Every now and again you come across an excellent restaurant like the Art School. Excellent service, excellent food, and excellent wine - not much more to add really…except, perhaps, also an excellent and relaxing environment to enjoy a good meal.

The Art School never fails to impress. On this occasion we booked for the 'Pre-Theatre' dinner. It was truly wonderful from start to finish. We had five courses, but they were, of course, perfectly balanced, and at the end you felt you had had plenty...to eat, but not too much! Apart from great food, it's the whisper-quiet service and the attention to every little detail. Oh my!!More

I firstly must thank the amazing team who looked after us tonight! From the wonderfully warm welcome when we arrived to the good nights and smiles when we left! Every member of the team attended to our every need, checked details regarding a dish and...an allergy I have, checked on us during our meal without being intrusive to make sure everything was ok. Thank you all!! The food lives up to the Art in the name of the restaurant and is artistically presented but not only that it bursts with flavour, seasoned and cooked to perfection!! This isn’t the first time we’ve been there and everything is always consistent and of a very high standard. Tonight was actually my husbands birthday but whilst we hadn’t told them it slipped out almost at the end of the meal and as we had our coffee a lovely little surprise arrived at our table for him!! The restaurant really is a lovely place to enjoy a meal, actually that doesn’t do it justice because it’s a wonderful dining experience!!! We will be back!More

A lovely restaurant, I've been here numerous times for dinner, but this was my first afternoon tea. It was a Friday, and I'd come with a friend. Her first time, but by the end of the experience she was already pronouncing her love of the...place, and planning her next visit. Afternoon tea is served in 'the cellars', a beautiful space, and we'd chosen the champagne option. With a glass of bubbly, our sandwiches arrived. A plate of salmon and caviar, coronation chicken, and cheese with chive. After the champers, a choice of tea, or coffee which then came with our sweetmeats. A tasty selection of cakes, macarons, scones with jam and cream, and fresh fruit that complimented the flavours of the confections. Everything was delicious. And then of course came the cocktails, of which there's a great selection, also lovely. Overall, an excellent, and very relaxed afternoon. The staff were friendly, informal, and always on hand, without being intrusive. I would highly recommend.More

Absolutely amazing evening. Each course was imaginative and well executed. I can’t believe it doesn’t have a Michelin star, as everything about The Art School would seem to fulfil the exacting criteria, and then some.!

Absolutely outstanding evening. Loved the tasting menu, well worth it. Service was excellent, they created the best non-alcoholic cocktail I have ever had. The other half did the wine pairing and loved it. The sommelier was fantastic. Really cool funky room. Every dish was amazing....Highly recommend it. It is a more expensive restaurant BUT we thought it was excellent value for the service and food we received. I cannot recommend it enough for a special night out.More

My husband took me to the Art School for my 34th birthday last night. It was his first time and my second. The previous time I came was just after the end of the pandemic and although the food was excellent then, the service was...a little disjointed on that occasion because I think they were still bouncing back in terms of number of staff. However, no such issues were experienced last night and the place is very much back with a bang. We felt so looked after last night and every member of staff was friendly, attentive and understanding of our needs and budget for example, when choosing the wines. And the food? Where do I even begin. This was even better than last time I came and the best fine dining I've experienced in this country. I say that after being to many other fine dining restaurants and being charged more for inferior food and service. The staff were knowledgeable about the produce and our server even told me which part of Liverpool Bay my sea bass came from which was great. Overall, a fantastic evening and a fine dining experience that certainly tops our list. Where indeed is that Michelin star? This place is the best of the best and I can't understand why on earth it doesn't have a star yet, especially having recently eaten in a Michelin Star restaurant in the South of the country which quite simply didn't even come close to the excellent food and creativity at the Art School.More

How this restaurant hasn't achieved a Michelin star I don't know…..it is on a par with (and better than) many I have been to that already have one or two. The Food was divine - beautifully presented, exciting and so, so tasty. The wine list...challenged and pleased my oenophile husband, and the service was impeccable - friendly, attentive but without being over the top. The dining room isn't at all stuffy and yet feels special - you know you're in for treat when you enter, and a treat is what we received!! An absolutely fabulous meal from the Menu Excellence and a lovely evening all round. And marvellous to meet Paul Askew himself - a great character, totally passionate about his work. I highly, highly recommend a visit.More

I’m not sure. The private dining rooms are not on the main ground floor level. I’m unsure if there is a lift, sorry. Best to check with the restaurant - they’re very accommodating.
