restaurant is very nice and tidy. We order a bread selection and Olives to start which were nicely presented and tasted even better. Mussels for main were yummy and we shared a cheesecake for dessert. Service from Leigha was top notch 👌🏽 Would definitely recommend trying but would book a table to avoid dissapointment as people were being turned away as they were fully booked. Thank you Hooked for a lovely meal 🙂

Completely Hooked!

Our first visit to Hooked which we booked after looking at numerous restaurants in the area. Nice warm welcome when we arrived and we were quickly seated. Starters (Soft Shell Crab and Torched Mackerel) were both delicious. For our mains we both had Monkfish in Prosciutto. The Monkfish was lovely and soft and the accompaniments and sauce went well with the fish. There is a good selection of deserts. This is a small restaurant (around 20 covers) with a great atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff and a great Chef. What more could you want! Thanks

Nice place & food

Me and my partner attended Hooked whilst we were on a break in the Lakes. We originally booked the table for 19:00pm; however, time went to fast so we needed to make our booking a little later. My partner rang to change the booking and the manner of the man on the phone was slightly rude and aggressive. We then arrived at the restaurant which was a 5-minute walk from our hotel. The restaurant is quite small; however, it is really cosy. We looked at the menu which had a great range of different fish dishes. My partner and I ordered the Oysters and Gambas to start which were delicious and full of flavour, for our mains we both ordered the muscles which again were delicious. Overall, I really enjoyed dining at Hooked – the only critic I would say is that it is very pricey!

Perfect evening!

This was our first time here at Hooked! The server Leigha really knew her menu and offered her recommendations but also what was in each ingredient. She was so pleasant an attentive. We had the scallops to start and prawn. Cod as a main for Rik and I had the seabass! Excellent dining experience - thank you Rik & Pam

Don’t bother… Get a taxi to Gilpin

So booked our first nights dinner here. They offered a 8pm sit. We arrived and were told that there was only one bream starter.. ok fine. Then the lady says there is no mussels No Sea Bass No Swordfish for main. Ok we were stuck as it was now 8/30 so alternate restaurants not available. I ordered Monkfish and my partner Trout: Monkfish was good but the crab it came with was Dire…appalling My partner had the trout and after about 5 mins the waitress came out and says that they have now run out of Ratatouille…..it was substituted with broccoli and Rick hard carrots: I had a Pino which was on and with my main fancied a red so asked for a Malbec…. Terrible wine… I told the waitress of all my concerns but she disappeared and I was given the bill… The price was laughable. Tonight we went to Gilpin Spice… Paid the same money and WOW what an experience….

Saturday dinner for two

Very good restaurant with great ambiance and wonderful food. Very well presented front of house and great servers. My wife and I ate dinner at Hooked on a Saturday night, the restaurant was full and had a really nice atmosphere. The staff where very courteous and whilst the restaurant was busy, service was quick. For starters we had scallops, excellent combination of flavors with the peas purée and pork stack. I had the chowder which was simply delicious and very comforting as the evening was a little chilly. We both had the halibut with hassleback potatoes- the halibut was a generous portion and the skin on my dish was perfectly crispy, the skin on my wife’s fillet wasn’t crispy but her fish was well cooked. We shared a bottle of rioja and for £120 it was excellent value for money. The only reason we didn’t opt for dessert was a late night the previous evening at l’enclume and a good walk in the afternoon so we where both shattered! We will visit Hooked again, this is a gem in Windermere

Disappointed with the quality of Oysters

Lovely little restaurant, atmosphere was really nice, service was great. Mussels were really tasty, however we left disappointed with the quality of the oysters we had. Chef seemed to have forgotten to clean them out thoroughly as the oysters we received were full of chipped bits of shell.. not ideal at all, had to send them back, as we didn’t want to continuously swallow shell.. We were definitely not expecting this from a seafood restaurant.

Nice but overpriced!

Staff were very friendly and welcoming. The drinks menu was quite limited and the food menu was overpriced for what it was. For the prawn starter you only received 3 prawns and the sea bass didn’t have much accompanying it. We had a starter, main and shared some fries on the side (they say chips on the menu but they’re fries) and we left hungry. The fish was tasty but nothing to shout about. The lemon butter sauce on the sea bass was too strong and spoiled the fish slightly. The food was presented well though.

Hi 424beckal, The prawn starter is meant to be a light starter and having 3 prawns helps with the presentation of the dish. We will change the skin on chips to skin on fries on our menus.
