The pub was a few minutes walk from London Bridge station. It is the only galleried pub in London as some nice small rooms and restaurants. Charles Dickens mentioned the pub in Little Dorritt it is also said that Shakespeare use to use the pub.

We had visited the Shard and this historic pub is only a 5 min. walk away. Picturesque balcony in a secluded courtyard. The weather was perfect so we ate outside - there is pleanty of inside seating - we shared a fish platter for 2 which was very good. Pub was frequented by Dickens & Shakspeare

On the doorstep of London bridge station, look up for the pub sign it is just of the road in a courtyard with loads of seating. It was not as busy as i expected, quirky traditional pub with heaps of character, fast service with a smile, lovely fish and chips. If i was in the area and wanted a quick bite... More

This gem of a pub is tucked away off Borough High Street and is a real gem. With Southwark being one of the oldest part of London outside of the City there a numerous places of historical interest and this one certainly doesn't disappoint. I really like that this really old building is surrounded by ugly modern offices and has... More

Great courtyard area. Good selection of beer, albeit quite pricey. Can get extremely busy - we spent ten minutes waiting at the bar at one point. We ate here for the first time yesterday and it was dreadful. Our fried chicken portions were minuscule and the service was surly and slow, bordering on outright rude. The words please and thank... We visited on a very busy Friday evening, but managed to find free stools. The bar was heaving but everyone was friendly and chatty. Good range of wines and beers. I would recommend.

After a walk around Westminster and the City, this was a great place to just relax and enjoy a pint with a good friend. Price-wise, a pint is the same as most central London pubs so nothing new there. However, it is a great place to enjoy a drink. We sat outside for an hour or so until the chilly... More

This started life as a pilgrims inn on the route to Canterbury. The current building appears to be 17th century and appears to be one half of a galleried coaching Inn. It is a nice place to go for a drink on a summers evening if you can get a seat in the yard. It is very busy though and... More

This is a very old pub, with outside seating and balconies overlooking a quiet courtyard. One of the first places that could host theatrical performances. Food is average, beer is good and the courtyard is not too noisy.

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
