It has the simplicity in decor and furniture of a small Italian town restaurant. The smells are the same and when the food comes it tastes exactly as such lovely relaxing places do. It's not romantic unless you make it so. I opted for the quick lunch choice and my grandson for something not on it but both came through... More

The food and atmosphere is authentic Italian and very good. The service is excellent. And the prices are very reasonable, especially for a central London restaurant. It's only a four minutes walk from Barbican station. I would certainly recommend it and will be returning there in a few days.

We arrived just as the kitchen was about to close; but the waitress (boss?) apologised, explained, and took our orders for all courses - so chef could complete before going off. The foodwas very tasty and fresh - we had mostly seafood, and reasonably priced. The meal was a celebration at getting our Russian Visas so quicklu up the road... More

I was here for a business lunch, I wanted a tasty lunch but not pasta, so I asked to the person in charge and the chicken cooked in beer was recommended and I gave a go. Amazon, tender, tasty, cooked well and very juicy, really looking to come back and try with my wife for a romantic dinner. ambient is... More

I keep coming back to Venezia. The menu is large and there are many different options from cheap, quick and simple to the more unusual, from casual dining (pizza, pasta) to more fine dining options (scallops, monkfish, veal, intricate salads etc). Venezia has so much choice and all served with a smile in a an ambient atmosphere, whether in the... More

We have been to this restaurant on several occasions before and always had an excellent experience. What a disappointment this visit was! The waitress twice forgot details of our order (one side dish never arriving), my chicken in white wine sauce seemed tasteless and was left unfinished (drawing no observation), while my wife found her fish less than ideal. Perhaps... More

The food here is fantastic and for London very good value. Everything was cooked fresh and arrived piping hot. We had a three course meal for an average of £30 per head. The pasta dishes we had were very large so be warned. The only issue we had was the bill, when it came there were 2 items we hadn't... More

Bàcaro is derived from the Latin word 'Bacchus' which is the God of wine and intoxication and is the Venetian word to describe a humble unpretentious tavern or trattoria serving simple food and good, young local wines. They are typically a great meeting place for locals and friends and represent a wonderfully relaxed, convivial and simple environment where walking through the threshold leads you to live a completely authentic Italian experience. The menu is inspired by original Venetian and regional Italian recipes. There is no compromise in the dishes, and the unusual ingredients on the menu are not often seen outside their traditional region in Italy.Cichèto is derived from the Latin word 'ciccus' meaning 'littlest quantity', a delicious, mouth-watering titbit appetizers. A simple menu of cichèti is offered along with the traditional 'ombra', a small tumbler of wine drunk at the shadow of San Marco's Campanile (tower bell) from the most exclusive wine list. The 'aperitivo' takes place following the Venetian tradition to drink an 'ombra' or a Prosecco Spritz with Campari or Aperol accompanied by cichèti.

Staying in City of London

Neighbourhood Profile
City of London
From its ancient past as a Roman trading outpost to its 21st century status as the wealthiest square mile in the world, the financial district known simply as “The City” is one of London's most historic and fascinating neighbourhoods. Here high rise office towers such as Norman Foster’s Gherkin mingle with Roman ruins and architectural marvels from virtually every era in between, including Christopher Wren's glorious St.Paul's Cathedral, and John Soane's dauntingly classicist Bank of England. This neighbourhood is also home to some of the finest restaurants and plushest hotels in Europe, in addition to an assortment of of watering holes, upscale shops, and Tube stations. During the week, the City is abuzz with white collar workers going about their business; the weekend sees this area turn into a quiet haven for sightseers.
