Padella, nestled in the lively Borough Market area, has garnered attention for its vibrant atmosphere, perfect for a dynamic dining experience. While its homemade pasta and authentic Italian flavors often earn rave reviews, guests have called out the occasional inconsistency and smaller portions. Opinions on value vary; some commend the reasonable pricing and quality, but others feel that recent price hikes and modest portion sizes don't deliver. The service and virtual queue system also receive mixed reactions, with reports ranging from efficient and friendly to instances of disorganization and perceived rudeness.

A visit to see my daughter and her boyfriend for the day in London. A trip to Borough market and lunch at Padella. It gets really booked but you can download the app and join the virtual queue. When it was our turn we hurried from the market and were shown straight to our table, it was really busy but we were served real quick. The portion sizes are smaller than normal but that means you get to share so we ordered 4 pasta dishes which arrived in super quick time. Pappardelle 8hr beef ragu £10 Tagliarini dry chili garlic & pangrattato £5.50 Fettuccine cobble lane cured nduja £7.50 Pici cacio & pepe £6.50 It was delicious especially the 8hr ragu & the dry chilli & garlic tagliarini. I've eaten a lot of pasta over the years and this was the best I've ever had. It was so tasty and well cooked, go and try for yourself. For dessert we shared Rhubard & almond tart £4.50 and Chocolate tart £4.50 both were equally delicious. with beer and red wine the bill came to £58.50 incl of service. Not bad for 3 people. Overall, Padella was a joyous eating experience with good quality tasty food and reasonably priced. Service was excellent and staff were friendly and chatty. Go eat and enjoy.

Pastas restaurants are trending especially when they specialize in freshly made pasta of all shapes and sizes cooked in different ways. There are many notable pastas restaurants out there like Bancone but Padella is different as it is affordable. It is located next to Borough Market in the heart of a food market! Padella is so successful that they will open another branch at the end of Feb in Shoreditch. In the meantime, get there early as there are always queues of people! The menu is simple and concise. My choices were easy, Gnocchi and the tagliarini with anchovy butter. Gnocchi is one of my favourite pastas and tagliarini is a must because I like anything thin like capellini as it hangs the sauce well. Had Malfade been a choice, then it would have been difficult as the frilly edges hang sauce to it as well. There was salt and pepper available but the pasta was tasty so it was not needed. Water was also provided. Tagliarini with anchovy butter & pangrattato: Started with the Tagliarini with anchovy butter & pangrattato first as I was really hungry. The salty notes really hit me but then it was addictive as each strand of pasta was so moreish. I didn't know what to expect from the gnocchi but when I put the first piece in my mouth I was shocked how soft and pillowly it was. They were dreamily delicious with fluffy potatoes in it unlike other gnocchi which are just firm and lack potato taste. The bill came to about 10 pounds which was an absolute deal. Although I only tried the two cheapest pastas I was really satisfied with taste so I was happy. In terms of portion, it is not big which means you can try more pastas in one visit to satisfy your pasta cravings!

We had tried on a couple of occasions to dine at Padella but long queues prevented us. Tonight we were fortunate enough to be in the vicinity about 40 minutes before they opened and we joined the queue rather than take our chances with the app. So glad that we did. Menu is short but everything is of the highest quality. We ordered five pasta dishes between three hungry diners and all of them were superb and delicious (although we struggled to finish them all). Starters were simple but of the highest quality. Service was super friendly and highly efficient. We didn’t have a sweet course as we had overindulged on pasta but when it’s this good it’s hard not to. Gnocchi, lamb tagliatelle, Stracci Gorgonzola, nduja, every dish delicious and astonishing value for money. We will undoubtedly return.

After waiting virtual que for around two hours, my friend and I were seated and enjoyed two lovely fresh pasta dishes. As soon as we'd put down our forks we were presented with a bill, followed by waiter pushing us to pay and leave, after being in the restaurant for a total of 20 minutes. When we explaned we wanted to sit and let our meal settle, we were then allowed a further 5 minutes before another waitress came again with a card machine. It made us feel extremely uncomfortable, ruined the atmostphere, and had the desired effect of making us want to leave. Wouldn't go again or recommend it.

Hello Jenny, That sounds terrible, and I honestly cannot believe we would do something like that. Can you send me an email to julian@padella.co so we can look into this and find out what happened, and also see if we can put it right for you? All the best, Julian

Having seen people queuing for this for years we finally decided to treat ourselves. The booking procedure is a little complicated - there is a virtual queue you can join on the walk in app but that doesn’t open until after the restaurant has opened. There is then a QR code outside the restaurant that you can scan that reserves you a space in the queue. This is what did about 16:40 and were seated ten minutes after the restaurant opens. We were not disappointed in the slightest it was delicious. Great atmosphere and cheap! Pasta ranged from £5-12 and the portion sizes were perfect. The only thing slightly on the expensive side were the drinks but you are in the middle of borough market. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the only thing that could be made better was an in advance booking system but I know the branch at Shoreditch does this. Thanks for a great evening out.

