5/8/20 - We three middle aged guys living in Lewisham wanted to utilise the government EatOutToHelpOut offer during Covid ‘recovery’. We had BR on my list of potential eateries locally as it had a high TA reputation in Lewisham although there were a lot of single review reviewers awarding extreme marks (friends or competition).
I phoned at 19:15 on a Wednesday to check availability as it was sure to be busy. They had a table available at 21:00 so we booked it and made our way walking down to arrive at 9 on the dot. We found a busy, still full restaurant and were greeted by a cheerful waiter (part of the family he exclaimed) who asked us if we wanted to sit outside to wait for a table or stay there to eat. The table was small and the pavement narrow with all the local life of Lewisham going on around a little too close so not relaxing at all. We ordered a bottle of white wine anyway to start, a few minutes later we then noticed an empty table towards the back so I got up and asked if it were available and it was thankfully.
We made our way in and our bottle was delivered by a cheerful waitress, by 21:15, served in an ice bucket. We were handed the menus which were full of the usual Italian dishes. We decided only to have three starters, three mains and two sides.
As we are recently pescatarians and not meat eaters it is difficult for me to resist calf’s livers and bacon in an Italian Restaurant so I succumbed! My friend had the sea bass and our friend the spicy mushroom penne. Our starters were an aubergine in bechamel sauce, spinach with butter and garlic, and mushrooms in butter.
I am writing this on a plane three weeks later with no receipt and only a few pics to refer to. The receipt is at home (I usually take a pic and post it) so I will post it on my return. Sorry the pictures of the menu are blurry, it was dark!
The food came in good time and all of it was hot and delicious! The cheerful and friendly waitress offered my friend the parmesan and pepper. My aubergine dish was generous and very tasty, likewise my livers, cooked to perfection, just a little pink.
The restaurant started to empty out at about 22:30 but a large group of younger people arrived to occupy a long table put together hastily. Some of the waiters were very obviously put out by the twenty new customers but business is business and this was the largest restaurant around to cope.
We ordered the bill and with the offer and tips came to £23 for the wine and £55 for the food. As we left the group was ordering, however, our waiter took time to give us a shot of limoncello each which was a nice surprise and said he hoped to see us again! It was obviously a well run family restaurant.
We left at 22:52 very happy and made our way up the hill to our home.

Super friendly staff. We visited quite late in the evening without a booking but we were accommodated for. Food was served promptly and piping hot.
I had bruschetta for a starter, something that I NEVER have as I have never liked fresh tomatoes. However this was amazing. It was likely drizzled with a gallic and herb dressing and the tomatoes were sweet.... this was delicious and im amazed at the flavour
Drinks were a good price and we were even given a generous shot of brandy on the house. Obviously I will be back especially as it's just down the road. :0)

Just went in for the lunch deal. One of us had the bargain set menu (moz salad, veggie pizza) and I had the tricolore and pollo pesto from the main menu- have eaten here a few time since before and just had to have the same dish. Free olives, super speedy service and very nice and relaxed. Super reasonable prices- put it on your list!

I am writing this review with a heavy heart as I really wanted to like this place. We live locally and have been to Bella Roma before for a coffee and were served by a lovely waitress. After reading the glowing reviews I was looking forward to tasting their food. We visited on August bank holiday, which was the last day of the Eat Out scheme and the timing was part of the problem. The waiter was rushed, unfriendly and impossible to get hold of. We we were allocated a 2 hours slot for our meal and it took our main course 1,5 hours to arrive! We understand that the kitchen was busy that day and if the food was great everything would have been forgiven. But no such luck. No parmesan was offered to us even though I saw they had some. I would have asked our waiter for some but he was nowhere to be seen and at no pint he asked if everything was ok with our meals. My risotto was bland, my partner's lasagna dry and salty and my son hardly touched his spaghetti and meatballs and he loves pasta! The meatballs were tough and tomato sauce watery. The pizza was nice so they got 1 out of 4 right. A manager came up to us afterwards to apologise for the delay, which was nice of him but by that time I was so disappointed with the service and the food that I just wanted to leave. We couldn't wait to get out and didn't even stayed for dessert which we had been looking forward to.

Had a very filling lunch here the other day with my wife. We both enjoyed the food which was freshly cooked, plentyful and very tasty. Flavours were good and, apart from a couple of small details (more about taste than skill), the service was very good. The main courses are quite large so judge your number of courses carefully. If you like red wine the Sicilian they sell by the glass is very good, I was temoted to have a secone one.

