This restaurant is over the road from the famous Cavern Club, of The Beatles fame.
When we got there we were seated virtually straight away. The staff were attentive but not in your face, the food was stunning, the prices were reasonable and the ambience was great.
Whilst I would highly recommend the lamb and the pork belly, every dish we had was beautiful, even the kids’ meals (which at some restaurants are dreadful and an afterthought) were of excellent quality, and value at just £6.25 for a main course.
A service charge of 10 per cent is included in the bill which sometimes annoys me, but the staff here deserve this and more.
A bonus of 15 per cent off food because we went on the Magical Mystery Tour was the icing on the cake. Looking forward to returning with my husband, sans enfants, so we can enjoy some live music in the Cavern Club afterwards!

We had a 15 per cent discount as we had earlier participated in the Magical Mystery Bus Tour, but the prices here are reasonable without the discount. The restaurant has a funky Beatles themed decor, exceptional and friendly service, draught beers, locally sourced food and good portions. Highly recommended

I organised a birthday celebration at the Cavern Club Restaurant for 24 guests, I dealt with Marcos before the event via email to arrange the booking and he was very helpful and accommodating. On the day of the event all the staff were amazing, so friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic, we pre ordered and it went without any hiccups. Everyone loved the food! The staff also set up the birthday cake and checked with me when I wanted it served. The atmosphere was also great with live music on Mathew Street. It was so nice not to be rushed out of the restaurant too once we had eaten and allowed us to have drinks at our table afterwards. I would highly recommend visiting the Cavern Club Restaurant for a large group booking and we already can’t wait to visit again! Thank you so much!

We were looking forward to dining here but it was a great disappointment. The food was nice, we had fish n chips & desserts.
However we were there for nearly 90 mins and only had our mains, the restaurant wasn’t overly busy but it was frustrating as we felt we had to keep chasing staff to clear our plates & order drinks etc.
The staff seem to congregate by the bar/pass and mess about which was frustrating when we were continuously waiting for stuff.
We waited half an hour for desserts before we enquired where they were & was told they hadn’t been put on, the desserts were taken off the bill but up until that point we were ready to walk out which is something I have never done - nearly 2 hours for 2 courses in a relatively quiet restaurant. Customers were being sat down & receiving their food while we were waiting for desserts, drinks etc.
We visit Liverpool frequently and love the Carvern & Matthew street but I doubt we’ll be back to the restaurant in a hurry.

So sorry to see this. I can assure you this is not the standard we expect and your experience is totally unacceptable. We have addressed this in-house. If you are willing to give us another chance when you next visit you will see this is not a regular issue.

Shocking service. Agree with everything the other 2 reviews have to say. Service was slow, tables not cleared unless you asked for them to be cleared. Waited and watched our chilled bottle of wine turn warm before it arrived at the table. Food left on warm plate but not brought to table. But the best bit was when we asked for the Manager’s name so that we could complain, he, within 3 minutes, appeared at our table asking why we wanted his name. He was seriously passive aggressive, holding his stance next to our table threatening to get us escorted out of the building as we tried to eat our meal. We asked him several times to leave our table so we could eat the mediocre food in peace (that was actually deducted from our bill at the end of the torture of being there) and reducing my wife to tears. Not a good experience. Reported to Director of the establishment. Awaiting response. Don’t go.

I booked table here as my party was 16 people. I asked in advance if each couple could pay for their portion of the bill. I was told they could not give me 8 separate bills but they would take each one and take it off the bill. They said there was many ways to pay. This didn't happen. They say they give you 15% discount as we had tickets that night for the Cavern Club Beatles what they don't tell you is they put a surcharge on the food bill and one on the drinks bill so you are paying 2 surcharges which amounted to more than the discount so uou are not getting tge discount but paying more. Two of my party had Steak wh8ch wasnt cheap. Both had to be returned they were stone cold. The chicken fillet was also returne as it was cold. The staff were not great. Totally put a dampner on my Saturday night in wonderful Liverpool. I will not be returning to this place. AVOID

Fantastic Food, Great Portions with a nice menu selection.
Booking process nice and easy.
Restaurant clean and tidy, toilers also.
Service started very well but then quickly dropped off. Starter plates sat empty for 10 minutes, mains sat empty even longer, had to ask for additional drinks not offered. Did see a big table enter just after us so assume staff busy with that, but if thats the case more staff needed. Also, gin served in a half pint glass? With those prices it's not acceptable. Gin Glass, Garnish & Ice please. Complementary service charge on a bill wants scrapping too, albeit we paid it on this occasion.

