Soft shell crab roll was the best because the crab was bigger than what you get from other restaurants. Aubergine was superb. Wanted to try fatty tuna roll but couldn’t justify paying £42 for 6 pieces of sushi but am sure it tastes nice...tried searing fatty tube sashimi instead. Sashimi set seemed a bit smaller than on the photos... Interior is very romantic, suggest to request the corner table under the cherry blossom for any meaningful dates. Pricey, wouldn’t have gone without the October 20% offer. Service was tops, if anything suggest the waiters wear their mask to cover their nose during COVID when explaining.

This restaurant emulates many of the traditional features of a sushi or ramen house in Japan, such as the chefs greeting you as you enter and saying goodbye as you leave. These details, along with a great design for the restaurant, make it a nice experience overall. The staff were knowledgeable of the food, ready with recommendations and specials, and also were willing to take on board feedback and handle it professionally. For example, when we were asked how one of the dishes was, we explained how it wasn't to our taste, but there was nothing wrong with it, but we wouldn't be finishing it. They did not hesitate to replace it; I did not even check if it was taken off the bill as it did not matter either way and I would not have been unhappy to have paid for it. The professional way the waitress enquired what was wrong and checked if we would prefer something else, etc., was terrific. They have an excellent dry sake that they were serving on the day we visited and by being one of the first couples in once it had opened meant that we got to experience some of the head chefs fantastic energy. Food-wise (I apologise for taking so long to get here...) the quality of wagyu beef is undeniable and is always a treat. There was also a special nigiri (seared tuna with truffle crisp and roe) that was excellent but, unfortunately, other than that, the sushi left me a little bit underwhelmed for the price point. All of the food was very good, but the portion sizes of the tapas-style selection mean it is almost impossible to get a full stomach for less than £60-70 each. Combined with the fact that the sushi was creative but not exceptional, made it a tougher bite to swallow. Hot Stone is the first restaurant where I have eaten 'wet' sushi. The hamachi jalapeno roll dripped with a thin (watery but not in flavour but viscosity) sauce which made the rice wet and simply unpleasant. The carpaccios were excellent, and the wagyu tartare stood out, I would strongly recommend staying with these dishes above the sushi rolls. The nigiri is definitely worth your time. Deserts were quite standard with nice mochi balls and a cheesecake that my wife was a big fan of due to the strong strawberry taste and great presentation. I think this is an excellent example of a restaurant with wonderful staff, which uses excellent quality ingredients, and in the vein of good Japanese food, often these ingredients are best when they have not tried to do too much to them. If hot stone cooking is a novelty you would like to experience, I encourage a visit to this restaurant and experiencing it at least once; otherwise, for the same expenditure, there are many competitive locations with better sushi in London.

The typical Japanese welcome and the service are charming and it is clear that the chef takes great pride in his work. The food is obviously very high quality, is well explained, and is brilliantly presented. And then we come to the cost ... which must work out as one of the highest costs per mouthful in the capital. Sublime the food may be but the cost rankles. Perhaps the restaurant should revisit its pricing given that it currently offers significant price reductions on lunches on Fridays and the week-ends and presumably yet still makes a margin?

Was really excited when I booked this restaurant as the reviews and photos on their Instagram/website looked professional and premium. Upon arriving, we were greeted by enthusiastic waiters and chefs in Japanese. Initially promising, we got slightly tired of the enthusiasm as it was continual shouting every couple of minutes when guests were entering or leaving, so we requested for our table to be changed to the inner part of the restaurant (rather than at the bar where the chefs were) where it was more quiet. The sashimi was charged at approximately £5 per piece, so I expected the standard of the sashimi to be similar to Dinings in Knightsbridge or Marylebone. We ordered the sashimi set which came with 7 standard sashimi. It was served in a fancy 3x3 wooden tray with compartments. Makes for good photos, but sadly I cannot say the same for the actual taste of it. The fish did not taste fresh and were not sliced properly. For some odd reason, they served each person a DROP of wasabi. When we first saw the amount of wasabi we were given, we immediately asked for more. They happily came back to our table and gave us yet another drop of wasabi which they expected us to share between two people. I suppose one could argue and say that good sashimi doesn’t have to be eaten with wasabi, but I’d argue to say the sashimi wasn’t good enough to be eaten alone. We ordered the “48hour marinated black cod” maki for £24 for 6 pieces which sounded lush in the description. Again, was disappointed with this as the maki was falling apart and generally poorly assembled. The taste of it was alright, but totally not worth £24. Other comments: My partner doesn’t eat squid - he asked if this could be exchanged for literally anything else in the sashimi set of 7. The waitress immediately said no. Luckily, upon persuasion she eventually asked the head chef who quickly offered salmon in exchange. After quickly coming to the conclusion that we didn’t want to stay in the restaurant for long, we ordered only the 2 sashimi sets of seven pieces and the maki (as above). The waitress nicely pressured us to order more now and not to wait till later to order more food, as they needed their tables back. Am thankful we didn’t order more food, in hindsight. TLDR: With the pricing of the food I was expecting way, way, WAY better quality of food. For £90 I could’ve gone to a real Japanese restaurant. My primary issue with this restaurant is the overpricing and overbranding, not the actual food. Moral of the story is, don’t trust Instagram photos.

