Snuck away beside Hooters (no connection) this remarkable very friendly establishment is probably the best cafe in the waterfront area. Lots of regulars which shows how good it is. Well worth calling in for a leisurely unhurried snack or lunch.

For a family who have never been to Liverpool I can not imagine a better way to be welcomed. The food was lovely and very fairly priced, the Coffee was far far better than you get from any of your standard coffee shop chains. But above all it was the care and attention to service that was what really made this place an absolute must for anyone wanting some lunch or a coffee in Liverpool. All the little touches, making the hot chocolates a little cooler than usual due to them being for young children, providing a plate of crisps for the children while they waited for their lunch, not just saying dogs are welcome but opening the back room so we had enough room to drink and eat comfortably without taking over the place. If all that already wasn't enough to guarantee next time we come to Liverpool we will come back, then the incredible welcome we got from the lady working who couldn't do enough to make us welcome, happy and comfortable is the clincher. She was an absolute credit to A Small Fish in a Big Pond. And as first time visitors to Liverpool she was an absolute credit to the city. I have visited countless Cafes over the years but never felt a review was necessary. Today I felt obligated, I would've felt incredibly guilty to have been on the end of such fantastic service and a lovely lunch break and not to have made sure the appreciation was known. Please, anyone in Liverpool after a bite to eat or even just a drink. Don't look any further!

We found this Lovely Cafe when looking for a bite to eat. So Glad we did. The chicken wrap was so good and tuna/cheese toastie very tasty. Couldn't fault anything. Very quirky inside full of character. I definitely recommend trying this Little Gem. Lovely Food. We will definitely return. Thank You!!

You’ll get a very warm welcome at this lovely little coffee shop. There is a tempting range of beautiful cakes on the counter and they’re served in huge slices. The coffee is great too and the prices are excellent value. It’s conveniently situated opposite James Street station, a block back from the Three Graces and is well worth seeking out.

Just came upon this hidden little gem of a cafe whilst following my phone's directions to another one - so glad I did! The staff were all so friendly and the lady happily explained what the various cakes on display were. I went for the Norwegian almond, which is apparently their most popular, and I can fully understand why - it was delicious!! Combined with an excellent pot of tea I left very happy and also relaxed from the quiet comfortable space indoors.

My son is a student in Liverpool and treated us to a visit to Small Fish for lunch. Piri Piri chicken wraps and ham and cheese toastie were delicious and fresh. Norwegian custard pie was outrageously good. Coffee was made with locally roasted beans and was first rate. And to cap it all service was super friendly and efficient. A really fun place to visit. Architecture was really interesting too.

We stopped here by chance whilst on our way to the maritime museum. The lady serving us (I think her name was Cheryl) was so lovely and polite.. the coffee was absolutely delicious and very reasonably priced (just what I needed with my hangover!). We will definitely be back again! See you soon!

This is the first time we had visited and we weren’t disappointed. Greeted by lovely staff. Gorgeous coffee & a fabulous lunch. Drinks - we had 2 flat whites (one with oat milk), earl grey tea & a salted caramel/ biscoff frappe. (Absolutely delicious!) For lunch we had Tomato, basil & garlic soup. Peri peri sandwich’s (one with gluten free bread) and a tuna/cheese toasted sandwich. The cakes looked delicious. The prices were great value and we will definitely be visiting again next time in Liverpool. It’s located on water street, near the royal liver building, next door to hooters. Definitely worth a visit! Thankyou x

Highly recommend this cafe. The coffee was great (we’re from New Zealand and are fussy about such things!) We shared a slice of a danish almond / custard cake and it was absolutely divine. Lovely atmosphere and the lady serving us (possibly the owner) was so friendly and welcoming. Best cafe we have been to thus far in the UK.

I’ve come here several times now and the coffee and cake is just exceptional. My favourite is the Norwegian almond cake it is just out of this world! My wife s quite fussy but fell in love with the carrot cake and it’s the first thing she orders. If you want something special you’ve got to come here. Cheryl is super accommodating and really friendly

We travelled up from East Sussex in early Feb 2022 for a brief city break. We spent three successive mornings brunching here. The food and drink was splendid, we had such a warm welcome from the lovely lady in charge and each morning we left feeling that bit fuller and nicer. We adore Liverpool and this is a great little place. We will definitely be back. Keep up the good work!

We had our teams Afternoon Tea here today, as usual Cheryl and Chris pulled out all the stops. Delicious sweet and savoury afternoon tea with plenty of tea/coffee and lots of replenishing our plates. Such a lovely, friendly atmosphere, we had the back room for a group of 16. Great service & value, never rushed, even the background music was to our taste..soul and Motown😊 Thanks Cheryl and team, see you soon. Sue and the gang xx

What a great little find! Looking for somewhere for lunch after a visit to the Liver Building. Friendly little place. Very relaxed atmosphere and extremely friendly staff. Food was delicious. Service excellent. Toasted ham and cheese on artisan bread and sweet chilli chicken wrap lovely. Special Pork and Apple roll was gorgeous. Coffee was also delicious. My husband is not a coffee drinker but he had a second mug while we shared a delicious carrot cake. Big enough for 2!

We visited here based on the reviews and we weren't disappointed. A warm welcome, great toasties, coffee and cake. Plus advice on what to see in Liverpool when we asked. The next day we couldn't decide where to go for lunch to start with - and then thought - we loved A Small Fish in a Big Pond so much we went back for another lunch. If we were local, this would definitely become a regular place to eat.