This is a family restaurant and you feel it the minute you open the door. The decor is warm and welcoming, it smells nice, the place is tidy and clean… waiters/waitresses are just nice people who are truly pleasant and happy to assist and interact, I saw families with young children who were really well looked after and made to feel comfortable, any question you feel you can just ask. The food is EXTREMELY GOOD!!!!! The pizza is thin and crispy and just delicious (and my husband is Italian), my absolute favourite is the linguine alla pescatora that are so good I have to have them every time so I’ve tasted little else from the menu. These linguine are truly spectacular (and there again I’ve had that in Italy many times). You just feel at home and are fed the best. Truly recommend!

Short & sweet: beautifully home-cooked, authentic Italian food that is absolutely delicious. Great service, our server Mihaela was extremely polite & attentive. I had the chicken cordon bleu with a cheese x Gorgonzola sauce with mashed potatoes. The chicken was juicy and delicious & the mash was smoother than a baby’s butt - lol. I had calamari to start - piping hot & again delicious. I am currently awaiting my creme brûlée. I definitely recommend. ^_^
Update: desert arrived! 😍😍 the picture says it all.

I had an excellent meal today in Bella Roma whilst visiting friends and family in Lewisham. We had an amazing sharing meat platter with a generous portion of a range of meats and cheeses. The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. The waiter Rushi was attentive and helpful with all our queries. The waitress Poppy was extremely hardworking and polite with us and advised the meat platter that was delicious.

I have visited for lunch on numerous occasions and have always found it to be a great place to eat. The staff are friendly and helpful and it has a lovely atmosphere. The food is very tasty and high quality. The set menu is wonderful value, and the one I had came with a delicious glass of wine. All the food I have had has been top quality, including the pizzas which has plenty of topping and is cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend you seek out Bella Roma, you won't be disappointed. Jules

We love going to Bella Roma for lunch or dinner, so thought we would try their Italian Sunday Lunch, which did not disappoint. Choice of beef, lamb or chicken with all the trimmings - massive Yorkshire pudding and super tasty vegetables. We enjoyed it so much that we're going to have once a month. Ottimo!

Another lovely evening in Bella Roma last night. Warm, welcoming and romantic. Leo and the team are so welcoming and helpful. Consistently spot on food and good wine. The prawns in garlic starter and vongole - beautifully cooked and presented. So good to have a default local restaurant as good as this. Just lovely.

This is an exceptional little family-run business, and made for a very enjoyable meal yesterday evening. Unfortunately, their air-conditioning unit was not working, and the fan they were running was not really reaching the front of the small dining room, so it was very warm inside, but in all other respects things were spot on! The three staff worked as a tight team, to deliver efficient and friendly service throughout. Music was interesting and varied, and never too loud. Food was great: caprese salad and prawns tossed in a fresh sugo were both tasty and plentiful, then our pizza and calzone were prepared with a wonderful dough and toppings, and cooked to perfection. Really superb. There were many things on this menu that looked delicious, and I’m only sad I had no room for pudding, as the list looked wonderful. I cannot recommend this place highly enough, and when I’m back in the neighbourhood I shall certainly visit again!

We found a place here at the last minute on a Saturday evening, having returned to our hotel after an event, and finding ourselves hungry. We weren’t expecting much but received a lovely warm welcome, enthusiastic waiting staff who knew the menu and wine list very well. This is a simple, family run, local, Italian restaurant and every dish that we had was delicious. The wine was superb too and the warmth of the staff exceptional.
If we are in Lewisham again we would certainly revisit and highly recommend this restaurant.

First tried Bella Roma during the initial lockdown period. It had been recommended to me before by my daughter and we had tried the pizza delivery, but I just hadn't got round to arranging the visit.
Went down there on a midweek night with my family. The welcome we received from the team there was just wonderful. They could not do enough to make sure that things were as good as they could be.
The menu was wide-ranging and there really was something there for everyone and there was also an extensive wine list. I ordered prawns to start and seafood pasta as my main. I must say both were as good as I've tasted anywhere and the rest of the family spoke as highly about their own dishes. Just beautiful food.
All in all it as an 11 out of 10 experience. Do yourself a favour and go. You wont regret it.
