I called into the restaurant to book a table for a business lunch for three people. The member of staff was extremely helpful and showed me a number of tables that might be suitable should we need a quieter area to hold our business lunch. When we arrived we were greeted by a team of really friendly and welcoming staff.... More

We stayed the night at the lovely Malmaison in Charterhouse Square where Chez Mal is located. The Restuarant was pleasant, liked the ambience it offered , waitresses /waiters were very attentive and polite. The Restuarant served continental and full English breakfast which didn't disappoint. Plenty on offer to eat e.g. Danish pastries , porridge, cereals, fresh fruit and compote ,... More

Went for an evening meal Service was amater , chaotic and disorganised (restaurant was empty so no excuse) Wine list is a joke Food was ok but suffered from lack of attention from the waiters Steaks were either over or underdone depending on cut Sizing was bizarre - two of our table ordered fillet steak and one was twice the... Food was great , however the service let it down badly. My table was booked foe one o clock , which is when I arrived , my order was taken at 1.20 , starter was served at 1.45 and main course at 2.30.- Not acceptable for such a highly rated restaurant .

Visited here on Friday with a client. We used the 50% off food voucher from open table so the steak was very reasonably priced once the discount had kicked in. Really nice, thoroughly recommend.

The buffet room is appallingly inattentively maintained. They run out of smoked salmon, for instance, and you can grow a full beard in the time it takes them to replenish the supply. They boast of their artisanal bread, and then make available only this ghastly cake-like stuff.

My brother in law had a birthday here this week. There were party of 11 of us. Service and staff were great. The food was tasty but not very hot and we waited a little too long for it. The Rump steak my husband had was a little tough however the peppercorn sauce that accompanied it was divine which we... More

Description
A seductive and seriously sexy bar and brasserie based in the famous Charterhouse Square, the Malmaison Brasserie is beautifully chic and contemporary, with mood enhancing down lighting and a lively atmosphere. With the a la carte menu changing seasonally, the wholesome, modern British cuisine is always first class. Alongside a separate menu of locally produced food, the extensive wine list reflects the brassiere's 'serious about wine' culture and will indulge your every need. The laid back bar area is popular with business folk looking to chill out after work over a few beers and cocktails, whilst the restaurant offers plenty of cosy corners and nooks for private chats. The Malmaison Brasserie is also a great choice for groups with semi-private vaults and a fabulous private dining room overlooking the brasserie. Coupled with the friendly, knowledgeable serving staff, an evening here will undoubtedly be a huge success.

Staying in Clerkenwell

Neighbourhood Profile
Clerkenwell
Owing to its proximity to Smithfield Market – the site of an ancient meat market which remains in operation today – Clerkenwell boasts a plethora of globally renowned restaurants, fabulous local eateries, and some of London's favorite pubs. This isn't merely a focal point for all things foodie though. Spend enough time wondering through the area's maze of streets and you might become accustomed to the litany of slinky models passing between Clerkenwell's handful of fashion houses. Far outnumbering the models are craftspeople and designers, many of them are more than happy to welcome visitors into their studios and showrooms.