Me and my husband have now been twice to Hot Stone Sushi in London. We shared a crunchy hot roll and my husband had seafood mix platter on the hot stone each time. I had Sashimi Moriawase the first time. It was very tasty, and I liked that that they grated wasabi for me on the table. I didn't have that done for me even in Japan! The second time I ordered the seafood mix platter too, because it just looked amazing when my husband had it. It's now my favourite dish! 💕 The restaurant looks lovely inside, with Mount Fuji pained on the wall and cherry blossom flowers hanging from the ceiling. The staff are very friendly and give you tips if you ordered a hot stone meal but are not sure how to fry it. When you enter the restaurant all staff and chefs shout out hello to you, the same lovely way we were welcomed in restaurants in Japan. We will definitely come back!

We dined here using the eat out to help out promotion offered by the restaurant. We chose oysters with caviar, scallops with truffle and two other dishes with either cooked and raw salmon. The quality of the fish is exceptional, there’s a meticolous attention to detail and to the customers’ satisfaction (maybe too much). I found really fun the hello and goodbye of the chefs in real Japanese language. Highly recommended.

The restaurant is great. Food fantastic. Waiters are nice and provide a good amount of information about the food they are serving. You would need to spend a lot of money to walk away from this restaurant full.

I expected better from this restaurant but the bill came to over £100 and we were left hungry luckily we had a voucher otherwise it would’ve been painful. Sushi were all falling apart, black cod maki roll is £24 and can’t even taste the black cod. The 7 piece sushi set for £29 is just pretty but not worth it as I didn’t find the sushi to be amazing. Also the halal wagyu was quite tough. I do like the concept and it was a pretty little restaurant but would I go back again? No!! There are far superior sushi restaurants in London in my opinion.

I went with a friend on Saturday evening and had an absolutely wonderful time! The service was impeccable; all the waiters were extremely attentive, friendly and made us feel so welcome. The cocktails are definitely a must-have. The wasabi cocktail was a personal favourite, but the lychee martini is also extremely popular. The food was honestly exquisite - I loved the aubergine and the hot stone wagyu. While it is on the more expensive side, it is well worth the cost and I would highly recommend everyone to try Hot Stone London! I will definitely be returning with my parents when they’re in London.

The food is amazing but I don’t think that a place with that kind of price should see normal to press customers to finish because they re-book the tables to soon. We ordered a fair amount but we told the waitress we would see how we go and then order more later if needed because we didn’t wanted to order too much and then not be able to finish, to what she agreed was a good idea. In the end the food was so good we wanted to order a few more things to try to what the waitress said it was not possible and we needed to ask for the bill as they had another booking and they needed the table back... I asked if at least we were allowed to have dessert and we had a mochi plate and the bill. When you book you can’t choose how long you want to book the table for. They only give you 1hour time slot option and the service is not quick enough to then demand you to leave so soon. We were not trying to stay there without spending money and I found it a bit odd that after spending £412 between 2 persons so far and wanting to order some more they just politely ask you to leave... I think a place like that is meant to be enjoyed in a relaxed way... not being pressed to finish cause you have another booking too soon after you. I believe they should have time slot options that the customer can choose when booking. I would much prefer paying an extra fee to have the table for longer if I think I am going to need extra time than not having the option at all and then having to finish in a hurry.

