Rebuilt after The Great Fire in, I think, 1677, this is a must do while you are in London, take time for a meal upstairs to fully take in the London Experience. There is so much history here. They server Traditional Sunday Roast everyday. It is fun to experience the older pubs in town and this one will not disappoint... More

Hi Bob thanks so much for your wonderful review. Yes The George Inn is one of London Bridges historical spaces that accompanied by a few ales is a great way of discovering local history. I suggest you try our Fish and Chips or Stargazer Pie when you next come for a visit. I hope that happens soon. Kind regards Lorna... More

This historic pub has become a meeting place for our family reunions, so a bit special to us. It is in the shadow of the London Business School with a fabulous vantage point of The Shard (especially when it is lit up at night). This is a real character pub - lots of different indoor and outdoor areas and hugely... More

The George Inn deserves five stars for being the only remaining example of the many inns that were strung along Borough High Street from medieval times. These acted as the starting points for journeys throughout South Eastern England and also for pilgrims en route to Canterbury. (See Pete Brown's entertaining book, Shakespeare's Local, for an excellent history of the inn).... More

We went to the George Inn at the suggestion of a friend, because they knew we'd like the beer, the food and the authenticity of the 17th century architecture, which was true, we liked all of that. What we didn't like was dirty disgusting un-wiped and un-cleared tables, litter, napkins and menus on the floor inside and blowing around the... More

Hi Steve thanks so much for your review. We have quite strict regulations regarding cleanliness and are very much endeared to our National Trust building. I'm so sorry that the courtyard was in disarray on your visit. If you wouldn't mind letting me know the exact time and date so I can address it with our floor staff. I know... More

I went to The George Inn for a lunch with colleagues as it was really close to our office by London Bridge. We managed to book a table for the 14 and everything was organised and ready on time, but then a chain of distasteful events started unfolding. The waitress that served us did not seem really helpful, but you... More

This place was suggested to me as a meeting place for a group of 7 before visiting the nearby Shard. I was the first to arrive at a little after noon, and found a large empty table in an otherwise empty room towards the back of the pub. I was going to be one of a small number wanting food,... More

I ordered roast pork ,partner ordered chicken. After 20 minutes staff presented food asking who ordered the pork and chicken. The "chicken" was a strange pink colour and the "pork"was a slab of meat, raw inside.Accompanied by a nice Yorkshire pudding and a miserly array of vegetables with odd choice of condiments comprising vinegar, tomato sauce and mayonnaise. We eventually identified the meat... More

We walked in for a quick dinner. Staff walked back and forth, ignored us completely. After about 15 minutes, we began to walk out, to which the bartender shouted "Bye now!" obnoxiously. If you value service in a pub or restaurant, DO NOT go there.

Sadly the food was not as good as usual. Ale pie had a lot of gristle which is not great considering the price. Was told they buy it in . Maybe check your supplier? Having said that the service was personal and great as usual so did leave a thank you tip. Desert menu very limited I think only 3... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
