Visted here during the Christmas period when I was visiting from London, it does hold a very good reputation despite the poor rating on trip advisor. The service was ok but they were very busy and staff were not as attentive as one would expect, at times you had to try and hunt down a waiter if you wanted something. We did order an extensive amount of food, on first glance the menu did appear to be on the higher priced end of things. There are two menus an English and a Chinese and the Chinese menu food looked way nicer. I think next time we will simply order off the Chinese menu, as I think the food is of better quality. The dim sum was lovely quiet small portions of 4 each so you would need a few to satisfy, the mains were delicious and the noodles were outstanding and different from your average chow mien.  The ribs were also great, we had no issues with the food as it was all very delicious. The service could have been better but we would go again, just don't expect a reasonable priced meal the prices are high in here.

Went for late lunch only downstairs room open. Got table right at the back by kitchen and fire exit not great. Food excellent as usual. Shared Dim sum platter with lots of variety of prawn parcels steamed and deep fried with delicious pickled vegetables and seaweed. Also spring rolls and chilli sauce. £9.50 a head but very filling . At least six pieces each . For main courses we had lamb in Mei Mei sauce which is good sizzling and hot and tasty king prawn curry with fried rice. Enough to take home for supper. Service is efficient and Chinese tea very nice.

Service was swift and professional, banquet for 9 was plenty and varied full of flavour. Downside was they told we had a vegan in our party in advance and gave the impression there would be choice however in reality offered chow menu/ noodles with vegetables and starters were chicken and sweetcorn soup or veg rolls, options could be a little more exciting, no offer of vegan tofu dishes was an unwelcome suprise. Prices just a tad over what is reasonable and agree with others who have commented re putting tip of 10% already in bill as inappropriate, we always do tip that or more but want to choose for ourselves on the day as service can vary anywhere. Overall nice experience for a special occasion.

I visited the restaurant today as I fancied some dim sum. There is an extensive menu of steamed and fried and I ordered three - spring rolls, vermicelli prawn rolls and pork bun. They arrived in good time but were very disappointing- stodgy, not enough filling and very salty. I have eaten lots of dim sum and sadly these were the worst I have ever eaten. The bill was also very high. There were no prices in English on the menu I was given and I foolishly didn’t ask.

Went here as a birthday treat for our 11 year old - been here many times before. It was on 2 Jan so was not too busy and late afternoon. We waited a long time to be served our drinks even though there were many staff around. Then the starters came and were fine. When it came to the mains we were served roasting hot plates ( with no warning to my 11 year old who almost burned herself ) these plates than became ice cold as we waited 35 mins until the meals actually arrived. We were about to leave and just pay for the starters and drinks. When they came, one ( crispy beef in OK sauce) was cold and not crispy like it had been left on the side for ages and was under cooked. I called the manager over who said he could order another but it would be the same as that one and that's the way its always served? It isn't and he was patronizing. He said he would remove from the bill - he didn't. We just caught the eye of the nearest person, paid the bill and left as couldn't wait to get out of there. Such a shame, We will never go back.

Blooming awful experience and meal. Overpriced and tasteless. We arrived at 8.40pm and were shown to a table where we ordered drinks and a set meal. By 8.45pm we had our soup immediately followed by the mixed starters. By 8.55pm we had all 3 courses on our table at the same time. 15 minutes for a 3 course meal. I politely told the waitress that we were not ready for the third course as we were still eating the first course and she told me the kitchen closed at 9 pm. It was like a comedy of errors. By 9 pm 20 minutes after we arrived we had all three courses on our table with a full bottle of wine and the shutters of the restaurant started coming down on the windows. The staff were putting their coats on and all leaving. We were told that we could stay and eat the meal which was by now clap cold as the manager would lock up when we had finished. The food was tasteless and we paid £88 for what can only be described as a joke. Had we been told when we arrived that they were shutting in 20 minutes we would have gone elsewhere. Greed.

Today we lost sum... Food was average. Servers were cold and blunt, there were about 4 servers for 4 tables. Not once did they come over to check the food was okay, to ask if we wanted more drinks/food. My girlfriend is vegan and asked the server if any of the dishes had meat or fish, then they brought out sweet corn soup with chicken in it. No good. They then proceeded to stare overtly at my girlfriend talking to each other and laughing- they may not have been saying anything however they must understand how that would make somebody feel. It wasn’t looking to check if we needed anything. They were more worried about clearing tables for non existent customers rather than looking after the ones they had at the time. The server snatched the bill away before I could see how they got to the total and offered no receipt. After reading other reviews I assume this is due to their “Service charge” they like to add. Don’t mind service charges if they actually offer a good service and if it is documented in the menu. Overall if you are a couple looking for a good meal and a nice time I’d recommend anywhere else. If you’re looking to feel uncomfortable and unvalued this is the place for you! Won’t be coming back, even if you paid me!

We'd book last weekend and tried calling as were running late (no answer there yet appreciate they were busy). Got ignored for 5 minutes whilst we stood at reception. Not once was even eye contact made!! We were literally just about to walk away and wish we had done. Plenty of busy waiters and waitresses dotted around us with their order slips and didn't even acknowledge we were stood there. Onto the service and my goodness .... the shenanigans we had from one lady who seemed to think one of our party just wanting sliced duck in Cantonese sauce was him asking for moon rock ..... it was excruciatingly painful. Naturally we could barely hear her talk through the mask and no great issues there but there was no attempt to explain why something so simple could not be made up. The starters arrived and literally 90 seconds later the 'warm' mains got put on the table. I had my main meal arrive before the dim sum!! What planet is this place on?! Utterly hideous place I'm afraid. Service doesn't even deserve a 1/5 and unless you like poor quality food stay the hell clear of his pig hole.

