Great to be back at Maray. First time I've eaten at the Albert Dock venue and it surpassed all expectations. All staff are acting to stringent SD rules so if you're still a bit weird about eating out post corona then I'd recommend you come here. All staff were excellent and their SD system is very very good. Food as always was top notch; disco cauli, caulifower bhajis, roasted carrots, buttermilk chicken, pan fried hake and lamb shoulder shawarma. All fabulous and gluten free. My favourite is the chips with hummus and fiery zhug. Epic. Lovely bottle of wine for £20. Great customer service. (If you're enjoying your meal with the EOTHO scheme then do show your appreciation by tipping your server based on the full price of the meal. Every little helps.) Well done, Maray!

Great Food and lovely outdoor heaters!

Visited here on 19/4/21 We had pre-booked and received a warm welcome from the staff. Our cubicle outside had a lovely warm heater overhead to keep us nice and toasty. The menu was explained to us and Covid guidelines were adhered to. They do a fab lunch menu - 3 dishes for only £15!! And they are decent portions too! Normally, a lunch deal equals less food but they really didn't disappoint. We had the vegan choc and pistachio tart, very rich but couldn't help taking bite after bite! The best thing? The cocktails were very good. Not watery/full of ice/diluted with juice etc. Very refreshing. I got the Moloko (contains rum) and it was bloomin fab!! Will definitely be going back, and I'd recommend to get booking straight away! Constructive criticism: We were a table of 3 and two of us ordered primarily meat dishes. Our friend only ordered a salad and the chips. All our dishes were served and we started eating but our friend was left waiting for her veggie dishes. We asked the waiter what the hold up was and he said he would go and check. By this point she had been waiting a good 15 mins. He came back saying they were on the way (despite us waiting quite a while by this point; all of our food had been served and non of the dishes my friend ordered had arrived) Finally the chips came out, then the salad. It was just a bit awkward us eating and my friend not being able to as she was vegetarian Perhaps always best to ask guests if they are sharing (tapas style) or eating separately. Other than that we really enjoyed it and will be back.

Hi there! I know I'm highly bias but the cocktails at Maray real are fab. They're a lot better than being locked down in your house drinking wine aren't they! Unfortunately sometimes the food does come out it an awkward manner which I imagine is why your friend was left watching you eat while her small plates were being prepared. Feedback is always appreciated, good or bad, so thank you for that. We'll see you when you return. Elliot

First Lockdown Meal out

First meal out post lockdown. Great outside table and lovely waitress Molly who was very attentive and chatty thank you Molly. Overall the food was just okay I loved what they do with cauliflower, the bhaji's and the electric cauliflower were lovely however the meal came out very piecemeal nothing was delivered all together for both the starters and the main tapas dishes, as a group of 4 you like to eat and enjoy the food together plus you mix things up or enjoy several dishes at the same time but some of us were still sat waiting whilst others ate. Would be nice if they had a few bigger main dishes options like chicken lamb kebabs with rice salad as even though I enjoyed the food even sadly I still felt hungry at the end of the meal. To their credit very covid secure plus staff were brilliant very polite and attentive.

Hi Natalie! I'm glad I was able to make your first lockdown meal out an enjoyable one. Unfortunately sometimes the food does come out in dribs and drabs, as is the nature of the way we serve our food. We do have a few bigger meal options which are on our lunch menu, this is only served Monday-Friday, 12-5 though, so may not have been available at the time you dined with us Still, I'm glad that you felt safe, enjoyed the food and that the staff treated you well Hopefully see you again soon, maybe on a weekday for a spot of lunch for one of those bigger portion options! Slow, slow service

Two of us popped in for a quick snack. As it was a Sunday afternoon it wasn't busy. Because there were only ywo of us we had to sit at a counter on stools which meant the counter top was highter than a normal table top. Our orders were eventually taken and then there was a long wait for our drinks (Orange juice and Tea). It was over thirty minutes before our single dishes were served. The food tasted really good but were small meze portions. We ordered a desert each but after another 20 minute wait we gave up and left, paying only for the dishes we had been served. I've given three stars because the food tasted good, but the service was not good and the seating was not good. I will not be returning.

Possibly the best began food ever!

We visited here during Veganuary so they had an excellent half price offer on vegan dishes, as well as a scheme to plant trees for meals sold. The staff were helpful and friendly without being pushy. We ordered a selection of vegan plates and we were blown away by the flavours. It’s rare we find food that is better than we can produce ourselves but this was amazing. Gourmet quality vegan food! Fab, fresh food and lovely staff

Partner and best friend, both vegetarians and meat eater me, went for pre Xmas dinner at the stunning Albert dock venue. Lovely attentive waitress who explained the new menu as hadn't been for a while and was really helpful re hygiene processes and timings, even found us a heated table outside after our meal to finish our drinks. Got 2 bottles of a fab North Macedonia wine good value at £20 a bottle. Cauliflower disco ball we nearly ended up fighting over, such fabulous flavours! Lovely sharing platter to start and 6 other dishes were so tasty and flavorsome. I also had lamb koftas fabulously succulent. Only one we didn't think was the best was the aubergine but it was fine just not to our taste nor was my partners beetroot habiscus gin but again personal taste. Absolutely gorgeous food would totally recommend this place, great food and great customer service, looking forward to our next vist!

