Came for a family birthday lunch at the weekend. Had a lovely light table quite near the door. From the starters, we selected the pate, soup and the mackerel, and a portion of the focaccia. The pate was delicious and was served with a decent portion of bread, and the mackerel was fresh and tasty. For mains we chose, the roast port, the roast beef, the duck and the salmon. The pork was absolutely amazing, with fantastic crackling. The roast beef was served pink and with a huge Yorkshire pudding. The duck was also served pink and was really tender. We washed the meal down with a bottle of Chilean Sav blanc, a bit overpriced at £35, and a few bottles of beer. We finished off with a couple of doughnuts and a couple of creme brûlée’s. Every scrap of food was eaten, and we thoroughly enjoyed every course. What’s not to like. 👍👍

I have only heard positive things about Wrekfish, so i was excited to visit on Friday for a friends birthday dinner. As it was a party of eight we had to choose off the group menu but there is plenty of choice and there were multiple things people wanted to try. Our waiter was very attentive, but you don't feel you are being 'hovered' over. Drinks were topped up quietly and food arrives seamlessly. When you leave to the table to go to the toilet etc. your napkin is quickly folded into a square for you when you return, its a small but nice touch. Everyone enjoyed their food and for £38 for three course it is really very good value. Thanks for the night!

We visited on Sunday for a 40th birthday celebration and were treated like VIPs from the second we arrived by the friendly and attentive staff. Nothing was too much trouble and Emily looked after our party brilliantly, leaving us feeling like we were the only ones there.
The food (and drink) was tasty, well presented and in good portions for the price.
This was my first visit to Wreckfish and the staff there made a very positive first impression - as a Customer Experience Manager, I have high standards of customer care and I have to say that Emily is an absolute dream! Keep hold of her, she'll take you far!
Thank you all for a fantastic afternoon!

I visited Wreckfish over the weekend as a birthday treat for my Mum. I’ve been this restaurant loads of times, and always shouted about it, to the point where I’ve bought several family members vouchers for Christmas / Birthdays so they can come and try it for themselves.
However, this time I was kinda disappointed. The menu wasn’t really explained to us, as I expected a Sunday roast or the usual “two courses for __” which I usually go off, but they wasn’t there. Despite saying online there was a Sunday Menu which included two courses for £21, and it was wrote inside the restaurant downstairs too... I was just confused by the whole thing. Maybe it cut off earlier in the afternoon, but it could’ve been a little bit clearer online to save this confusion for other people. Anyway, the olives and focaccia was nice, cauliflower risotto (my favourite dish I always get) was amazing too. But I was slightly disappointed by the mains, as a vegetarian, they was pretty safe and underwhelming- and not great value for money.
Our waitress wasn’t very warm or chatty, which made me feel a little uncomfortable. I began to feel like our table (three of us) was maybe annoying her or being a inconvenience, and then I realised how ridiculous that was considering we was sat there doing nothing, and the service was just not great.
As someone who also works in hospitality, I know it’s hard trying to please customers and trying to keep people happy. However when it’s someone’s birthday, and it’s stated in the reservation, I believe the least staff can do is wish the guest a Happy Birthday and give them a complimentary glass of Prosecco, just as a nice touch. This didn’t happen, nor did our waitress even acknowledge my mums birthday, which was abit shocking to be honest. We did get a plate saying “Happy Birthday” with a tiny cube of fudge on at the end, after I asked if there was anything like that which could be given to my mum. This was better than nothing, but also a little too late.
Overall there was some tasty bits, the Cabernet Sauvignon was absolutely delish, but the service or ambience just wasn’t what it usually is. I’d like to think this was just a one off, so I can come back here again as I usually would, but I left feeling abit reluctant to visit again.

We have been fans of Elite Bistros for a number of years and have dined at Wreckfish several times.
To be fair our experiences have varied from fabulous to okay, a little hit and miss but the ‘hits’ are worth the risk!
Last night was desperately disappointing for multiple reasons.
Staff - usually friendly and pleasant were surly and rude. We were shown to our table by who I assume was the head waiter. He didn’t speak a word. He then spent the evening running around and I really mean running. The staff thunder up and down the stairs giving the feeling of rushed chaos. Not a good atmosphere to dine in at all.
Restaurant - was cold. Experienced this here before and assumed it was air con. As you can’t have air con on due to COVID it can’t be that. There is a cold draft blowing through the restaurant all the time. Felt like a kitchen door was open.
Food - cold! Cold plates and cold restaurant meant that by the time all the meals had arrived they were cold, stone cold by the time you finished you food. I mentioned this to the waiter and the manager said we could have desserts for free. A nice gesture but I would have had a dessert anyway. I didn’t want a fuss, it was just a comment so when my cod wasn’t cooked through I didn’t say anything.
The quantity and quality of food plus the restaurant experience do not command £39 for 3 course. The set price menu approach demand a better dining experience, I expect it to be good at least, it wasn’t worth half the money.
The bill was £220 for 4 and we left cold and underwhelmed.

Excellent experience all round from the food to the service and the surroundings. The set menu early lunch/dinner is a bargain - starter main and dessert was 10/10. I opted for the meat options and my friend the veggie ones - all were delicious. Considering the current climate we were glad that it was open and staff seemed very pleased to see us arrive! Definitely visiting again and will be recommending this place to everyone. Thank you!

