We last visited Cini a few years ago. We were excited to see on the website that they now have a roof garden but when we rang to book, we were disappointed to be told that it might be open if they have enough staff but they couldn't tell us even though the booking was a few days away. When we turned up, it wasn't open. We therefore had a table indoors. They had set the table for fewer people than we had booked for (despite me having rung twice to confirm the booking including number of guests), I appreciate that mistakes happen but the response was what let the restaurant down: they tried to squeeze us all on to the table but this would have been extremely difficult and impractical for us to eat and sit comfortably. Thankfully they agreed to add a small table on instead. After this disappointing start, service was incredibly slow and it took a long time for our drinks and food orders to be taken, and to arrive. When the waiting staff came with the food, they didn't know what the dishes were and had to go back to the kitchen to find out whilst still carrying the dishes. On one of the pizzas in the group, they hadn't added the extra topping asked for. Aside from this, the food itself was really tasty. I probably would be hesitant to go back given the overall experience, especially as it was quite pricey and they add a service charge too.

I’m sorry to hear your disappointment, Unfortunately the lack of staff it has become a problem and we not allowed to take on staff from Italy anymore. Please don’t get me wrong, the staff we have , even though young and not of the sector, are doing there very best but it is challenging at time to training new staff to loose them after three four months because simple they moving on to do there on things . We are capping the number of bookings for lack of people interested in the industry and if carry on like this , many individual restaurants will disappear. Ref; service charge: The s.c. Is shared to all the staff and make bit better on the wage which we pay well above the minimum. But unfortunately the brilliant tax man takes 30% out of the s.c. Because is a second income… This industry has always been seen has second class and quite snobbed by the Uk. I could carrying on for a full day , but it won’t change your disappointment. I can only apologise, hopefully soon the government will find the way to get staff from Europe that will work in sectors where English are to good for it ….

We had been here a, few, times before lockdown it was a nice place to go for a celebration. It use to be special, now it's average at best. We ordered olives and bread to start and we got olives only we then asked for the bread and got more olives and dry bread and charged for both. The pizza was tasty in the middle as that's only where the topping was, the fig Chutney it was meant to have was so subtle I forgot it had it until my partner asked how it was. The base was so tough I ended up leaving half of it. We had to chase for service and when they asked if it was OK we said it wasn't really what we expected and a little average, the waitress said 'oh ok' and walked off so not really bothered. We then got charged a quid for tap water and 12.5% service charge. They don't even have proper menus anymore just paper placemats style menus like nandos. It wasn't bad just not what it used to be, more of a bistro then a restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.

Having dined at Cini’s more than we usually would in these strange times and having experienced the food from their take out menus , this restaurant deserves six stars ! I feel quite upset by previous reviews , one including comments on the parking is quite absurd ! There is parking for at least 12 cars and you can’t rate a restaurant on the way a person customer reverses before you arrive We can’t fault this restaurant We recommend the most recent menu as one to explore ! Albeit my partner insists on having the lasagna as it’s the best he has ever tasted , the venison , chicken. sharing antipasti starter are AMAZING! Pizzas rock it out all the way - scrumptious The service has been brilliant on the past few occasions in particular - the staff are genuinely pleased to see you. We Admire their passion to keep going desired unprecedented times . They did open air cinemas in the summer which I believe went down well. This is great , genuine Italian cuisine , the vibe in the restaurant is good.... nice to be somewhere busy, popular and fun . Thank you Cini’s for all the effort you have put in. The food has been spectacular and through deciphering people’s roles, the owner is hands on . We didn’t find out until later that he actually took our order and served our food on more than one occasion. Do visit !!! It’s worth it !! If you like red wine, the Montekpuciano will blow your socks off and the Gavi de Gavi white wine was fabulous .

