Our local history group was on a two day visit to Lincoln and we each decided to find our own overnight accommodation. We chose the Bronze Pig which turned out to be a small double fronted house with a restaurant of some repute on the...ground floor with three or four rooms for an overnight stay. When we arrived the front door was locked but soon opened by not the sort of character we would have expected to greet us. The owner was called, checked us in - took us out of the front door to a side door, along a forbidding looking passage to another door which led up a steep staircase to the well equipped, very modern and welcoming bedroom. We enjoyed a most comfortable night in our room - full marks for that. Our party of 15 had booked a meal elsewhere in town for that night so we did not have the opportunity to ample the menu which seemed to specialise in steaks We had paid an inclusive price for breakfast - happily pre ordered the night before. The breakfast - £17.50 a head if not included, was the offer of a cooked breakfast plus tea or coffee. No offer of fruit, cereals and toast to go with the jam or marmalade on request. Nicely cooked and well looked after by the waitress. But breakfast a little underwhelming for the money.More

Pretentious overpriced third rate food delivery point. Limited menu, with poor quality ingredients. Virtually no choice as 25% of menu not available and only limited number to choose from in first place. Go elsewhere and get a better meal with more choice.

We were well looked after by our host Ginny, thank you. The meal was good quality but it was not the fine dining experience we were expecting and didn't match up to the prices. Personally I think the BP is better placed in the Gastro...Pub theme. We were quite worried having booked some time ago, and the recent reviews have been quite bad. We were not kept waiting, the decor is pleasant and comfortable, the restaurant was not cramped. We were not kept waiting.More

Wife and I went for a nice meal, as we’ve always had at the BP, but wow, what a car crash it was this time. The steak has always been expensive but well worth the money but this time, oh dear. Worryingly the restaurant was...empty. By the time we left just after 8pm, there was only us and 2 other couples which maybe explains a lot. I had the fillet steak and the wife opted for duck as a change. The fillet steak was ok, a bit anaemic in colour but was drenched with a peppercorn and spinach sauce which wasn’t pleasant and totally spoilt the steak. (Why was it not in a pot on the side to add at your preference?) The previous dauphinoise potatoes were replaced with chips which despite looking nice were horrible and clearly had been fried in dirty oil. The salad with it didn’t go. For £50 it was massively underwhelming. The wife opted for duck which was tough and not filling. A small amount of potatoes were added. Again a costly meal at nearly £35. My beer and her elderflower tonic were warm, I asked for a colder beer but got the same tepid beer when replaced so didn’t ask again. Both of us went for tiramisu for dessert to at least finish on a high. But it was inedible. The ladyfingers were hard, no moisture. 2 mouthfuls and we had to reject it. It was served in a type of school canteen glass, again for £13.95 each was awful. Service wasn’t very attentive or great either. Sad to say a total mirror of our last experience there in April 23. We won’t be going back I’m afraid.More

Room was small, bathroom huge. Bed was advertised as a King asked on check in is it a King, reply was yes, but it was only a Queen. Was advertised as a hotel but was really only Airbnb, access to rooms up side alley and...up some very steep stairs, nosiest from from other quest banging doors early in morning. All in al a very disappointing stay. We will not be returning. .More

What a disaster! We booked for Valentine’s Day - the taster menu. The food was amazing but there was nothing to indicate it was supposed to be a special event, with only a wilting rose on the table. We were given a table and after...we had been left for a few minutes I asked the owner about the menu we had. He snatched it from saying we had been seated at the wrong table and we needed to move. I would have thought it would have made more sense to leave us where we were and just swap the menus! There is nowhere to put coats, and very little room around each table unless you are treated as a privileged customer and put in the window seat. The whole evening was dull and extremely expensive for mediocre service, having to ask for our glasses to be refilled because our bottle disappeared! We gave them the benefit of the doubt because we had booked for our anniversary in March. It was terrible, and shockingly expensive for what we received as an all round service. We were shown to a table and left. 40 minutes later I had to ask if we could have a drink. As I am not drinking alcohol through Lent I asked if they had non alcoholic wine. The waitress didn’t know so went to find out. The owner then returned with a bottle stating this was it, and if I wanted it I would have to buy the whole bottle at £29.95. I declined. The food was well cooked, but TOO minimal. We were largely ignored throughout the time we were there whilst the owner spent most of his time gaining over a younger couple in the ‘place of honour’ window seat. The only time he came over was to tell us how bad business was! There were only around 4 tables occupied so, as he doesn’t do any work, he had time to visit each table to check if everything was ok. It wasn’t. The food and service you receive in no way balances out the price you pay. We had such high hopes for this restaurant after our absolute favourite, Branston Hall, closed down, but it is not to be. We have cancelled our Christmas lunch and we are going somewhere we know we will be looked after properly.More

