Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

An Iron Maiden fan all my life so visiting the birth place of Maiden was a MUST. Definitely worth the visit. Friendly staff, kid friendly, great atmosphere, and great memorabilia. Ordered the Trooper burger and Trooper lager which didn’t disappoint.

Known as the Iron Maiden pub (where the band were formed) and situated near Maryland station (Elizabeth Line), the pub has been fully restored giving a great atmosphere (including live bands). Great place to go for a pint and the food is seriously good (burgers...etc).More

Great spot for music and in particular Iron Maiden fans. Friendly staff, good beer, and good vibe - with lots of iron Maiden memorabilia to pore over, and Maiden being played constantly, although the system it was being played through wasn't the clearest. Not sure...if this was because there was a Maiden gig at the O2 that night, or whether this is the norm, but it worked for me! Highly recommended.More

Visited here for a couple of hours before the Iron Maiden O2 show, having never been before. Great pub for music fans, and in particular Iron Maiden fans. The staff were friendly, and the beer was good too - mixture of Maiden beers and Beavertown...among others, so something for everyone. Great vibe in the pub, and lots of memorabilia to pore over too - and they played wall to wall Maiden too, though the system it was playing through wasn't the clearest. Must visit place for a good pre-gig vibe.More

Only a short while ago I praised this place for the excellent food and supplying gluten free options that were tasty. I went out full of anticipation of a great night of food drink and music only to be scuppered as they changed the menu...and took every single gluten free option off. Not even the nachos which are naturally gf. Nice one!!!! I couldn’t drink on an empty stomach so had to go all the way back to Westfield which spoilt my night as I did not want to back again and consequently didn’t hear the band. Unless they sort their self out I will put as many people off as I can. Talk about driving your customers away!! I travel from Ramsgate to drink there….. not anymoreMore

Five years after my last review, I had to revisit this poplar local landmark, if not just to check out the new decor. When I saw this place boarded up some time ago, I feared it had shut for good. Happily, that was not the...case. It has reopened, brighter and better than before. Gone is the small stage to one side, and the snooker table right in the centre of the room that seemed to dominate that entire space and - if I am totally honest - was a bit of an intimidating presence. There is now more space for drinkers and diners with new tables and chairs, a brighter floor, bigger windows and a more open bar. Better still, this remains one of the few venues in the area where you can still get Newcastle Brown. The venue itself can get a little noisy at the height of the evening. The volume can be unbearable when the room gets lively, and the wooden furniture and surfaces probably don't help. As I was visiting with a colleague, it was a good opportunity to sample the menu. I seem to recall the food offering was previously a little more diverse than the rather narrow choice of burgers and hot dogs that is now available (see menu pictures). Nothing ground-breaking or eclectic - in fact a rather safe menu. There are 6 burger choices all priced between £8 and £11.50 and 3 hot dogs priced between £7 and £9, and a small selection of sides such as fries and wings. They do strive to appear slightly upmarket by serving things on a slate instead of a regular plate, which I view as definitely impractical, probably pretentious and definitely unnecessary. Now to the food. I went for the buttermilk fried chicken burger, mysteriously entitled the JeMoza chicken. My colleague opted for the loaded dog - described as grilled hot dog, melted cheese, lettuce, pickles, onion, and crumbled beef. Both were served with fries (see pictures) and both were excellent. We also had a side of BBQ wings, which were quite substantial, with a crispy coating smothered in tangy sauce. Very nicely done. We also ordered the nachos sharer - more for its novelty value than anything else. Presentation was great, but the melted cheese topping had cooled and became rather plastic-like. They were simply OK, but not worth the £7 price tag (see pictures). Overall, the food in here is good, just not diverse enough to warrant a return visit, which is a shame. Although, it may still be worthwhile for the Newcastle Brown.More

Popped in here for a brief visit recently. I'm a big music fan and even though I'm not a big Maiden fan I thoroughly enjoyed this visit. The pub was pretty quiet on a Wednesday lunchtime but that gave us plenty opportunity to look at...the memorabliai. The bar staff were really friendly and welcoming so a great experience all round. Also worth mentioning that I lived in the area about 20 years ago and if someone then had suggested visiting The Cart and Horses I'd have 'Run For The Hills' so well done on making it a place I'd happily revisit.More

We had a great experience here! We were visiting from the U.S. on behalf of our Iron Maiden-loving son. The bartender was super nice and friendly and we enjoyed both the Super Trooper and 666 beers. Very cool atmosphere inside and the location was easy...to access from the tube. We highly recommend checking this place out!More

A fantastic boozer and the Birthplace of Iron Maiden. Kastro the landlord is a lovely guy and was very friendly telling us all about the Iron Maiden memorabilia on show. We will definitely be going back, although next time it is our intention to go...back to see a gig in the basement on a Saturday night. Very highly recommended. See you soon 😁More

We went to this pub because of my son who is a passionate maiden fan. But not only he was excited but also me and his sister were very happy to spend a nice and inspiring evening in Cart and Horses. The food was very...tasty, the maiden atmosphere was present but not too much and the red'n black trooper beere was the best. Thanks a lot from Josh, Miri and Martina from GermanyMore

What a great night ! This is an excellent rock venue with decent beer at a decent price and quality food. We were amazed at how good the food was! The staff are friendly and accommodating. The whole place is a rocking shrine to Iron...Maiden - they performed their first ever gig there - but the whole rock and metal music genre is appreciated We saw Metallica Reloaded - an excellent tribute band with affectionate presentation of Metallica hits and lesser known tracks - with their own production on the output. To two Metallica fans we were impressed at the performance and the quality by this fine band This is a pub well worth a visit if you love rock and metal - you won’t be disappointedMore
