About
Clipstone is open Tuesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner with additional heated and covered tables on our outdoor terrace. We opened in the summer of 2016 aiming to be a great neighbourhood restaurant and the ambition is still the same today. Our menu has evolved and our sourdough has got even better but the core ambition and the key personnel haven’t changed – our head chef Stuart Andrew has been running the kitchen since the day we opened. We like to think of Clipstone as our most accessible restaurant in terms of pricing and offer – nestled on the corner of Bolsover St and Clipstone St, five minutes walk from Regents Park, with lots of natural light, outdoor tables and the smells of our bread oven wafting through the breeze… We hope to see you here soon

A first visit to Clipstone last night, though I've been to its sister restaurant: Portland, and wasn't very enamoured with that restaurant at all. Still, in these alfresco only dining times, you need awnings and heaters! Clipstone had these, plus blankets. The welcome was much warmer than the late evening London temperatures right now, and we sat under the afore mentioned heaters which helped make it as normal an experience as possible. The menu is fairly brief in its choices but you do get a large amount of snacks which actually turned out to be as large as the starters. For the table then we had Whipped cod's roe & 'chips', Spring lamb croquettes & tartare sauce. My starter was Beef tartare with pickled currants and horseradish, followed by the main of Cornish cod with young carrots and yuzu. Dessert was Crème brûlée with rhubarb and elderflower sorbet. Every dish served was on the whole, pleasant and very tasty. The Spring lamb croquettes were unusually shaped but quite delicious. My starter was also lovely with real piquancy from the pickled currants and horseradish. The cod was nice though I felt there were perhaps a few flavours too many, but it was a delicious piece of well cooked fish. Finally, the dessert, which I'd argue was overwhelmed by the tart rhubarb and elderflower sorbet sat atop. The Crème brûlée was there but overshadowed. For this three course meal, with two substantial snacks, bread and soft drinks, the bill came to £82 per head. Great value for very good fare. Definitely worth a visit but be mindful of the weather right now. My plates were just about hot enough even with us sat under heaters.

Great cooking and service. The mussels are the best I’ve ever eaten (and I eat lots of them). Lovely atmosphere too. This is one of the less expensive restaurants I’ve been too recently (for my sons I eat out an average 4 times a week) and it was the easily the best meal I’ve had in months.

Decided to treat ourselves to a home delivery during lockdown. We were not disappointed! We chose the cook at home dexter beef pie and sides. The food parcel arrived easily and was well packaged with recycle-able materials. The food was delicious and I was blown away by the jus for the pie - it’s was so rich and packed full of a good stock made from the bones flavour. The Wye cheese tart was light, cheesy and soft sweet leeks - we wished we’d ordered more of this! Will be going to the restaurant to try more for sure.

We really wanted to like this restuarant but were deeply disappointed. The inside space is small and the tables far too close together to feel at ease. Because of all the hard surfaces the room is extremely noisy and we had to shout at each other. It didn't make for a very relaxing evening. The staff were all pleasant and clearly trying to please, but the service was really slow and we had to wait a very long time at each stage. We would have felt far more tolerant if the cost of our meal had reflected the cafe-style venue and stretched waitrons, but the prices signaled high-end dining and didn't deliver. For a main course I chose the Agnolotti. This arrived as what looked like a starter size portion of pasta, soft on one side but hard on the other. The advertised cashew nuts weren't chopped inside the parcels but scattered whole around the plate and the dish (the cheapest of the 4 mains) cost £21 and left me still feeling hungry. A few salad leaves are priced at £6 and the cheapest red wine is £31 a bottle. We definitely didn't feel the place was value for money and sadly, as we love the area, won't be returning.

Excellent food and excellent service. All the dishes (from ravioli to lamb) were innovative but exquisite; the service was friendly and young - but very attentive with friendly and surprisingly well-informed advice on wine and dishes. Frankly a pleasant surprise at 60% of the price of similar restaurants.

Love visiting the Clipstone whenever we're in London for some sport. Everything we had was packed with flavour, served in a casual, clean and relaxed setting. Service was friendly and welcoming. Our third time visiting! Chef was able to cook something up for my brother who's Vegan too which he said was very tasty.