A wonderful meal in a lovely location

We had a really lovely evening here. The service was attentive and everything was well-cooked and delicious but I particularly enjoyed the sauteed prawns and buttermilk chicken. I have often eaten at the other two Marays but this was my first time here and I must say when seated upstairs the view over the dock is pretty impressive. All the very best to everyone at Maray in these difficult times.

So disappointing after being recommended

Booked for lunch whilst moving our son to university. We ordered Hummus & flatbreads and whipped goats cheese & breadsticks to start, Seven spice beef brisket and the Lamb shawarma to follow. We sat and watched as tables which arrived after us received their food, and after 35 minutes we were brought the goats cheese and brisket? We waited and I then asked a waitress where my sons hummus was. Her retort was ‘this is a tapas style restaurant and dishes come out when they’re ready’. I struggle to understand how a kitchen can prepare a hot beef brisket dish faster than a bowl of hummus? 5 minutes later his hummus arrived, no sign of my lamb! Another waiter then tried to deliver a buttermilk chicken to us which wasn’t ours. After 50 minutes I asked after the whereabouts of my lamb and was told ‘I’ll go and check’. I declined the offer, we paid and left. I’ve worked in hospitality for over 30 years and to be honest poor experiences like this are good once in a while. It makes you realise how well you do in your own establishment, however much you self criticise. The food we did receive was passable but the breadsticks weren’t homemade and were poor.

Sorry It Must Be Me!

I have given a rating of 4/5 because we were a party of six and the other 5 were satisfied with their food etc., with only me being less than enamoured. The restaurant is cosy so not much room to move about so a couple of knocks from the chair behind me was a bit irritating. Staff were friendly and efficient so no problem there. Facing the toilets and kitchen was entertaining at least. First of all I was underwhelmed by the menu choice available although if you are a vegetarian it seemed quite good. We ordered 2/3 dishes per person as advised plus some bread (which was disappointing both in taste and quantity. The dishes came as they were ready as informed which is fine but they were more tapas size rather than small plates that led to some fighting fork action. They were quite decent in terms of taste but nothing outstanding. I had a dessert which was unusual for me (I know I could have ordered more dishes but see below) because I needed a bit more. I found the cost of the food to be on the pricey side for what was received with the wine well overpriced which meant I drank less so one less bottle. This may be a post covid effect but I cannot tell til I get out more and will come back and edit if necessary. A disappointment in terms of choice, portion size and prices. Underwhelming and unfortunately not in my top ten as the rest of the family like it so we may come back.

Had a lovely meal with friends at Maray. I must admit I wasn’t too sure about the menu as there were things I had never tried before. I discussed my not liking spicy food and our waiter ( Aiden )who went to great lengths to explain each dish and offered to not use the sauces on a couple of dishes as he felt they may be a bit spicy but the dish would be fine without the sauce.He explained that the concept of the restaurant is to order different dishes which you could share. My wife and I ordered 5 dishes which was just right. The lamb was superb, we enjoyed every dish and would certainly recommend Maray. Special mention to Aiden who looked after us extremely well. Excellent customer care.

Interesting food in a great location

We were recommended this place by a local. Waiter informed us that all food was delivered as and when ready and it was small portion and gave us some advice on what to order portion wise. Food was very interesting and unusual, started with a meze followed by 2 lamb dishes and prawns. All was good and would recommend to anyone who likes food with a difference. Excellent choices for vegans, better than fo meat eaters !!

Amazing food, great service

Really amazing food, some incredible dishes on the menu. The only issue was the waiting time between dishes - the last of the main meat options, sea bass to be exact, arrived 45 minutes after ordering. Great service but could be more attentive.

Disco Cauliflower!!

We visited here on a Sunday afternoon, we sat outside with an Albert Dock view. Our male server on arrival was great, welcomed us explained covid protocols and gave us some recommendations. It was our first visit based on a friends recommendation & it lived up to everything we hoped for!! We had a mezze and two sides each - the whipped goats cheese and disco cauliflower were incredible to look at & taste!! All the food we had came out in stages which was great as it was so tasty I couldn’t have eaten it all at once! We were also impressed by the payment system at the end. Covid has really impacted my choices in the places i eat but Maray is proof that it can be done right & well & dining out can still be enjoyable! Thank you! Highly recommend booking in advance!!

Fantastic Location and Great Food

Brilliant early evening meal in the sunshine at the Albert Dock was an idyllic experience. The booths on the dockside are very safe and comfortable with individual heaters although we only needed them when the sun went down. Superb service which helped to explain the dishes on a very interesting menu and even allowed us to taste the wines on a very varied wine list. The small plates are generous and well designed above all they were superbly cooked. First time here but not at Maray but will certainly be returning. Just like being on holiday.

"What a find this evening"

First time at Maray, Albert Dock! Didn't know what to expect with the menu but from the start Elliott explained the concept of the small plates and took time to chat to us and did that with other customers around us which is a very special natural gift! Doesn't happen very often during this time of pandemic, staff shortages etc! Food was brilliant, so tasty and excellent flavours. I don't write reviews very often but feel that a good review is well deserved for Maray and especially Elliott. Thank you.