Dinner at The Bronze Pig on a cold crisp February evening was a memorable experience. As soon as we were through the door, the ambience was warm, welcoming and civilised. The decor is original and tasteful, the seating comfortable, and there is no jangling muzak...to interfere with conversation. Service was cheerful and attentive, without being the least bit intrusive. The menu is quite short – a good sign. It suggests an attention to the locally-sourced freshest ingredients, and a regard for detail by the chef. The restaurant’s excellent reputation goes before it, and is well-deserved. We had a glass of Prosecco as an apéro. My first course was an ox tongue hash with a crisp quail egg, an inventive idea, where the blend of flavours and textures was a delight. My companion had the same, and declared it toothsome. I chose duck breast for my main course. Two handsome pieces arrived, skin seared almost black but gloriously pink (or rose as the French put it) on the inside. It was served with buttery pommes Anna which I love, seared chicory, orange and star anise. The meat was succulent and the complementary flavours just sublime. My companion’s clam chowder looked lovely too. A silky Chablis was the perfect accompaniment. My guest chose the tiramisu for dessert and took up the restaurant’s suggestion of a glass of Marsala to go with it. She found the pairing just right. I had the dreamy frangipane, with macerated fruits and Chantilly cream. This is surely what the angels feast on, and I bet they accompany it with a fragrant glass of Frangelico too. Our waitress was charming, and throughout the meal. Pompeo, the owner, gave us his friendly and professional attention, ensuring that we had the very best experience. In short, we found the food at The Bronze Pig expertly prepared and presented; our reception genuinely hospitable, and the atmosphere, sophisticated without pretension. I shall certainly be back.More

I gave this 1 only because I couldn’t give it 0. It’s a small restaurant so our group of six had to stand half in half out of the door when we got there because there was no one to seat us. Someone looked over...and saw us when they heard the phone so we thought they were coming to seat us.but they squeezed past us and answered the phone instead. Then walked off. Finally, after asking a waiter a bloke came over and told us where our table was so we ended up seating ourselves. We should have left there and then because it only got worse. We weren’t asked if we wanted drinks once we were seated. We had to ask a passing waiter. The manager came over and took our drinks order and said he needed to take our starter and main orders at the same time. He said the chef wants to get it done as soon as possible. So we ended up with no break between courses. Very odd. Wine finally came but he realised he’d forgotten water we’d asked for, so he went off to get it and clearly forgot because he went into the kitchen then out again and served another table. Meanwhile our wine was still sat unopened on the table. He eventually came back with water, picked the bottle up and started opening it. The corkscrew was half in when the phone rang and he put it back on the table and went to answer the phone. We opened it ourselves, just as well because he didn’t come back. The food was so disappointing I’ve not got much to say about it to be honest. Most of us ordered sea bass and it came just literally sea bass and garnish. Nothing else. I thought they might bring vegetables for the table or something but no, just sea bass. It was nice sea bass but that’s all I have to say. My husband had jambalaya. I didn’t know jambalaya came with rock hard carrots and no sauce. It was truly awful. It was hugely expensive and all we got was a few bits of sea bass, some hard carrots and bad service. I’d like to think it was a one off but even if it was I won’t be back to find out and we’ve already told a few people not to botherMore

If you haven't been to Lincoln before then this hotel is ideal to explore the castle and the cathedral and have a lazy walk around the top of Lincoln .The town is a 15 minute walk down Steep Hill where there are old quaint shops...on the way down . We stayed New Years' Eve and the room was great - big bathroom , nice bedroom and warm . Unfortunately on that night there was no breakfast so we were treated to a bottle of champagne instead .Just something to bear in mind for the future . The meals on that night were £185 pp with drinks - without drinks £135pp - well it was New Years' Eve and it has a Michelin star - well worth the night if you like a tasting menu and various wines to match the courses .Car parking is at The Lawn nearby - about a tenner for 24 hours - tons of space there as there were about 10 camper vans in there and still room for more - no problem parking but you have to pay .If you want a dining experience that goes above the norm then this is the place for you . Plenty of nearby pubs that do meals if that suits your pocket . With the position of this place - it is ideal . I would definitely book to come here again as it ticks all the boxes for a tourist break in Lincoln .More

Food was nice but nothing special, had better in the area. For me the main issue was the service, very slow at taking orders when there was only us and another table to look after between 2 staff … asked for the bill as the...time on the car was running out and it took nearly 20 minutes to receive. Probably wouldn’t return unfortunatelyMore