Two friends and I visited last night. Our table was booked for 8pm and after a long wait by the bar without anyone taking our drinks order we finally saw someone to ask to be seated at our table. Again we waited for ages at the table for someone to take out order and our request for tap water and ice was forgotten / ignored the first time. The food when it eventually came was good but the whole evening was spoiled by a lack of attentive service. We were there for 2.5 hrs and only managed bread and olives plus a main. We had wanted desserts and coffees but we all needed to get back for our children so their slow service cost them. Definitely wouldn't return I'm afraid.

Good morning madam Thank you for your honest review following your booking on Saturday evening. We have discussed this internally with our team and we can only apologise for the lack of service you received on the evening. We did have a couple of issues on the evening but that doesn't justify your dissappointment. This certainly isn't our normal protocol at Cini. Please if you can send us your details via email to : bookings@cinirestaurant.co.uk we will discuss further with you to find a way to repair your faith in us. Best Regards Andrea Paduano

On Arrival we where greeted and sat to order drinks and look over the menu which we thought was nice. The restaurant is very bright and well decorated and the kitchen looks great. We were looking forward to our meal. The prawn starter for £8+ had 2 small prawns on it for the price it looked ridiculous. The tomato and garlic bread was nice. The special beef was sold to me as a succulent beef that peels off the bone cooked in its own marrow etc and when it came out I was shocked it looked like 2 old rump steaks covered in fat, it was well done and was tuff as old boots..! The chicken in cheese sauce with celeriac was under cooked and pink on places, the plate looked like baby food. When the waiter asked me how the food was “ I replied not what we where expecting the beef or chicken aren’t very nice” he stood over me and my partner and made us feel uncomfortable. For £70 including a white wine and a soda n lime we felt we had been let down. For the record I eat anything and clear my plate even if I don’t like it.. I couldn’t eat 1/4 of the dish.

Good afternoon and thank you for your comment. We at Cini are very proud of the first class ingredients we buy and prepare for each one of our customers. I’m sorry to ear that your dinner was not of your standard. After enquiring with the senior members of the team, in our defence I must point out that ; The prawns we buy are the 6/8 size which are the most expensive ones after the u5 size, but take in consideration that is been clean of shell and head , The weight is approximately 160gr. Each prawns. Regarding the chicken , it does comes as a surprise, we selling on average 25 chicken dish a week and this is the first time we had a negative feedback. I presume, as it is a rustic looking dish it may not be suitable for your standard. For the ossobuco : It is a very famous dish from Lombardia region and is nothing else than a slow cooked Shen of beef with the middle bone cooked for three and half hour and served on saffron risotto. In this occasion it may been a miss explanation of the dish and I can only apologise for it . It would been easy to talk the restaurant manager on duty and I’m sure we would resolve there and then the issue. I hope this is satisfactory for you and I hope to see you in the next future at Cini . Kindest regards Andrea Paduano

As a customer of Cini for many years now, thought we would try a take out set meal at £39 per head. We’re hopeful of some nice food. Well how wrong were we. £39 for a cocktail (to be honest was the highlight) a plain salad with a small tough lobster tail, a over cooked venison wrapped in soggy pastry served with about 12 tiny potato’s, no sides or greens and a pudding which was well advertised as a cheesecake but resembled one of those wobbly tasteless deserts you buy in from the cash and carry or find on the desert section at an all inclusive buffet in Turkey. See images attached. If we were served any of that in the restaurant it would have been sent back regardless of paying £20 or £150 for a 3 course me with a shot of cocktail. So disappointing and a chance to promote the restaurant for when they are back to being full open after Covid clears off. Such a shame. The highlight was the packaging!! Only getting 2 starts as the takeaway packaging was impressive and the cocktail. Food would be -1 star

