There is a takeaway part or the main restaurant. I went to the takeaway part. There is high seat tables in there so you can 'takeaway' but dine in too which is what I did as were many others. Menu is good (less than the main restaurant menu but has a big variety). The restaurant part is more formal. I went with the scampi and new potato. Order at the counter and they will call your number when ready. At 18:45 on a Saturday evening, it was busy but not too much. Nice place. Clean. Portion size is perfect for one. Mine took a bit longer than other customers as I went with the scampi and new potato but worth the wait. So good. Freshly made and presented in a cardboard box like I was at the seaside! Delicious and not greasy. There is disposable cutlery on the tables. Any sides and sauces like mushy peas or curry sauce are an additional cost. Would recommend. Located near Marylebone Station. Not easy to find unless you know the area but worth a stop for sure if you are in the area. Recommended by Time Out. Not too pricey. My difference between a 4 and 5 is staff could be friendlier.

Late lunch with children aged 11 y and 9 y…cod and chips, scampi were all presented nicely and we were seated next to the fabulous fish tank as we seemed to be the only customers at this unusual time! I can only recommend that you save your pennies and head to this place as it was a lovely atmosphere in decent surroundings with a lovely waiter. Interesting decor.

We chose the Seashell to eat because it was very near to our hotel. We were met by a friendly young man who took us to our table. We noticed that many tables were empty but full of dirty pots, not a good first impression, although our table was clear it needed a wipe down. We ordered mussels to start, they were delicous, and tasted fresh. My main course was a fillet steak cooked rare (as requested) I would dare to say it was the best fillet I have ever tasted, I was ecstatic with my choice. My friend ordered Fish and chips (his first UK visit) I tapped the batter coating and could feel it was slightly saggy although he said he liked it. Then to our dismay whilst still eating our main course we were asked to pay our bill as they needed to cash up as closing time was looming I was aghast and did what they asked. To make matters worse (still eating main course) someone shouted "10 minutes to closing when the waiter came to clear I asked if he had shouted the closing information he told us it was the manager. It was obvious that we could not order any further items so we asked for our Coates at that point the manager informed us that his actions had been at the request of the owner. ( can assure any readers of this review that I have not exaggerated any of this) I really would like a response from the owner as to why this is there practice.

Our experience at The Seashell was very disappointing. When my cod and chips arrived the chips were lukewarm and the plate had to sent back to the kitchen for fresh chips. I was there with six friends and their chips were similarly tepid and had to be supplemented with portions that were freshly fried. The Seashell charges an unjustifiable amount for fish and chips and for that money I expect the chips to be freshly fried to order and piping hot; in fact, I would expect them to be so hot that you have to wait for them to cool down. The fish was OK but not much to write home about; I have. had better and larger portions of fish for a lot less money elsewhere in London. When we were there last night there were only two other tables that were occupied: I am not surprised! We were sitting at the back of the restaurant and it got quite stuffy. I asked for the air conditioning to be put on but that didn't happen. All in all a very disappointing and costly experience, and I do not intend returning to The Seashell.

It was a pleasant surprise finding this magnificent restaurant rather close to Baker Street. I wanted to eat fish & chips with my family before leaving London and we found the best place to do it last Monday. Nataliia accepted us without reservation and she was very very kind with us all the time. My daughter had sore throat and Nataliia said that she could prepare her a tea with lemon or anything else. In the beginning, we thought that it would be an expensive dinner but when we saw the size of the fish pieces, we understood the prices. We choose 4 different kind of fishes with 3 different preparations and 2 kind of chips/potatos and everything was excellent. Even we were full, we had to taste some of their desserts, also very good ones. When we left, Nataliia took us a picture with the impressive octopus at the bar, to finish an excellent last diner in London.

