What an amazing experience we had at the Gilpin Spice, from the friendly introductions at the door where the maître d showed us around the various rooms and explained to us about what sort of table that we wanted (there’s a choice of 3- in a quit Chinese themed room), a function room and then in the main kitchen). We... More

My wife and I are very regular visitors to the Lake District probably visiting half a dozen times a year. We had passed the Gilpin Hotel and restaurant many times and thought we'd try out the restaurant, knowing it to be considered a little up market. We booked a table for two on the 26th April and as is typical... More

From the greeting to the service the evening was very relaxing and the food tasted amazing. We got G taxi from the hotel (approx £10 each way) at the restaurant we opted for the tasting menu for two £35 each a lot of food and it was delicious. We had about 8 dishes only one of which my partner and... More

GILPIN SPICE. We arrived early had time for a quick look around outside, the water feature tree is a fantastic centre piece and really sets the seen. On entering we were greeted and were offered several seats to sit in, a quiet area, a high seat overlooking the chef and a normal window seat which we chose. The waiter explained... More

During our third visit to Gilpin Hotel recently, we ate at both restaurants on the property. Gilpin Spice is an interesting tapas-style interpretation on oriental cuisine, while Hrishi is their fine dining establishment, boasting a recently awarded Michelin star. We found some of the dishes at Gilpin Spice a little underwhelming - we were expecting more from the lamb shank,... More

We took in both the Michelin starred "Hrishi" and the up and coming asian "Spice" resturants during a 2 night stay at their Lake House sister lodgings. For both evenings we were chauffeured to the restaurant from the Lake House Night 1 (Spice) This was an Asian tapas style so we ordered a number of dishes between us: - Flatbed... More

My husband and I are massive foodies and were excited to find out about this restaurant. Having visited all the countries the menu covered we had high expectations. We were impressed with the decor and service when we first went in the door. Having not read the previous previews we thought the service was fine. The staff did seem busy... More

We have stayed in many Hotels of this class and style and almost all of those in the Lake District . The food here was definitely the worst we have experienced. The food in the main restaurant is best described as style over substance . In the tasting menu the turbot measured 1.5cms by 1.5cms and was as a result... More

Excellent menu with something to interest every palate. Tapas style meant you could order as much or as little as you like and get to taste lots of different dishes. Trio of soups - each one thoughtfully put together: Thai tiger prawn was the best but a close second was the tomato one. My favourite dish of the evening was... More

My partner and I ate at gilpin spice last week. We were greeted at the door. The lady gave us a choice of where to sit. We decided to sit around the open kitchen. She then explained the menu to us. Gilpin spice is great if you like tapas. My partner and I really enjoyed the food. I recommend the... More

Gilpin Lodge is a luxurious hotel and restaurant with a friendly, family-run atmosphere, located in the Lake District just 2 miles from Lake Windemere. Set in 20 acres of private gardens, moors and woodlands, Gilpin has been run as a hotel by the Cunliffe family since 1987 and has won countless awards over the years for its exquisite British cuisine and 300+ wine list. The four intimate dining rooms and Chapagne Bar are decadent yet down-to-earth, and the bar, gardens and lounges are pefect for an informal lunch. Signature dishes include fresh native oysters set in their own jelly; loin of Grizedale venison with baby Savoy cabbage, parsnips, chestnuts and a cinnamon sauce; and hot prune and Armagnac souffl with ice cream.