I did read about the negative reviews on this place but I have to say that our experience was very good. We went for lunch on a mid-week school break and all the tables were full. We did not book and like most Dim Sum place, we were just asked to wait till an empty table is available. All the different Dim Sum dishes arrived very quickly, piping hot and delicious. Really great food and many different Dim Sum choices. Prices were reasonable as well - we had a mixed roast dish which was amazing at £13. The comments about unfriendly waitresses may be due to cultural differences. For most authentic Chinese restaurants, their ethos is to provide great food quickly. The waitresses run off their feet bringing dishes after dishes out and cleaning the tables for the next diners. Personally, I would go back again to eat here. The menu are not suitable for a vegan or vegetarian as there are limited choices provided.

Afternoon lunch of chicken chow mein for 2. chicken and mushroom with fried rice for 1 with 3 Pepsi’s, came to pennies under £49. My noodles were brick hard and when I asked I’d they should be like that, the server didn’t know and got someone else who said the food on top was supposed to cook them and they would go soft !!!!. This would be an absolute no for another visit and would avoid. Over priced and poorly cooked food.

I have visited Mei Mei on many previous occasions during my Grand National visits to Liverpool and food has been good. My first surprise was to be told they closed at 9.30!! Very early! The restaurant was very quiet when I arrived at 8.40. I ordered Saki which was in a white jar and put in hot water but cold! I ordered ribs which were tough and fatty and, before I had chance to finish these my main course of shredded beef and noodles arrived. Beef was OK But noodles cold and tasteless! Before I could eat these I had been given the bill and staff had started eating food or leaving at 9.25. I could add more but no need.☹️☹️

I have eaten in many restaurants, but never have I been ushered out of an establishment with such indecent haste as here. Having accepted a large order of food over two courses at around 8:30, the pressure to leave began before the main courses had arrived, and the maitre d began hovering with the card machine before we had finished eating our mains. The whole restaurant was cleared by 9:40. We weren’t the only people taking food home in boxes because we hadn’t had time to eat it. The food was delicious and waiting staff were lovely, which is frustrating because it was eclipsed by the rudeness and I don’t think I’ll ever go back, or recommend it to anyone else. 10/10 for food. 0/10 for welcome and hospitality. Dreadful experience.

Took a table booking of 6 at 9.15 Rammed starters and mains on table all together, forced the bill on us whilst we were eating then when we waited to pay were told we were eating too slow. Absolutely disgusting staff and ruined a family meal. NEVER AGAIN !!

I went with 4 friends on Tuesday night. We got a table and only 2 friends ordered starters. After they had their food we were left for a half a hour . I asked a member of staff about our dinner as we were still waiting and he was very abrupt and said ' Well you did ask starters first ' Which would be obvious . 20 minutes we were about to leave when the food came. In that time a group of 8 people came in and had finished their starters and were nearly finished their main course. When we got the bill there was a service charge of 10% which i refused to pay as the service was so bad. I would never return

Takes a heavy heart to write this one. Really bad experience we had here on Chinese New Year January 2023 and the restaurant managers really do need to reflect on this. For the last ten years me and my partners family have been visiting mei mei's for Chinese New Year on the Sunday which the celebration falls upon. Every year my partner (who is Cantonese) calls the restaurant ahead of time and tries to make a reservation weeks in advance and on every occasion she is told the restaurant does not take reservations for Chinese New Year and we simply have to turn up on the day. Every year we turn up easily 45 mins before the restaurant opens to queue to ensure we are seated seeing as the managers operate a 'first come first served' mechanism on this day. This however is simply not the case. People turn up in considerable group sizes on the day and 'push in' to the front of the queue and when the shutters open these groups are let in by management on the basis that they have reservations. Really, really disappointing as it seems one rule is operated for some people and one rule for others, a double standard if you will. The problem with our visit this year was that the issue above was considerably bad. There where so many people who turned up with 'reservations' that the restaurant quickly became full, resulting in people who had queued up not being able to be seated. Myself, my partner and her family being some of these people. We had complained to the management and explained the situation and management simply didn't want to hear any of it but we did manage to get a seat as my partners family are regulars to this restaurant. Before we got seated however the mechanism adopted by the restaurant resulted in a lot of frustration and shouting being directed to people who where skipping the queue from those who had fairly waited in line. It really is shameful behaviour and i have never seen it this bad despite all my years of attending mei mei's for CNY. What i would say to the management is if you want to seat your friends and donators to the conservative party first would it not be prudent to close your restaurant from 12-2pm to accommodate this private sitting, then re-open at 2pm for regular patrons? This would be a much fairer option and stop people (especially the Chinese elderly) from forming a queue for no point. Interestingly enough we spoke to a Cantonese lady who my partner knows and she was let in on a 'reservation' basis. She explained that previously she and others would be let in via the kitchen entrance to the rear of the restaurant and not the front but that wasn't enacted this year. What a tragic and unfair mess/process by Mei Mei's. Management, sort it out.
