About
Gelato Village is the product of the passion for food held in the hearts of two Italians, natives of the Piedmont region which is the birthplace of the Slow Food Movement. Opening in the heart of Leicester in August 2014, Gelato Village has been committed to creating true Italian gelato with a unique sense of place. The cornerstone of our gelateria is our milk. From Vine Farm Dairy, this milk is pasteurised, unhomogenised whole milk, from the herd of happy Montbéliarde, Jersey and Holstein cows who graze the grass pastures in Great Dalby, Leicestershire.

Ice cream is very tasty. Shame about the arrogant staff. Took my 4 year old for ice cream and he pointed to the flavours and touched the glass whilst doing so. Got rudely reprimanded by the staff. Perhaps it should be a museum. This was...just one of the occasions where I have visited and the stuff have been rude.More

Gelato Village was a true haven of warmth, friendliness, fantastic gelato and, umm, dryness, on a rainy Saturday afternoon! Sadly the weather meant that we couldn't use the outside tables - always a perfect spot for people watching - but there were tables inside and...the usual friendly atmosphere. This gelateria manages to make every visitor feel like an old friend. I had my favourite stracciatella I *am* #TeamStracciatella) along with gorgeous dark chocolate - the darkness of the dark chocolate works beautifully with the mildness of the stracciatella and my son has stracciatella, fior di latte and milk chocolate. He was very happy! Gelato Village is the perfect spot for desert after an evening (or lunchtime) meal nearby, for a lunchtime treat, a mid-afternoon escape from the rain or just because it does the best gelato outside Passignano - the Umbrian one I grew up on! Indeed, Gelato Village continues to win international awards for its gelato and is now mentioned in most serious national newspaper articles about 'where to go for the best gelato'. We're so privileged to have it in Leicester.More

This place is very popular, always has been. We had to queue for a while but they services was pretty quick. The gelato is very delicious but I was a bit disappointed that there wasn't many options. I was looking forward to their pistacho as...it's my favourite but unfortunately was told it was sold out, this was around 2pm. Would be nice if they had more variety and more in stock.More

We haven't visited for ages, since becoming vegan, as we assumed there would be nothing for us. We were wrong, there were several vegan options available and these were just as good as the non-vegan offerings we remembered. Reasonable portions for the price. Great location.More

I love this place and always visit at least once when I'm in Leicester. I've never been to Italy but I've been to Italian-run gelato places in Austria, and this is up there with the best of them, in fact I think it's even better...because the flavours are so innovative and interesting. I have never had a flavour I didn't like, but my all-time favourite is Bee Happy (honey, lemon and sage) and I've never seen anything similar anywhere else. Of the more conventional flavours, I always think hazelnut is a good test of a gelato maker's skills - it can be virtually tasteless, but theirs is packed with flavour and I usually have a scoop when it's there. I like the system where even a small cone can have up to 3 flavours, just a bit less of them - it's very useful when it's so hard to choose! However I usually have the medium cone which is still under £5, comparing very favourably with prices in the southwest where I live, especially as the product is the very best. Everyone who has served me over the years has been friendly and polite. I get the impression some of them even remember me although I'm only in Leicester a few times a year, which is lovely considering how busy it can be in summer.More

After a fairly mediocre Italian meal, I felt the need to sample some authentic Italian gelato elsewhere. Due to the proximity of Gelato Village to my location and the great reviews on Google, I decided to give this place a try. Upon entry, I was...greeted by a nice, clean, spacious, and airy gelateria with plenty of choices of flavors. The staff was also really friendly, especially the trainee half-black guy who took my order. I sadly did not get his name, but he was absolutely lovely and took the time to get to know me and converse with me. All in all, I was made to feel extremely welcome in this establishment. The ice cream is also very good value for money as you get three scops for one fixed price. I ordered one scoop of each of the Salted Caramel, Sttraciatella, and Fior di latte in a large cone. The Stracciatella and the Fior di latte were both delicious I did however find the Salted caramel to be too rich for my tastes. The cone was however delicious and was one of the best ice cream cones I've tasted. This place was so nice that I went back with friends who equally love the gelato here. I also tried the Crema gelato on my second visit and it was lovely. This is a place I would definitely return to when I am next in Leicester.More

Was great to see the streets of Leicester bustling with people out, enjoying themselves again Sadly, Gelato Village yet again missed out, we arrived around 8pm, the queue for overpriced gelato was considerable, so I asked where to wait to order a coffee, I was...told we are closing the machine is off, so no coffee in a rude dismissive manner. The staff here have gone out of their way to be rude to the paying public on numerous occasions Their gelato isn’t bad, but not worth the prices they charge We will not be returning, some people do not deserve to be in business and this is one such place!More

As soon as I saw this gelateria I knew I had to try the ice cream even though it was a cold windy day. No worries, my husband could order a cup of coffee. Unusually, the ice cream was not on display but tucked away...in stainless steel lidded containers so choosing was done ‘blind’. It was hard to choose but the server explained that you can have three flavours even in the smallest cone or tub. Each of the three I chose was delicious, just the right consistency, not too frozen and not so soft that it melted and dripped through the cone. Maybe a little on the expensive side, especially if buying for a family, but we sat indoors and the staff were friendly and attentive. I’d be a regular if I lived in Leicester!More