Dear Toby, we had respond to your privious private e mail you send us , but of course you are entering in a crusade agaist Cini, thats ok by me. So, let ME tell you few numbers , so my response can be also educational for you. During the three days weekend we served 287 meals which 260 were Valentine set meal and you are the only one to describe the meal terrible from start to finish , im sure everyone has the rigth to have ther own opinion..... We had a fantastic feedback from so many customers which has givin us the bust needed for all of the Cini team and the industry in general. lets start with the menu: lobster tail, garden leaves, toasted hazelnuts, beetroot, orage segment, lemon dressing, please ligth me where is the plainess.... main course: Organic fillet of venison from Wigston Churcill Estate , Scotlad, with black truffle and cream of mushrooms, streaky bacon , wrapped in puff pastry on potatoes parmentier and served on the side by a fresh beef and venison gravy. Now , i may agreed the the time the dish was sealed in the very nice and expansive packeging and take home it would soften up by the steam that box will have create, so if you are at the restaurant , first would cost you appx. £39,00 per portion and it wouldnt have the soft pastry issue. dessert: i must admit , the mistake we made to discribe the dessert , and please when you find that dessert in the cash and carry or anywhere else let me know so i can go and buy them , it will cost me much less in time to prepare them... it was soppose to be: strawberry and cheese mousse, with white chocolate spirals . much of a ligther dessert after a red meat in pastry so more ligth dinner for you and your partner to be able to get more amorous afterward .... regarding the cost of items on the menu please check prices for : lobster, organic venison fillet, and all the others ingridients used for the menu. I hope this as ligthing you on some of the issue raised and give you a bit of inside education. kindest regards, Andrea Paduano

We have been to Cini’s several times over the years and each time we’ve visited had hoped the experience and more importantly the service would be better only to be more disappointed each time! The service is lacking to say the least. Take forever to even take your order, you constantly have to call the waiting staff over if you want a drink etc as once they’ve took your order they forget about you other than to drop your food off. No atmosphere at all. The food is very average and very little taste to it. Despite the poor service and tasteless food it used to be buzzing when previously visited but it isn’t we even that now! They automatically add service charge which I wouldn’t mind if they gave good service. We are usually good tippers but I object when the service is so poor. If you dare to offer feedback or have an issue with anything at the time they take offence immediately and make you feel uncomfortable. They don’t even try to rectify anything just get very snappy! As you will see from the owners replies to negative reviews the owner is very rude. All in all, tasteless food, extremely poor service and overpriced. There’s far better Italians in Leicester so I wouldn’t bother with Cini’s.

Keep on trying cinis in the hope we’ll get a good meal out and good, attentive friendly service as it’s only 100yards from our house. But keep being disappointed. Usual very slow service, no warmth from the staff especially the head of service. Food was average Salmon Parpadelle was very bland and dry. Half empty on a Friday night sums it all up really. I would absolutely love to call this my favourite local restaurant and rave about it to others but they just can’t be bothered to get it right. It would be so easy to just put a smile on and engage with the customers rather than ignore them, take ages over taking orders, converse with the clients and actually give us an experience rather than just fetching food from the kitchen and placing it on our table. Could be and should be so much better. Added Service charge on automatically, when we asked if we could remove it and add our own tip, the bill was just snatched off of us and no comment at all. Happy to discuss positive ideas with the owner.

My Husband and I went to Cini on Saturday night and will never darken their door again. The waiting staff were really pleasant and that's the only positive I can find from the night. The food was dull and uninteresting. The Ravioli I had which was described as being served ON a vegetable jus with a drizzle of basil pesto and olive oil, arrived swamped in a vegetable casserole. I couldn't even see the ravioli which was meant to be the star...the whole dish was flavourless. My husband had the fillet which looked to have been left on one side to cook so it was dry and then swamped with a sauce he didn't know was with the dish. Everything else was extra £. Broccoli x 3 tender stems £5 chips £5 on top of £35 for a fillet I think is overpriced here. We did pleasantly feedback and were assured it would be passed on to the chef. Who was already apparently b**locking a member of staff because once again they had forgotten to toast the pine nuts and "they've told him so many times" not what I wanted to hear really. I couldn't believe my eyes when the bill came for over £160 including 1 bottle of wine and two gins. An absolute rip off. When we queried it, it was referred to the Chef who then rounded on my Husband asking him "What do YOU DO for a living" it would seem unless you are a chef your opinion on his food is invalid. He ended up physically barging my husband, throwing the bill across the room and marching off to the kitchen. We had no intention at all of not paying for our meal. I felt most sorry for the staff who were left apologising on his behalf. Last time we were there we had a table booked for 8pm and were left at the bar until gone 9.30 because the table we were meant to be sat on still had diners at it and they wouldn't ask those diners to move to the bar even though they had finished their meal. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant when you have other decent restaurants in South Leicestershire that give you fantastic value for money and no belligerent chef!!