A London cabbie told us this is where the locals go for fish and chips takeout. You can also make a reservation in the restaurant behind the takeout counter. What a delightful surprise! There we were served by Jack, who is a one act play all by himself, and Alina, who is a gracious counter to Jack. Let them advise you on choices. They know their fish. We dined on calamari strips as an appetizer, Dover sole ( grilled )and their famous haddock, and chips with several sides. The portions are so large. I highly recommend one dinner for two to share. My partner, a native of England and Martha's Vineyard resident, knows her way around fish. The tenderness of the haddock and crispness of the batter was a melt in the mouth experience. My snobby side had previously reserved a very special restaurant for Dover sole. But was I glad I switched to Seashell It was very risky to order grilled dover sole at this unassuming restaurant, but I was blown away by the sheer size and preparation. Skip the starters you really don't need them. Leave room for their creative desserts. And by the way, the bar wine was generously served and perfect with the fish. If you want a real authentic fish and chips experience in London, go here. you won't be disappointed. Total with tip and wine for 2 was a very reasonable 125 pounds

Visited last night for the first time in ages. Unfortunately it seems they are happy cruising on its previous reputation. The quality has slipped considerably but the prices have gone the other way. We ordered skate - a speciality - however the person serving didn't know what it was! Eventually we ordered Skate and chips at £16.00 and cod and chips at £14.00. Which was not a problem had it been nice. The skate was a middle piece and the flesh was dark inside, not white and fresh as expected, the cod was like blotting paper, not a flake in sight! But the chips were the worst, hard and dry, absolutely awful, flavourless and inedible. Almost identical to the pictures in an earlier review. What a shame, for a once so revered local fish and chip shop. There other establishments nearby who serve better quality fish and chips at half the price and I would strongly suggest that you look elsewhere! Up your game Seashell!

Sadly, after many years of visiting this establishment, our visit on 11th November 2023 was shocking. This was our first visit since the Coronavirus Pandemic, we arrived at 9.41pm after travelling a long distance for what has always been a monthly treat (pre Pandemic). The people serving were not at all pleased to see us, we placed our order including a fishcake on it's own (I have a receipt to prove it) the lady who took our order was asked to confirm our order by the chef, he shout angrily and aggressively at her "No Fishcake" . She then came to us and said, "sorry no fishcakes but you can have anything else", we reluctantly ordered a portion of Calamari. The woman who appeared to be in charge was hostile and rude to the lady that was serving us and demanded that she go down stairs to get Tartare sauce. She was not at all pleasant to us neither, it was very clear they wanted to close up, all be it there was a good 15 mins before closing at 10pm. Unfortunately, to add to this hostile reception, the food was awful, the fish and calamari was tasteless despite being freshly fried for us, the mushy peas and tartare sauce were equally as tasteless, the chips, although freshly fried were a little undercooked. All in all our £40.50 meal we travelled miles across London to enjoy after several years of not being here was truly disappointing. As a resident of Maida Vale in the 80's and 90's, we have been patrons of Seashell since the days when Princess Diana and her children frequented this establishment. I'm without a doubt this establishment is no longer run by the previous owners, as the level of service and the quality of food is no comparison. Needless to say I will no be recommending Seashell or visiting again.

Ordered take away fish and chips for my mother who is 93 and her friend. They waited over an hour, the online order said it had been delivered but had not. The courier they recommended had not turned up for collection and they were still at the counter well over an hour later. All the staff have been so helpful saying she would be refunded but she has not been refunded. I have called a few times and emailed the manager, but am always told that the manager, Natalia, is 'unavailable'. My email was not answered. This was over a week ago. My mother has always loved the fish and chips from Seashell over many years. so sad for her to be treated like this.

