Have eaten here several times during the week and found food just acceptable, wifi better . My daughter wanted to have a birthday meal at this restaurant. Arrived on Saturday 1st April 2017 and the joke started. Table position ok. Should have known a problem only 3 tables seated. Asked for a nice red wine for a family function and... More

A specialist restaurant. Steak and cheese. We managed to book the same day. But it was packed when we got there. There was a live band on when we ate, not intrusive to our meal. But a lovely backdrop. Would recommend.

Had a lovely evening here. Staff were reasonably attentive without being too over the top. Steak was excellent and the selection of wine was exceptional. The biltong, stokkies and droewors were very good indeed. We will go back for more meat very soon! Reasonably easy to find although they were going through a return when we visited someone door was... More

Have wanted to visit this restaurant for ages but it's always been closed when I've walked past. Finally found it open and went in for a quick glass of red that turned into the full cheeseboard experience. Service was attentive - waiting staff really knew their stuff and advised us well on cheese choice. There are two cheese rooms and... More

I visited here one evening after work recently with a friend and we had the most amazing night. The waiters were brilliant at recommending wines and we visited the cheese room to try and then select our custom cheese board. I would go back in a flash, it's a brilliant place.

I recently went to Vivat with my partner during their pie week. I can honestly say I cannot fault this restaurant. The service was phenomenal and completely faultless. Always bringing fresh water and checking we were enjoying our food. The food itself was absolutely stunning. I'm usually very critical of where I eat but I can honestly say I couldn't... More

We came here for an early dinner. The food was excellent, fresh, tasty and good value. The wines were also very good. We had a Chenin Blanc, which was good and well priced. We ended with a cheese board (their selection is fantastic) and a glass of Tokaji. Perfect. The service was seamless and the staff very friendly. I recommend... More

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, mainly due to their cheese and wine reputation, and was not disappointed. The starters were excellent, dare I say better than our open sandwich main. I had the special which was beautifully flavoured fish cakes with a delicate sauce and perfectly cooked asparagus. The star of the night was the excellent cheeseboard... More

I just went to a £20 'Alpine cheese' tasting event at Vivat London. Vivat is a quiet, very chilled out post work bar/restaurant with good looking steaks. Unfortunately the cheese tasting is a bit of a rip off. It was interesting to hear a bit about the cheesemaking process but the samples were small. The matched wines were no more... More

Staying in Southwark

Neighbourhood Profile
Even before the arrival of the instantly iconic Shard, the riverside scene in Southwark had moved well beyond any up-and-coming phase of development. For quite some time, locals and out-of-towners alike have loved browsing the boutiques of Bermondsey High Street, foraging through the bounteous stalls at centuries old foodie haven Borough Market, and flocking to the banks of the Thames to enjoy some of Britain's biggest attractions such as Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. Despite Southwark's many popular draws, instant calm can be achieved easily by turning down almost any side street. For more urban buzz, a quick stroll across famed bridges like the pedestrianized Millennium Bridge or the ever photogenic Tower Bridge yields access to the very core of Central London. And with London Bridge Station as this neighbourhood's main transportation hub, getting across town (or to anywhere in England for that matter) is a relative breeze.
