Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Service was great however I'd like the option of tipping rather than adding a service charge on my bill without asking. The food was ok at best but way overpriced but that's what you pay in tourist locations. Starters were tasty Tomato soup and garlic...mushrooms. The main Braised beef with mash was tasty but certainly not worth a price in excess of £20. The fish and chips should be called batter & chips as there was more batter than fish, a very very small fish. The mushy peas were nice but the curry sauce for an extra £1.50 was runny like water and not worth the extra cost. The chips were quite clearly overdone almost burnt literally to a crisp and I did mention this but was told that's how they always are...so they're always overcooked and burnt? Dessert - Didn't have one so couldn't comment. Drinks....had the cavern club lager it was ok nothing special. Overall we wouldn't go back.More

Wasn’t planning on eating here but sure glad I did. My wife and I stopped in before hitting the Cavern Club and had a fantastic meal. The chicken and pan Asian noodle dish was fantastic. Great flavor and not aggressively spicy. Service was friendly and...efficient, and the price of the meal was well worth what we received. If I’m back in the area, I’ll be eating here again.More

Great staff, convenient location to eat after a trip to the cavern club, 15% discount was good but it wasn’t amazing, husband enjoyed his steak, I had burger but it was nothing special. Starters were nice, too full for pudding and price of a small...bottle of beer £4.80 was a bit steep! Bigger bottle of cider was same price? Staff friendly and attentive went in at 4.30 so wasn’t busy.More

We decided to eat here as we explored Mathew street on a trip to Liverpool. Having read lots of reviews and the responses of management on here - and Google, I'd like to share our experience. First of all, the management are delusional! The poor...quality and overcooked food, hidden charges combined with the attitude, are all true. Our food was awful, the fish had the daylights fried out of it, chips were yesterdays reheated. They managed to make 1 meal out of 3 barely edible. Waitress didn't want to know, management had an attitude problem, I just wanted to pay the bill and get out. When that came there was a whopping 15% service charge!! Which like lots of posts on here have said is 'hidden' which it is. I paid cash and was due 2.36 change, this rude waitress looked at me as if to say: 'you seriously want that?' As she slapped it on the counter. Management here, just deny anything you say instead of accepting honest feedback and changing their attitude. The only reason this place even survives is because of all the 'innocent' people visiting Mathew street and have no clue as to how poor this place is until they sample the goods. If this place was a stand alone anywhere in the UK and had to produce quality with no 'hidden charges' in order to survive, it would not last 5 minutes in business. It purely survives on the history of John, Paul, George & Ringo and nothing more. You'll no doubt notice 99% of their food photos are all staged for the photo shoot. I can assure you, none of our meals looked even close to what they purport the food to be. AVOID. Absolute circus!More

Service started off brilliant then as 9pm came it became poor. They cater for gluten free very well but not so much for dairy free, which is a shame.

Very welcoming. Choice of higher chairs and table or standard. We had higher which was very comfortable. Good menu choice including scouce, unique to Liverpool, an old sailor recipe from which the term scoucer comes from. Out friends were French and were delighted when a...server was able to converse in their own language. Excellent and tasty food with a good price point. Opposite the famous Cavern Club. 15% discount available off food if you had been on the Magical Mystery Tour around Beatleland in Liverpool and exhibited your tickets.More

Started off well with good attentive service in a really busy time. Orders taken for starter and main and delivered in a good time. The restaurant started to empty and then service became quite slow. 20 minutes waiting to give dessert order and then 25...minutes waiting for it. The food was good but the time delay rather spoilt the overall evening. Waitresses were pleasant and chatty but it seemed they perhaps got tired from a busy service and lost concentration.More