Service was great however I'd like the option of tipping rather than adding a service charge on my bill without asking.
The food was ok at best but way overpriced but that's what you pay in tourist locations.
Starters were tasty Tomato soup and garlic mushrooms.
The main Braised beef with mash was tasty but certainly not worth a price in excess of £20.
The fish and chips should be called batter & chips as there was more batter than fish, a very very small fish.
The mushy peas were nice but the curry sauce for an extra £1.50 was runny like water and not worth the extra cost.
The chips were quite clearly overdone almost burnt literally to a crisp and I did mention this but was told that's how they always are...so they're always overcooked and burnt?
Dessert - Didn't have one so couldn't comment.
Drinks....had the cavern club lager it was ok nothing special.
Overall we wouldn't go back.

We came to see the cavern club on a flying visit and ended up eating here. Very inviting surroundings and friendly service. Cavern club lager was very nice. We had the sea bass and chicken skewers. Both were 100%.
If you are in the area, you really should give it a go. Prices averaged around £15-£18 for main courses but were worth every penny. Great back drop of the actual club for the beatles pilgrims too.

Just left here and was absolutely disappointed at the food. The chicken wings were overcooked and dried out as they were left under the hot lights for 5 minutes before being brought to our table. Fish and chips were disgusting....chips were overcooked and fish dried out. Wouldn't recommend this place its over priced and overrated for what you get. If I could give no stars I would.

We decided to eat here as we explored Mathew street on a trip to Liverpool. Having read lots of reviews and the responses of management on here - and Google, I'd like to share our experience.
First of all, the management are delusional! The poor quality and overcooked food, hidden charges combined with the attitude, are all true.
Our food was awful, the fish had the daylights fried out of it, chips were yesterdays reheated. They managed to make 1 meal out of 3 barely edible. Waitress didn't want to know, management had an attitude problem, I just wanted to pay the bill and get out. When that came there was a whopping 15% service charge!! Which like lots of posts on here have said is 'hidden' which it is. I paid cash and was due 2.36 change, this rude waitress looked at me as if to say: 'you seriously want that?' As she slapped it on the counter.
Management here, just deny anything you say instead of accepting honest feedback and changing their attitude.
The only reason this place even survives is because of all the 'innocent' people visiting Mathew street and have no clue as to how poor this place is until they sample the goods. If this place was a stand alone anywhere in the UK and had to produce quality with no 'hidden charges' in order to survive, it would not last 5 minutes in business. It purely survives on the history of John, Paul, George & Ringo and nothing more.
You'll no doubt notice 99% of their food photos are all staged for the photo shoot. I can assure you, none of our meals looked even close to what they purport the food to be.
AVOID.
Absolute circus!

Booked a table in advance and mentioned it was my husband's 40th birthday which is why I think we were given a fantastic table on the upper floor over looking the Cavern Club. It was great to watch the comings and goings of this iconic club while we were having dinner and really did add something special to our evening. We mainly booked as we were going to the Cavern club afterwards but the food was delicious and plentiful, cocktails very good and the service was fantastic. Would recommend to others

Great to hear you and your husband had a great celebratory meal. Of course, the top floor is excellent for people watching and checking out The Cavern. Hope to see you again soon.

We wanted to try the vegan version of scouse ‘blind scouse’ which was particularly marketed as a way to accommodate vegan visitors. The dish itself was yummy. However we were disappointed that we were served dairy butter with the dish. We were then even more frustrated that when we mentioned it to the waitress she said it was our fault for not saying we were vegan and that we didn’t want the dairy butter, the dairy butter that was not even mentioned on the menu description. Sad really as her reaction spoiled the experience and it’s not like you can’t get individual packets of flora / other dairy free margarine these days.

We were bought a Virgin gift experience so the meal was from a set menu and already paid for. So far so good!
We arrived were seated and our orders were taken quickly.
The starter arrived & was pleasant. We waited and waited for our main course after 50 minutes we asked if it was coming soon. Apologies and another 10 minutes another waitress asked before our meal was brought to us. In between the manager came and offered us free drinks. Fish over cooked seemed it was like a battered fillet from a low end supermarket. Burger much the same certainly not quality.
The plates were taken away immediately we were asked if we wanted our deserts. Yes please. We waited and after 30 minutes we prompted our deserts to the amazement of the waitress who said havent you had them yet?
The meal I would say was at best average Shane it was a gift.
In fairness the manger did not charge us for drinks.
I have to say the meals brought to other patrons looked nice so I think they concentrated on them rather than cheaper end set menu choices.