I came here from out of town to celebrate our anniversary & surprise my husband with an upmarket experience. I made an outside reservation for a full price menu experience for sushi & hot stone. We waited a while to be seated because waiting staff thought we were on a “Times discount” and we corrected them after eventually being seated on an unstable table. We requested Soy sauce & wasabi frequently because that’s how little was poured for us “because of Covid”. Table was prepared for hot stones before our last sushi dish – which was overlooked by the waiter who took our order. We then ordered again - missing order, and eventually came about 15mins later. We were left with salt & pepper for the steak on the table– yet no soya sauce, which would have been a "covid hazzard" we thought. A further 10 minutes wait for hot stone & wagu which I was disappointed with because the meat was chewy and stringy. When I brought this up to the attention of the waiter I was told this was an unfortunate cut that I got. At that price, my meat should not have any unfortunate circumstances! The restaurant’s restitutio in integrum, was a slice of desert. This was a very disappointing experience and after travelling to London & spending c£150 on lunch I’m surprised this is how they treated us.

This is the second time we have dinner here and both times have been amazing!! It's almost like having a 2 hour trip to Japan. Every bite is an experience, the food is amazing and the pairing selection that they have superb, from a cold Sapporo to a complex Hibiki shot. The one downside we had this time was the service of our waiter, she was very nice, but we got the feeling that we were being RUSHED so that she could clear the table again... when I was clearly enjoying every bite I had. But even with this comment I would definitely recommend this restaurant for people who enjoy and appreciate good food. I would love to add Hot Stone to my daily roaster of restaurants, but the prices are simply too high for that.

Omakase booking made for 6th Sep (5:45pm) Hotstone has left me no choice but to write this review as 17 days after i cancelled the omakase booking, i still have not receive my refund of £240 (minus the £10 you charge despite being early cancellation). Instead of focusing so much in attracting new biz on IG you need to work on your overall service a lot more. First of all, most restaurants would only ''authorize'' the card rather than actually charging monies until the dinner day itself. Not only you charged the full amount well in advance, you also put a hidden £10 ''refund service fee'' in your t&cs even when cancellations are made more than a week in advance. Even Michelin stars restaurants are not doing that, i know this because i have just been to one (48 hours free cancellations) and a few others over the years! So i was rather shocked to discover that i will not get my full money back despite cancelling the day after i booked, 19 days before the actual meal. Communication wise i have emailed 3-4 times without any reply the last 10 days plus try your hotline where most of the time there is no answer. I finally managed to get hold of Paul and all he could suggest is to wait a further 5 days for refund and if i do not receive it to call them back. I asked if i can keep the booking as i havent gotten my money back and that is not given as an option neither. Hotstone, you made me think i am some kind of mad person going into my credit card account ridiculous amounts of times and still the refund didnt appear. Lets be fair, in this 21st century modern online purchase world, we all know it is unacceptable - 17 days without refund! I even thought i clicked into one of these scams where there is no actual restaurant, until i went to read some of your google reviews to know your restro actually exist! At least thats what i believed anyway. I am a customer service professional myself and I write this review firstly to hope to get a resolution ASAP and also for everyone to be wary of such an appalling poor standard of service.

The worst Japanese restaurant in London. We came here to celebrate my birthday, I was looking forward to it after following their social media accounts for almost a year now. We ordered most of the things on the menu, portion was small, which is fine if the food quality is good, but unfortunately it's not! I'm not saying the fish smell bad, it's just hard to chew, even for Otoro, good quality Otoro melts in your mouth, but I had to chew so hard as if I'm having a chewing gum! And the taste itself taste normal, too normal for that price. By the time half of the food came (and we finished those half), we basically sat there for 30 mins without any food on the table because they forgot to serve! One of the waitress had to come and ask us if all the food arrived, when clearly it hasn't. 10 mins later, another waitress came and took away my plates and chopsticks without asking. I asked her "Are we done? We still have sushi and Kobe beef that we've been waiting for 30 mins". She looked shock, checked the order and apologised. Service was already bad the entire time, no single waiter have ever poured us any water (we ordered still water). I was pissed at their service, attitude and waiting time! They have so many chef and waiter, tables were not full that day, and scene was still chaotic! If you don't know how to run a restaurant then don't! And if you don't have good quality food, don't open a Japanese restaurant! Japanese is all about food quality and service! And Hot Stone London has none! This review is coming from someone who love food, who have been to many fine dining or casual restaurants around the world. By far this is the worst restaurant out there at this price!
