A very enjoyable time visiting the pub for the first time on Sat 17 Feb with family. A great atmosphere - clean, welcoming, warm and friendly. The 5 of us had an excellent lunch and were very well looked after mainly by Brian but also...his very competent and helpful younger team members. And they allowed our dog in (but were out of dog lollies!) and he sat very calmly all the time Many thanks.More

If you want to head to a pub where the staff are all watching the rugby and ignore your presence then this is the place to go. We had booked a table for an early dinner. When we arrived staff originally took us to our...reserved table. 10 mins passed and we had to approach the bar to ask for menus ( the staff were all watching screens in the back). We picked our foods and we waited. Another 15 mins staff all stood watching screens didn’t approach our table, no drinks, no orders. We approached the bar the bar guy walked to the other side to watch the screen with his work mates. Time to leave! On leaving one staff approached us and said oh are you ok. We promptly old them we have been in for 25 mins and been ignored! Try and avoid this places. Staff couldn’t care less!More

So guys! I have to let you all in on a little secret about an amazing pub/restaurant I went to in East Dulwich. I've got to tell you all, it was the most enjoyable and wonderful experience I've had in a food & drink orientated...establishment I have ever been to in London, period!{absolutely loved it made our day} I went in there with a friend as she had been going through a difficult time, and just wanted to cheer her up. When we walked in we received the warmest and most endearing welcome from a lady named Olga, we liked the fact she gave us directions and guidance as to were we could sit comfortably. The reception was superb, we were fist offered a refreshing jug of still water as well as a clear and well constructed menu, took us seconds to decide! We had, starters - Patè, mins I had the steak and ale pie, whilst my friend had the crispy belly pork, and for dessert we enjoyed an apple tart and a wholesome sticky toffee pudding, the quality of food will forever be ingrained on my palettes, our waitress Hailey, was so approachable and so eager to help, were very impressed by her food & wine/beverage knowledge, we had to try the South African Chenin Blanc after the delicious food ...😊 We've since been back, and met the landlord(Daniel who went out of his way to tell us a bit more about the pub, and left us feeling euphoric, many many thanks to Dan, Olga, Hailey and the amazing kitchen team, we'll done guys, you've created two monsters and we will be back!!! 5 *****'s guys, I seriously recommend you try it as they have more to offer, cosy fire place, function room, music, and they're dog friendly check it out, chaoMore

The Palmerston used to be the epitome of a great gastropub, but has sadly gone downhill and I think we’ve had our last visit after many meals there. Firstly, I cannot bear cheap glassware but your £11 or above glass of wine is served in...the same, cheap glasses that Wetherspoons use. It’s just not on. The same for Prosecco. It completely spoils the experience. The whole pub was also extremely cold and whilst I’m more than conscious we have an energy crisis, I don’t want to sit in a cold pub. The food was totally hit and miss, and like other reviewers have mentioned, it turned up stone cold and had to be returned. The service was friendly though. The Palmerston has gone through many iterations in the 10 years I’ve been in East Dulwich but something has gone wrong somewhere and it no longer stands out for the right reasons.More

Lovely atmosphere especially on a week night when it's not too crowded but unfortunately the food was very poor. Half chicken was stone cold, and the mussels were luke warm. No one asked us how our food was so we didn't find the opportunity to...feed this back. A shame!More

This charming restaurant had excellent, attentive service with knowledgeable staff. The wine list was nicely varied. The menu changes regularly, but when we visited the house terrines were nice, fish was fresh and well cooked, the lamb sausage was tasty and came in a nicely...cooked sauce. The side salad was incredibly basic so needs some work (it was just leaves with a drizzle of olive oil). Chocolate mousse with hazelnuts was good. Overall a good experience with a cosy atmosphere and reasonably priced (£70 per head with starter, main dessert and half a bottle of wine each).More

Probably the worst Caesar salad I have had. Mayonnaise (not Caesar salad dressing - a blob in stainless steel dish. A few bits of lettuce. Croutons seemed to be from a shop bought bag, not made in house. A couple of anchovies. Didn't detect any...Parmesan. The worst was the chicken. I couldn't recognise which part of the chicken it came from. A few dark brown scrawny bits that looked as though they had been picked of the bones of previous diner's leftovers. The rest of the meal was not great. The fried Halloumi was coated in what appeared to be orange packeted bread crumbs. With a sauce that did not taste home made. The fish cakes were mainly potato, with a barely detectable smidgen of salmon and the coating also appeared to be the same orange-coloured bread crumbs that can be bought in supermerkets. The staff were lovely though. Very attentive and kind.More

This was SUCH a disappointing and frankly terrible lunch. We used to love the Palmerston when it was under different management - excellent food and great service. None of which was evident on this occasion. Not far off a poor school dinner - tasteless beef,...soggy vegetables, everything doused in a thick gravy. Custard that tasted like it had been made from a powder. And terrible service - we were put in the upstairs room, no table laid, menus not brought for ages, mismatched wine glasses brought to the table which were then swiftly removed to be cleaned, tables all around not cleared so general piles of dirty plates piling up, etc. It was really pretty shocking and will not be going back again any time soon. And £19 for the Sunday lunch! EEK. Poor show, Palmerston.More

Poor outing from the off, nice friendly staff but massively under pressure I believe from taking to many bookings on a Sunday and the staff and kitchen were up against it. My starter of terrine looked like it had been dropped on the floor and...had next to no flavour the crisp bread had been cooked in the deep fat fryer and were of varying colours- wouldn’t have look out of place on a cooked breakfast. Croquettes were salty and just generally lacking. Roast dinners were ok but not great cooking in general and oddly roast salmon came with Gravy. Didn’t bother to stay for desserts as didn’t hold out to much hope. Nice staff in general but organisation and kitchen skills need looking at. Such a same as we just wanted a decent Sunday lunch, but on this occasion this didn’t happen, not cheap either at near £200.More

Had high hopes heading in, but very over priced for what we got. Portion sizes too small, and general quality sub par for the price. Don’t get the sticky toffee pudding - way too sweet.

You know what. Never enjoyed a total experience so much as we did last evening. Absolutely bowled over by the service given by the team at this beautiful dining room. Outstanding service by Olga who simply couldn’t do enough. We were a table of 10...and do often you here that big parties can be let down. But not a crumb was dropped. The cocktails the wine the beer and the three course were presented beautifully and with such charm and charisma. It’s not often you get total and inspiring service. Well done to all the few at The Palmerston and thank you.More
