Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We called in on a Friday evening and had no problem getting a table as there were several free. Staff were friendly and helpful in checking gluten free choices. The prawn rice wrap starters were fresh and made a nice light starter with both gluten free and standard dipping sauces provided. The vegetable Saigon curry was a little bland and disappointing. However the prawn in caramelised coconut sauce was delicious and well spiced. Overall a pleasant meal and good value.

Service was quick and friendly. The broth both in the Pho and in the Pho Tron was very tasty. Most of the tables were occupied by Asian families so we took that as a good sign.

First time, Liked it Nice staff, interesting food, and will go again. The only thing that puzzles me is the address are we talking about the right place Tre ?Viet as my card from them says 245 to 249 Mare Street Hackney, not 251?

I ordered from this place using their in-house App last night and paid by debit card. The money was taken straight off my card but when my partner and me rocked up to collect our food, we found the restaurant to be closed and a note on the door saying 'closed today'?
I rang them the next day and was told 'uhhh no idea wait til the manger is in'. I left my name and number but no one got in touch. I just about to ring my bank to block the payment but then rang them again in the evening and was told 'well yeah, we were closed and there is nothing we can do. The money will come back in 3-5 working days' no apology, no offer of a free drink for next time or anything. pretty miffed and will certainly not return

Came here for a meal before a show at the Hackney Empire. The menu is a delight, we will definitely return to try some different things. The highlight out of some stiff competition was the chicken and sweet potato curry. This is a must try restaurant.

I’m working my way around food from around the world and I got to say I’m impressed. William was very kind and good with recommending something that I should like. Wish I took pictures but, was too busy enjoying myself.
Thanks,
See you soon!

I found long black human hairs in my duck pancakes. One of the most disgusting experiences ever. Lady claimed it couldn't possibly be the case because the chef has short hair!? I dont care - its not my hair! i have short brown hair. This place has some serious hygiene issues which they are not even willing to admit or deal with.

I am replying to a previous review saying that all the food is safe to eat for vegetarians. Not so. I was told by a waiter, who spoke perfect English, that all the veggie dishes contained fish sauce for flavouring. He was very amused that I had been eating fish all this time as I was a long time customer. I was really upset. He didn’t apologise. You may have asked the manager, but I really have to wonder why a waiter would lie to me for no reason? I left without having food and they lost a regular customer.

I ordered the spicy stir fry chicken fillet. It was bland and the chicken fillet looked and taste like it was boiled and tossed in the wok.
My friend had pho and it came with a side dish which consisted off bean sprout, Thai holy basil, chilli and lemon. Bean sprout wasn’t fresh and washed properly as it was not white and contain the green shell. The Thai holy basil wasn’t not fresh as when you smell it, there was no fragrance.
When the waiter came to collect the dishes, he dropped the used chopsticks on my friend however he was apologetic.
Service was quick though.

Aside from the worrying lack of patrons on a Thursday night, it was a fantastic place from start to finish. Really friendly staff who accommodated our slightly unusual dietary requirements and the pho was really top-notch. Would definitely go back!

Went for takeaway at this Vietnamese restaurant and ordered the monkfish vermicelli (£14.50) and pork and prawn steamed rolls (£9). Highly overpriced for the quality, which is pretty shoddy. Dry noodles loaded with barely cooked veg and a couple of token pieces of monkfish.
The steamed rolls were barely filled at all and also extremely dry.
Bottom line: skip this place and go to Green Papaya which is right next door and also about half the price!

This is a casual place but the food is really nice with generous portion thrown in. I had the monk fish with Vermicelli noodles and hubby has the sea bass.
Am in all a nice dinner. We Would go back.

Spoke to the manager last night.
They DON'T use fish sauce in their vegetarian dishes.
Great food whether veggie or not.

I’ve been coming here for years but was told today that ALL the dishes marked vegetarian use fish sauce instead of salt. Reporting this to Trading Standards. The waiter thought it was very funny that vegetarians had been eating fish. Think carefully about food contamination before eating here.

The Vietnamese food is excellent, the prices are reasonable, the service is sometimes alarmingly fast. Don't let anyone rush you, you'll want to eat everything including the garnish. I've been going here for 20 years and apart from a minor relocation from the original site 50 yards up the road nothing much has changed. But we still keep discovering new treats to go with our old favourites: salt and pepper squid, fresh spring rolls, rare beef salad, and anything with goat.