Booked at table at 6 & we arrived a little early. The kitchen wasn’t open yet but we were taken to our seats & offered drinks, bread & olives. The menu wS limited but looked good. We opted for the beef dish to share which the waiter advised would take 45 mins (also says on the menu). We were happy to wait & felt relaxed chatting & drinking our wine. The waiter attentively topped this up. The food came within the correct time slot and was very nice and the dish was enough for two. Overall, a really lovely evening and I would return.

We ate here recently and were really looking forward to it, however found the whole experience to be really average.
The staff didn’t seem particularly friendly though I appreciate with the obligatory face masks it’s often difficult to pick up on this so perhaps I missed some smiles or other visual queues.
On being seated we both found it easy to select a starter from the set menu on offer however as we are both vegetarian we were disappointed to see just one option on the main courses so both had to go for this.
In a month of Sunday’s it would never have been a first choice for either of us, but our main of miso glazed butternut squash with king oyster mushroom, turnip, peanuts, whipped sesame tofu and kale arrived. The portion was massive. Everything tasted like it had been cooked with no seasoning or flavour - the whole dish was a bit austere to be honest.
The miso glaze was lost and none of the other vegetables on the plate seemed to have been given the star treatment in any way. The sesame tofu was unnoticeable too. In the end we both stopped eating because a) there was too much (no matter how much we ate there always seemed to be the same amount left on the plate!) and b) we got bored of the dish to be honest.
The main ingredient ingredients could have made a lovely pithivier with the addition of some extras and some lovely cheese perhaps. Either way, the main was a complete disappointment. A diner at the next table also had this dish and left around half too.
Lovely desserts, nice wine. Service very discreet.
Overall I’d say it was fine but nothing more than that. Total bill was just less than £150 which was fine but I’d have expected a main with a bit more taste and oomph. Wouldn’t go back, although it was a nice enough place.

Lovely meal for 2 on a stormy Sat night, warmly greeted by all staff and had a perfect little table by the window in the corner allowing a great view of the kitchen and the wonderful decor.
The fresh bread whilst waiting for food was beautiful, although the accompanying Olives were a little disappointing.
The starters and mains are a bit on the small side so definitely add some of the house chips / veg, but the quality is top notch. The duck was cooked to perfection, and any vegetarians still have great choices. Finally a tempting dessert menu if you have space left, indulgent and refreshing.
ps there are tables in the cellar for larger parties but I think the kitchen tables are best for couples so mention when booking for a more pleasant evening.

Visited today for the first time and will definitely be back. Service, food, atmosphere all 10/10. We had the lunch menu which at £22 for 3 courses is so reasonable given the quality. The pork ribeye was one of the nicest meals I have ever eaten. The staff were so lovely and it is evident the entire restaurant are following Covid procedures to make you feel safe while you’re eating.

Visited Wreckfish on new year's day at 5pm. Started with focaccia tasteful light good start to the meal. Starters arrived 1 pig's cheeks and 1 chicken liver pate. What can I say do good we ordered a second helping, amazing. Main course, dry aged sirloin to share cooked on the bone and served with all the trimmings, roast potatoes, two types of cabbage, carrot and Swede mash. Again amazing. Dessert next, 1 honeycomb semifreddo and 1 sticky ginger sponge what a great end to the meal. The food here is outstanding and would do the 4 hour drive from home just to visit wreckfish for another outstanding meal. Great service, nice to be able to watch the chefs at work who made everything look so effortless. Will be back.

We don't live in Liverpool so this is a destination restaurant for us, we have visited many times and it never disappoints. Food and service are always excellent. We took the corner table for the 6pm slot which gave plenty of time for a leisurely meal before the train home. Compliance with Covid regs is exemplary, spaces between tables are generous, and we felt as if it was a completely safe environment. It's a special dining out experience for Liverpool and altho it's not cheap, there are an awful lot of places around where you will get an entirely forgettable meal for not much less. But that's enough from me. Go try it for yourselves.

My family and I visited this restaurant yesterday evening (we’ve visited on two previous occasions) and had another lovely experience. We were seated at a prime table facing the kitchen. The waiters and waitresses were very attentive throughout - couldn’t do enough for us. That goes without mentioning the food which was delicious. We ordered the cauliflower risotto; the feather blade of beef and ham hock which was all served promptly. The white wine we opted for was crisp and accompanied the food beautifully. Finally, we ordered the banana cake dessert which didn’t disappoint. The restaurant is welcoming and quality is guaranteed.

Came here just before Christmas to treat the girlfriend. We had an absolute great time dining at this restaurant. Chris was our host for the evening and he done a wonderful job of explaining the small details of the meals and what to recommend for drinks. The food was fantastic, the service was superb an overall enjoyable experience.

Date night. Have been meaning to go to Wreckfish for ages. Looked after superbly by Jamie (?). Lovely building. Gave Jamie what type of wine we like (white, minerally with citrus flavours) and his selection was spot on. Has 3 courses each. The 6 plates were simply magnificent - sea bream and salmon, beef and duck, black cherry donut and frangipane. Any room for improvement? - think the downstairs toilets could do with a refurb and spruce up but not a distraction to what was a wonderful dining experience.
