About
Flora Indica is a unique lounge, bar and dining destination in the heart of South Kensington, located close to Earls Court station on the esteemed Old Brompton Road. Flora Indica’s modern Indian sharing plates menu and botanic gin collection, pays homage to the Scottish Botanists who travelled throughout India during the Victorian period, exploring and cataloguing thousands of species of exotic plants, previously unknown to Britain. As a result, the book entitled Flora Indica was published in London in 1855. The design of restaurant is also a tribute to this, with an eclectic mix of Harris tweed, steampunk, Victorian scientific curiosities, teak and a touch of Kensington residential elegance.

Incredible. On par with Brigadiers and Benhares (with a slight edge, owing to a friendlier and less pompous service). Faultless, elegant, creative but not out-of-tradition Indian cuisine. We loved every minute of it and shall return.

Overall, it was a really lovely meal, albeit with relatively slow service (considering the restaurant was fairly empty when we arrived I'm surprised it was as slow as it was). This is definitely a more modern take on classic Indian dishes than some of the...other Indian food we had in London. I really enjoyed the creativity, and the food overall was excellent. The Jerusalem artichoke papdi chaat was definitely my favorite of the small plates. It uses crispy thinly sliced fried sunchokes in place of the typical fried crackers. I enjoyed the bergamot lemon chicken tikka and makhani sauce, however I thought it was a bit more mild and less impactful (flavor-wise, not just spice-wise) than similar dishes I had at other Indian restaurants in London. I still enjoyed it and thought it was tasty. I also loved the dessert I tried, which was a shahi brioche tukda tandoor pineapple. The decor was really funky with a bit of steampunk influence thrown in. This was a great option that was already in the neighborhood where we were staying. It was a nice change from the more traditional Indian menus at other restaurants. I would recommend a meal here, especially if you want to try Indian food with a more modern and unique twist, however just beware that the service can be a bit slow.More

Food was delicious, but staff was so unrelaxed, they could not wait to see me outside for the next guests.

In London on holiday from States. Party of 4 adults and 2 teenagers. Between us we had multiple starters, 5 varied main courses and drinks. Food, drinks, service and ambiance were all outstanding To this point, even my wife who ordinarily does not favor Indian...cuisine really enjoyed the meals. Back home in States have dined at multiple Indian food establishments and Flora Indica surpassed all. Next time back in town would certainly dine here again.More

We are from the USA but have enjoyed our time here in London. We have eaten Indian food 5 times now on our trip and this place is HANDS DOWN OUR FAVORITE! The chicken byrani with the tandoor chicken POPPED in your mouth and made...the chicken mouth watering. We also had the chicken tikka/Mikahni and it had a great flavor! To put the cherry on top, the service was amazing as well!More

One of the best Indian meals I have ever had. Staff were fantastic & very attentive, food was delicious and well worth a visit. The slow cooked duck leg on the bone in a coconut sauce was really good but the highlight (weirdly!) for us...all was the poppy seed & red Leicester naan. Best naan we've all ever had!More

Flora Indica is near to Earls Court. The food is not typical Indian and well presented and very tasty. The restaurant let’s itself down on the service. It’s just way too slow.

We've happily dined here in years past whilst living in London and made our first visit back last evening in nearly five years. This neighborhood gem was even better than our fond memories, and nuanced, rich flavors were paired with impeccable service. We started our...meal with a specialty gimlet each (and tasty enough to compel a second round with dinner), along with a starter of okra fries, chaat masala and lemon. The crunchy strips of okra, battered and seasoned, were "finger food" and one order was adequate for sharing. Our mains included slow-braised Suffolk lamb shoulder rogan josh, deliciously tender and seasoned accordingly. While not a large portion, we shared that as well, along with our second main, corn-fed bergamot chicken tikka. The latter was one of the best tasting, rich and deeply flavored "chicken tikka" meals we have ever tasted, and well worth a visit for anyone who likes Indian flavors but eschews the "run of the mill". We include the red Leicester cheese naan, and spicy creamed spinach, along with an order of rice. Dessert was a kulfi semifredo, a nice finale to a great meal. dinner was a modest 146 GPB with an included 12.5% service.More

I came here while I was visiting the area, regret eating there with average food (looks good) and the service is not that great, dirty windows with dust everywhere. Sorry but I would not return.

Dining at this restaurant was a horrible experience from start to finish. 1. We called in advance to tell them we were running late due to the rail strike on 1 October. The waitress who answered the phone made us repeat our booking 5 times...before getting it. 2. As we were leaving our house the manager called as if we hadn’t called. 3. As we arrived after heavy traffic the manager admonished us that we were late and told us the booking had been cancelled but he could ‘give’ us a table as if we should be so extremely grateful even though the restaurant was half empty, all the while my elderly friend had to stand at the door with his oxygenator. 4. Our table was dirty and sticky when we arrived. 5. A waiter came to take our order 15 minutes after we arrived. 6. Our drinks came 20 minutes after we ordered. Staff seemed to prioritise those who ordered takeaway and those who delivered takeaway. 7. Our starters came after we finished our second round of drinks. They were truly tiny. 8. Our main courses came 90 minutes after we arrived. 9. When we asked for the bill, we politely asked the waitress to take off the discretionary service charge. The waitress then asked the manager to come over who demanded a reason from us. We tried to not make a scene and yet he admonished us once more for arriving late. He seemed clearly not to understand the meaning of discretionary and that even if the service had been fantastic we still had no obligation whatsoever to pay a discretionary service charge, and so we asked if we had to explain ourselves at which point he said we ‘must communicate’ and that ‘it’s fine’ we didn’t find their service to be satisfactory. His arrogance was so breathtakingly astonishing that we almost called the police for his trying to make a scene so as to force us to pay a discretionary service charge. 10. The part that offended the most was the 2 hours of our lives that we lost and couldn’t get back.More

Flora Indicia is a good Indian restaurant in the Brompton Road close to Earls Court Tube. Food was excellent and well presented. They were slow to take away the dirty plates during both starters and main course. It’s not inexpensive but good.