Whilst visiting Borough Market with friends, we were wanting to eat lunch. One of our party had wanted to eat there before but he said there is always a very long queue to get in. However, it was mid week and whilst there were about 10 people ahead of us we decided to give it a go. One of the staff came down the line and as we were 4, she said we’d get in straight away. Within minutes we were shown a table, the only one for 4 people, adjacent to the cooking range. I think it’s probably the best seat in the house! We could see all the dishes being prepared. Quick hot food from pan to plate being conjured up. We all had different dishes and they were all excellent. Portion size is adequate, accompanied by the fantastic bread. I had smoked eel with tagliatelle, my wife had ragu parpadelle, another had crab, lemon and chilli spaghetti. All very well cooked, tasty and hot. Staff are very friendly and attentive. It’s busy, bustling and has a great atmosphere. It’s definitely with queuing for and we will definitely visit again. I couldn’t fault this restaurant. Well done and thank you

I’m not typically a big pasta fan so had put off going here (despite the rave reviews) due to the queuing process. However, due to Covid they have started doing takeaways so I decided to try it. The Cacio de Pepe was delicious! A great lunch size portion and we must have waited max 5/10 min for it despite there being a constant stream of other people ordering takeaways too. The staff were very polite and jolly too. Combine it with a walk along the Southbank and you have a lovely socially distancing friendly afternoon.

Food - 5/5 Service - 5/5 Value 3/5 as this place really is not cheap. Will I go back? - the small portions may get in the way here... The pasta was fantastic, as was the service, but the portions we got were no more than starter size. The two of us shared three dishes and had dinner soon after we got home. That said; the cheapest pasta dish was 4 pound and: many people do go to restaurants expecting to order starter, main , desert; if one is planning to do that , this place may well be right for them.

It’s ok, not the same magic as the Borough location. Overpriced for what it is- our waiter was really good and working hard, but the quality is lacking. We got a plate of burnt toast and tinned anchovies that was £9.50- they noticed the bread was burnt and didn’t remove it from the bill.

We have to wait for about an hour and half before we get our table. You can now make reservation to this place using walk-in apps. All the dishes here are reasonably price , the most expensive probably their today special. Portion was a bit small, though the price was reasonable but adding a little bit more to the portion will definitely give the good feeling. Taste was good, freshly made food always good. Will i come back? Most likely not because of the long wait. Even the taste and price are ok, but the long wait make it not worth it.

We loved the decor, the service, the locations and the quality of the food plus the prices are really good for london - but the portions are medium sized so get a few to share. Free water at the table - freshly made pasta and the gnocchi was incredible, like eating clouds. We went to the Shorditch one they also have one in Bourgh Market.

Simply incredible. The two of us originally planned on ordering maybe 2 pasta dishes each, but left after splitting every dish on the pasta menu. The moment we took our first bites, we knew we had to experience everything this place had to offer. Possibly one of the greatest meals I have ever had. Well worth the wait in line, very well priced. Sit by the front counter for an absolute show!

Busy Italian restaurant in borrow market. We registered a place for 2 when arrived and was promised to have a table on 45 min. In this time we traveled in the beautiful lively market. The msg was us 35 min later. We set downstairs. The place was crowded. But the food..... nothing less than perfect. We were 2, and we should have ordered 3 main dishes, bc the portion is relatively small, but not expensive. Everything we ate there was good. Service was good and fast and kind. Very recommended.

I have been here twice now, each time the food and atmosphere has been great. The portions are small to medium but to be fair they are priced well for the size. For two people I recommend three main dishes + starters. The main thing that lets this place down and stops it from being great is the service, each time it’s been a bit meh... fairly unwelcoming. May as well be the McDonald’s of London pasta.

I had been to padella London Bridge before and loved the food, so came to shoreditch in the hope that with three people it would be easier to get seated. I have given five stars as I think the food is incredible, however the service before we were seated was not great. I tried to queue using the app, however it told me that I had to scan the barcode at the door, and there was a 35-55 minute wait. This was fine, I was happy to get a drink and return. When I arrived the staff said the queue was closed and they couldn’t seat three people, despite there being about 8 empty tables behind them and them not having closed the queue on the walk up app (if they had I would have gone elsewhere). In the end they agreed to seat me later in the evening, and made me wait about 1.5 hours. This was very arbitrary- I arrived early but when my friends arrived, we asked to check if we could be seated, they said no but then knocked off 45 minutes off the original time they had quoted me… Generally, it felt like the door staff were trying to disused you from going!! Once we were sat down we had a great evening though. Our waitress was lovely, we all had two plates of pasta and it was amazing, particularly the cacio e pepe one. The espresso martini was much smaller than normal ones would be the only gripe I could say- my friend had dessert which was also amazing, and the oil, vinegar and burrata we had to start was also divine. So I just wish the door staff could be more like our table waitress!! Would definitely return for the food

Southwark
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
