Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stunning building with authentic interior. Very efficient service but did feel a bit rushed when looking to order. Lasagne was nice but for me personally was a bit too much cheese but the tiramisu was amazing. Staff work hard to be efficient but we did...seem to wait a while for our bill. Overall I will be returning & I would definitely recommend to anyone wanting an authentic Italian experienceMore

This is one of my favourite restaurants in the city - up there in my top 3! Me and my boyfriend come here every year for our anniversaries and birthdays, etc. I've even brought my family here for other occasions and my friends. The prices...are worth it for what you get - the portions are really big (sometimes too big for me to finish!) so you get more than enough for your money. The staff are lovely and accommodating, it's a really busy restaurant so I'd recommend booking in advance so you're confident of a table when you get there. Every time I've been the staff have made our experiences personal and they're all lovely even though the place is heaving with big tables. The atmosphere is great and I'll always keep coming back here. It's really sad to see negative reviews about this restaurant. It's very clear some people have never worked in hospitality before, never mind such a well-loved, busy establishment like this one. It's a lovely place with great food, I've been countless times and will continue to do so :)More

A lovely visit and experience at Villa Romana. A warm and excellent service, and the food was extremely tasty, not to mention the amazing desserts! Definitely worth a visit, and beats all those chain restaurants who try to achieve authentic Italian food. We'll look forward...to go again.More

I wish I’d read the poor reviews before we went, it would have saved us a few quid. Overall, not a pleasant dining experience, felt rushed, an example being our starter plates were removed whilst still eating. Mains served within minutes of finishing the starters...😳 It was very much a ‘get em in and get em out’ feel about the place. Food was pretty bland, I left a fair bit of mine. Staff were ok, nothing special or significant to write about them, we didn’t bother staying for desert, was happy just to get out of there to be honest!More

Unfortunately we’re amongst those people only write a review for places when we’ve had a bad experience, so apologies for all those place where we’ve had a wonderful time but this was definitely the worst experience we’ve ever had in a Liverpool restaurant – ever!...It. It began with us arriving for a booking at the restaurant and being kept waiting for a few minutes by a receptionist on the phone – after standing by the door we asked if we could sit down at an empty table for two rather than wait any longer. We were refused and told to wait for the manager. He showed us instead for a table near the door. I should add that the weather had turned wintery by this time and there was a cold draft every time someone entered or left. We ordered our drinks and meals – the drinks arrived but by with my back to the door, we asked if we could move further in the room to a place outside the draft. We were refused with no explanation other than tables had been reserved – our booking had been reserved and these tables were still empty. We were concerned by this time that the customer had to do as they were told. My wife decided that we should cancel the meal and pay for the drinks. The bill for the drinks arrived less than a minute later. We paid. Our drinks had hardly been touched by then so I moved to an empty table away from the draft to finish. Immediately we were surrounded by three or four waiters who insisted this table had been reserved and I couldn’t sit there – I asked what time this empty table had been reserved and was told for 5.30 – this was now 6.30 and no sign of any one waiting to sit down. By this time, the gathered presence of the waiters had intimidated my wife - we are both seventy-four years of age and definitely posed a threat to their combined virility - one waiter in particular continually shouted us down with the logic that we should do as we were told – apparently we didn’t have as much rights as those people who weren’t there - and we decided to leave without finishing our drinks. If you doubt any of these comments are accurate, I’m sure there is CCTV to back them up. We went instead to the Hanover Street Social – with no booking, we were asked to wait twenty minutes – before half of that time we were shown to a table and served with an excellent meal by staff who didn’t mind us being there. Thanks so much for that.More

Have visited here on previous occasions and had always had great food so headed again on a mid week evening meal. Many customers waiting for the restaurant to open at 5:30pm which is always a good sign! The garlic bread with cheese for starter is...soo tasty - all food cooked freshly. Pasta dishes and meat dishes are all extremely good. And for the extra special touch, the dessert trolley comes out with all sorts of wonderful sweet treats to tempt you! Great experience.More

Lovely food and friendly staff. We ordered a mix of pasta dishes, pizza and steak and all the meals were delicious. The Restaurant was very busy even though it was a Tuesday evening so would recommend booking. We went for my sons 19th birthday and...staff were more than happy to bring out a cake with candles that we brought with us. They played happy birthday music and served us the cake for dessert though I wish we’d have had something from the dessert trolley as it looked fab! Recommended if you like an authentic Italian in pleasant surroundingsMore

Visited here for evening meal with a hen party. Staff very attentive and friendly. Great choice on the menu and the food was fantastic, couldn't fault it. We had decided to leave a tip but we were quite surprised to find they had already added...a 'service charge' to the bill which I do find a bit cheeky..they would have probably got more had they not done this..More

I have nothing negative to say about this elegant, professional Italian restaurant. It suited us perfectly and we left in a happy mood. Staying near to the Royal Albert Dock, we had been struggling to get away from burgers and pub food, when we turned...into an unassuming side street and found this elegant, proper restaurant. Although it was a Tuesday, the place was almost full and we were lucky to be given a table. The interior is large and very tastefully designed, using bare brick, arches, large ceiling spans and a colourful drinks-dispensing bar as hints of Italy. The staff, too, seemed to be mostly Italian, providing fast, efficient and professional service. And the food - it was just great, a comprehensive Italian menu with generous portions. I had scallopine of veal, three large pieces, and my wife had chicken Milanese, which we washed down with glasses of Primitivo - the red wine from Puglia, an area we had recently visited. We were a little apprehensive to see that the dessert menu showed only ice cream or cakes. But very quickly our disappointment was dispelled when a three-tier dessert trolley trundled down the aisle, laden with almost every imaginable cake. If you have a sweet tooth, leave space for this! We had a very enjoyable dining experience which ticked all our boxes, including the price, which we judged as good value.More