I first had these fish and chips in the late 70s because my father was a regular there. In fact, we only ever had fish and chips from them because it was that good. It was a trip down memory lane for my sister and I. We were excited to visit again after so many years. The food was OK. Fish was fresh enough but the taste, not like it use to be. We remember it being much better. The service was appalling. We had to wait for 15 mins for our order to be taken and after that, it was difficult getting the waitresses attention. My husband had to get off his chair and go up to them to ask for more tartare sauce and he found one of the waitresses on her phone at one point, another time she was drinking a can of coke, it was terrible. To top it all off, we were given dessert menus and we asked for espressos. She comes back and tells us that the machine was shut down and we would have to wait for a while for it to start up again. It was 9.30pm at the time so we just paid the bill and left. Shan't be visiting them again - ever.

Firstly I should say that I LOVE fish and chips and don’t object to spending £13:50 for good cod and chips . I have eaten at excellent fish and chip restaurants all over the country and so I know what to expect from a place that prides itself on quality . These are the things that would stop me from returning ( and given that I work in Marylebone that’s a great shame) 1. When people are eating in they do t expect to eat with plastic cutlery. My fork broke twice - totally unfit for purpose 2. There are tables inside . WHY don’t they have the condiments on each ? Any fish and chip shop of this standard needs to have salt, pepper, vinegar and ketchup on each table . The bizarre set up here is that there is ONE of each at the spot where you pick up your fish and chips . Totally ridiculous. I had to go back twice to shake more salt on my chips 3. Finally and very importantly , the tomato ketchup ( one bottle of) was absolutely vile . The cheapest catering type I’ve ever been served. Please add .50p to your prices and serve Heinz. The cheap stuff ruined the food completely A great disappointment

This famous fish & chip shop deserves its excellent reputation. Service in the formal restaurant was welcoming, reasonably swift, and highly responsive. The food is the hero: we enjoyed a scrumptious clam chowder, followed by fresh, tasty cod and chips. A reasonable wine list at good value prices. Takeaway service bar is next door.

Stopped off for an early dinner around 6:30pm. Ordered sausage and chips and mushy peas. Sausage old and flabby, chips tasteless, mushy peas OK. Shambolic service, three staff just hanging about aimlessly, had to wait a good while for the food after paying even though only a few customers and the chips and sausage were ready, just nobody arsed to serve it! Shocking how bad this place has become as it used to be the best. Better off to go to The Golden Hind in Marylebone Lane which is far superior.

We went for dinner as a family (2 adults and 3 children) in this restaurant when we were looking for "good" fish & chips and we were not disappointed! Hearty dish as needed for a good eater! (possibility of smaller portions for children). Points of disagreement between us... the fish & chips can be judged to be "a little fatty" (breading). Possibility of choosing fish for your fish & chips. Excellent setting, very friendly and welcoming staff. The menu of course offers other choices, one of my children choosing the grilled octopus, excellent! I won't say it's excellent value for money, the price remains "London" and brings this ratio down a bit. The comment concerns the restaurant, we did not do/saw the "take away" part.

So far, I have been here twice for dinner and both times we have been amazed by the delectable food and the courteous service. The restaurant seemed to be understaffed as there was only one waiter serving the whole restaurant and trying to get our order in was a little challenging. However, when we managed to have our orders taken, all was brilliant. Service was interactive and there were smile. The fish and chips, by far that I have had in London, were the freshest and most succulent that I have had. We had the Cod and the Haddock. The calamari was also something not to be missed. All in all, the best fish and chips! Worth a visit.

Marylebone
Marylebone offers what so many London neighbourhoods cannot: a village feel coupled with urban convenience. Much of its success rests in its location. Wedged between the northeastern corner of Hyde Park and the southern end of Regent's Park and with a number of Tube stations within easy reach, Marylebone is as pedestrian friendly as Central London gets. The bustling shopping mecca of Oxford Street separates it from Soho and Mayfair, exclusive Regent Street marks its border with Fitzrovia, and cosmopolitan Edgware Road serves as its western edge. Within this enviably situated quarter are an array of outstanding restaurants (from Michelin darlings to down and dirty cheeseburgers), an impressive assortment of independently owned shops, and some of the city's quietest and most pleasant nooks, crannies and cobbled lanes.