Visited this restaurant last minute with a friend and would definitely recommend. The menu is a little small but offers some well prepared, creative food. Good quality ingredients which go some way towards justifying the higher price tag (but still feels a little on the expensive side). Staff are friendly. My only minor complaint is that the online booking requires you to confirm your booking by replying to a premium rate number, which doesn’t feel like great customer service

Enjoyed starters of anchovies & cream and golden beetroot, followed by cod & girolles and fallow deer. All were excellent in taste and presentation. Service was pleasant, obliging and efficient The outside table looked small but was spacious enough and well-distanced. The chairs, being in once case more suitable for children at primary school, ought to be upgraded.

I came here for my first client lunch since March! I was dreading it to be honest. I thought it might be busy, or feel a bit weird with social distancing... I was so wrong. They made everything feel normal and friendly and the food was TO DIE FOR. Maybe I've been eating my own cooking for too long during lockdown but the Mushroom Ravioli was ridiculously indulgent and flavoursome and the texture... and the chocolate mousse... no words to describe how happy this food made me. Thank you for such a wonderful lunch. I'll be back to try to the many other delicious things on the menu!

We were very impressed on our first visit here: excellent food, which at £89 for one shared arancini starter, a vegetarian pasta, a cod dish, a carrot side dish, a shared dessert mousse (all delicious), and one beer seemed not at all unreasonable for the quality of the food. Service was exemplary, efficient and amiable without being pushy (and all the more so for our having been slotted in without reservations on the understanding that the table would be needed 90 minutes later). We would certainly return here on future trips to the area.

A mere 10 minute walk from Oxford Circus is this hidden gem of a restaurant. Had Saturday lunch to celebrate a birthday, and it could not have been better. All the food was delicious, starting with lovely chewy sourdough bread and olive oil, some of the best arancini I've ever tasted and tempura parsnip and sage with a really tasty dip. And that was just the snacks! Staff told us that the menu is short and changes frequently to reflect seasonal produce, and they used it really well! Starters were equally good - salt-baked beetroot was sweet and tender with a delicate goat's cheese dressing and red chicory; the cauliflower and the Lyonnaise salad also got great reviews from my dining companions. For main, the better half enjoyed lamb chops, daughter loved the tagliatelle with venison ragu and my sea bream with brown shrimp in a buttery sauce and velvety celeriac puree was gorgeous. After a short pause, we managed puddings - and they were certainly worth it. Pear and candied walnut millefeuille had the lightest creme patissier, a yuzu and blackcurrant concoction came topped with fluffy Italian meringue, and the financier with chocolate sorbet was pronounced utterly delicious by a husband who isn't a great pudding lover! Front of house staff were very professional, and it was great to be able to see the smiling chefs working in the kitchen! We will be back...

Original well prepared fresh food. Friendly staff. Great to see a young team of chefs calmly focusing on great quality dishes. We had a table for four and tried a selection of dishes. Sea Bream, shin of beef pork belly. All starters and snack dishes interesting and tasty. Lovely quince and almond tart with pistachio ice cream.

We visited recently for a Tuesday lunch and were blown away by the quality of the food. We were the only ones there on arrival, but a few more guests came whilst we ate - it felt very covid safe Lunchtimes give you a changing menu, so what we had won't necessarily be on if we go again. Outside the set menu we chose arancini which was great. Starters were bbq smoked eel and pigs trotters. Normally I would shy away from something like this but glad I took the risk - the trotters were served in a spring roll on a bed of lentils. Very inventive. For mains my friend had a lovely fish dish and I chose the venison ragu - spectacular. It did not stop with desserts either. A deeply rich and delicious chocolate tart, and a perfect sweet polenta cake with fig jam and ice cream Our chosen wine was good too! We were planning to go again this weekend, but will be booking as soon as the new lockdown finishes.

We booked based on the reviews and this certainly exceeded our expectations . We sat inside near to the open kitchen so could observe the chefs at work creating the delicious dishes. The menu is short but has plenty of interesting choice with each dish beautifully prepared , full of flavours and perfectly cooked. The staff are attentive so overall it was one of the most enjoyable meals we have had. I would definitely recommend visiting and look forward to returning.

We had previously enjoyed a lovely meal at their sister restaurant so for our anniversary we thought of Clipstone on their outdoor tables and it was really enjoyable. The service was friendly and impeccable. The menu was short and full of interesting dishes that made choosing extremely difficult. What we had though was fantastic. Excellent wine list as well. It was a great meal made very special by the restaurant and all the staff; thank you for the happy memories.
