I've struggled to find a decent place to eat around Bloomsbury; it's either chaotic and crowded or fantastically expensive and often not great value for money. Il Castelletto was none of these. It was welcoming and cheerful and I had a lovely unhurried lunch. It's not fine-dining and doesn't pretend to be; it's unpretentious with good honest food, pleasant people and a nice atmosphere. The bill was also about half what I expected to pay when I went in, which can't be bad. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in the area.

There are so many different options to eat, I’ve tried a lot of the meals but the seafood linguine has to be one of the best. There is a wide range of pasta dishes that are incredibly delicious as well as inexpensive. Very cosy ambient and amazing, friendly service from the waitresses. Would definitely recommend.

We happened upon this restaurant as we were wandering around the area. The waitress, and I apologise for not asking her name, was extremely polite and helpful. The food was well cooked. My husband had veal and said he could’ve eaten another plateful. He asked to have a green salad as a replacement for the vegetables, so was surprised to be charged for them. We obviously didn’t read the small print so we’re not aware that it’s a 12.5% service charge rather than the usual ten percent. Having said that, we would go back again.

Had a very nice lunch with 4 friends after a trip to the Nero exhibition. Very good and reasonably priced set lunch, you could choose any pasta dish off the menu with side salad and a glass of wine. Service friendly, prompt and helpful. Nice small neighbourhood restaurant. There seems to be a mistake on Trip Advisor with the orange notice saying it is closed because of Covid still displaying on the restaurants listing, but the restaurant is open.

I booked this venue using my Buy a Gift Christmas present from over a year ago and what a wonderful little gem of a place this is. The outside is nicely decorated, clean and tidy and has a very welcoming look about it. Upon entering the venue my sister and I were warmly greeted and told to choose wherevever we wanted to sit. The inside of the restaurant is very clean and tidy, it has plenty of seating (also seating outside as well) and the decor is fantastic. The walls are adorned with old photos, at the end is a great display of bottles but it looks like they are inside a window frame, the tables are rustic in appearance with beautiful solid wooden tops, the seating is very comfortable with a long bench seat running along the window on one side. Great lighting which was lowered as it was evening gives the venue a very warm and welcoming atmoshpere. A well stocked bar in the corner as you enter. The menu has a vast array of foods to cater for all tastes, the food is beautifully cooked, well presented and has great taste, my compliments to the chefs. The service throught our time was exempleray and can not be faulted, the owner is a very pleasant man who not only serves great food but takes an interest in his clients. The toilets are downstairs and these are very clean and tidy, I did get to see inside the kitchen as I walked past and was very pleased to see it was well laid out as well as being clean and tidy. During out time here it became busy so I would suggest that if you are going to eat here it may pay to book first especially if you are eating later in the evening, all walk in people were seated. This is a great place to eat that is warm and conforting, friendly and welcoming and it serves great food. Very reasonable prices to suit all, thank you so much for a great meal.

The restaurant looks nice from the outside, however food and service were very disappointing. We waited for food for about an hour and when we asked (twice) how long the wait would be we didn’t even get an answer. When the food finally arrived the pizza dough was raw and inedible. At no point were the staff in the least bit apologetic and didn’t even have the decency to make eye contact. Do yourself a favour and walk the extra 5 minutes to Eco Pizza to get great service and delicious food.

We visited Il Castelletto for dinner in August 2022. The restaurant is a small place with a few outside tables located down a street directly opposite the British Museum, so is a bit more out of the way of Theatreland and Covent Garden but only 5-10 minutes walk from both, so much less busy and stressed than some of the eateries around that area. There seems to be a lot of Chinese restaurants in the immediate area around this Italian, so it does not have any real direct competition from similar restaurants. We had a three course meal here, the staff were friendly and helpful and all dishes were served quickly and were tasty and hot. There was a range of wines and a couple of choices for beer all of which were reasonably priced. Overall we found this place to be a nice little eatery where we were not rushed and could enjoy a meal at our leisure.

Canteen fare, with service. Quite enjoyed artichoke starter but our main courses were not very good. One of our party of 4 left half hers. Our guest was polite about his gnocchi but my mushroom spaghetti was soggy & swimming in oil, the mushrooms chewy. Birthday boy had a disappointing pizza - hardly Italian style. Can't believe the kitchen team comprised trained chefs with pride in their dishes that day. The poor waiter, wearing a gimmick creased pulled green tunic, reminding us of a tired old school play costume, added one star to this review. His English may not have been very good, but he responded to requests promptly. Overall in sad to have chosen this place as a pre museum birthday meet-up.

What a lovely restaurant. After a long day exploring London and visiting the British Museum, we stopped for an early dinner prior to visiting the theatre. Service and hospitality was amazing and food fantastic. Definitely a great find and will use again. Thank you so much,

This is a delightful Italian trattoria where we had a delicious lunch menu of an excellent meat lasagne, a small mixed salad, with one glass of wine and one cider. This restaurant is in the next street to the British Museum, where we were going afterwards ro see the very good Peru Exhibition. We will definitely be returning to this restaurant

I reserved a table here for my partner and l on Friday 10th Sept . Admittedly , the show we had just seen had overun so we were 10 minutes late for the 8.15pm booking ( booked online with Quando and confirmed ). However , when l said to the young woman behind the desk that we had a table reserved she looked astonished . She was borderline rude. I said l had booked online . She looked in her book and said there was nothing and we would have to wait 40 minutes . I have since emailed this restaurant with my complaint and they have not even had the courtesy to reply . So l am putting this on here as this ruined our evening and l wouldn't want that to happen to anybody else. If you want to try and book this restaurant online l wish you the best of luck !

Dear Eileen, Thank you for your message, However, please note that the place you wrote the review about is not this our restaurant. I was working by myself on the day you mentioned and I am the owner, a middle age man so there was not any young lady working that day. Beside, we always take reservations and we never had someone waiting for 40 minutes. I would kindly ask you to remove the review as it's wrongfully written. Thank you

A basket of bread with four slices of baguette £3. 6 calamari rings for £8. Service which they charge you 12.5% is very in-differential. The only reason we went there was that I got 50% off through The Fork App after visiting the British Museum. The bill came first without the discount which I rejected and then they applied the discount.

We were so disappointed by this restaurant. The vegetables on my vegetarian pizza were very scarce and the tomato sauce with the gnocchis quite bland. I make a better pizza and better gnocchis. Nothing Italian about this restaurant. And it's pricey.

My wife was staying at a hotel round the corner and we decided to eat at this restaurant. I'm so glad we did - excellent food and excellent service. The guy waiting was a very friendly man from Turkey who was very knowledgeable and helpful. I had a Penne Arrabiata, my son had the Gnocchi and my wife had fish. It was all beautifully cooked and very tasty. Will eat there again if we are in the area

Snuggly nestled within Central London is academic and leafy Bloomsbury, an area that boasts walking distance access to many of London's most popular attractions. It is also home to some of Britain's most celebrated museums, including the must-see British Museum. Despite an understandable popularity with students, tourists and day trippers, vast sections of Bloomsbury retain a quiet, residential feel year round and throughout the week.