A group of 18 shooting friends visited Cini for lunch in February. From entering the restaurant and encountering a warm welcome, the complete service, food quality, quantity, wine quality, value for money and support from the staff during our lunch were all excellent. I have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant. A very well done to the owner and staff. We will definitely return. Dave Thomas.

I eat and stay at cini's regularly and I can't recommend it enough. The menu is varied for whatever Italian dish you are in the mood for. The specials are delicious and the service is always excellent -really helpful and friendly. If you have not eaten at Cini's yet you are missing out. If you ever need to stay in Leicester you can't go wrong booking a room in the 'villa' either because the rooms are homely and the breakfast is fantastic! Way better than a soulless Premier inn or Marriott.

My friends and I booked a table for 19:30 and upon arrival we were seated at the bar and ordered drinks. An 1hr and 15mins later, after asking three times, our order was finally taken around 20:45. We were absolutely starving and a bit annoyed. We were then given ‘free’ bread as an apology. Such a shame as the food was wonderful and the restaurant has a lovely ambiance. The restaurant was busy and I understand that earlier pre-booked tables had arrived late, which isn’t the restaurant’s fault. All that was needed was better communication, letting us know what had happened, taking our order and pre-warning us of the wait. We would have understood the situation and relaxed. The staff did apologise and ensure that we were taken care of after our wait. So I would still recommend as i am sure this a minor blip in what is a lovely restaurant with delicious food. Just a bit of pre-management of guests would be needed if this happened again.

Good monring madam Thank you for your recent review. We are disappointed to hear about your experience while here. From memory we think you also had a bit of wait for one of your friends to arrive which may have lead to the service being a bit disjointed. We always pride ourselves on our level of customer service and are very sorry that this is not what you recieved on your visit. We are however, pleased to read that you enjoyed your meal and will do our best to serve you more efficiently upon your next visit. Andrea Paduano

Went for lunch on a sunny September afternoon. We went for the baby squid with chickpeas as a starter to share which was mouthwatering good! I had the halibut for main and my friend had the spatchcock chicken. Everything was so fresh and cooked to perfection! To top a lovely meal we received such good service and at no point felt rushed or overcrowded just the right amount of attentiveness

Had a great experience last night. We were recommended to try CINI... now it is certainly on our regular list! The food was wonderful, i started with Anatra fumicato.. ((smoked Duck). It was so tasty, my partner had the giant gamberone, steamed and flavoured to perfection. We were served by Mario and Keely ( hope that is the correct spelling ). You could not ask for better service and friendly without being over pushy. Grazie e mille , noi aspitamo per il nostro prossima visita. Colin e Clayton

Visited Cini recently and had a fantastic evening. Drinks were amazing and food was top notch. What really makes this hidden gem stand out is the staff. Despite being obviously young they really make this place the most amazing experience, make you feel so welcome and like you’ve known them for years. I was served by a young girl called Olivia who made no request feel too much or like we were a inconvenience and ensured we had a lovely evening. The warmth and charisma of the staff is what makes this place stand out as a go to for an evening out as well as the delicious food. The only reason it’s not 5* is because the atmosphere was let down by the constant swearing coming from the kitchen which frankly made us feel quite uncomfortable. Apart from that I really can’t fault this place and will definitely be returning soon.
