De Amicis Ristorante Italiano
Review
About
What you love about Italy is here in Notting Hill. This storefront restaurant offers the charm, warmth, and friendliness of the Italians as well as their unsurpassed cuisine in a dining room that is welcoming to all. The menu is classic Italian, with starters of prosciutto and melon, pizzas, pastas like traditional lasagne al forno, main of veal piccata in butter and lemon sauce, and pudding of zabaglione for two. Linger over a bottle of wine and then the superb coffee. The decor is low-key and comfortable and they won’t throw you off the table if you’re enjoying a long meal.

Excellent Italian restaurant with some more unusual items on the menu. We had a superb Stracciatella.... had not seen it on a menu for years. The entrecote steak with pepper sauce was generous and gorgeous, cooked rare just as we requested. Vegetables al dente included in the price. Service charge added - very happy to pay it: our waitress was very helpful and pleasant.
We are already looking forward to returning here.

Friendly welcome and very efficient service chef came to talk to us and make us feel welcome. I ordered the the liver (fageto) which was deliciously cooked and my friend had pasta which was equally good. We will definitely be going back.

Second visit here. Tonight I asked for the Beal Picatta however I wanted a side of short pasta with tomato sauce and they obliged. The plate was delicious. I would have given 5 stars except that they did not offer bread (a sin in Italy) and the picatta portion was smallish. Still, a great place to savor good Italian cuisine.

We came for a family meal - booked mentioning we were using a Tastecard with 2 for 1 offer. We chose off the main menu where main dishes were all priced at more than 20 pounds. When we started ordering the waitress said dishes over 20 pounds don't get included in the Tastecard offer of 2 for 1. So we changed two of fhe orders to dishes from the "cheaper" (13 pounds) pasta section of the menu. The food was disappointing and the pasta sauce far too salty. The puddings were then an additional 7.50 just for three scoops of ice-cream for children. The final bill was much more than anticipated on booking. The service had been good but overall I felt that we had been overcharged for canteen standard food.

Dear AFBVa
Thank you for your review and dining with us yesterday. Your feedback is important and we take it seriously. I would like to put some context to your review which is on the whole unfortunately rather negative and focused on how expensive it was which left a bitter taste in the mouth.
When discovering us on Tastecard you will have noticed that it is quite clearly stated that dishes over £20 are not part of the 2for1 offer leaving you with plenty of choice from all our starters, pizza, pasta and chicken dishes which are in the “mains Section “ (making your review inaccurate).
Despite this you still made the free choice of opting for a 10oz sirloin steak which at £23.50 including sides is expensive but standard for central London. You could have chosen the chicken at £17 and got yourself a second for free but decided not. Our prices are clearly stated online, in our window display and on our menus and to suggest you were surprised by the bill quite frankly I find rather puzzling. I apologise whole heartedly if your child’s dish was too salty and we would have rectified the problem had it been raised.
Best wishes
Marco

Myself and my husband just had a weekend in London. We were staying a short walk from this restaurant and kept walking past saying how cute and authentic it looked, so last night about 9pm, we decided to go in. The staff were really nice and friendly and also accommodated my dairy allergy by taking cream out of a pasta dish, my husband had pepperoni pizza. Disapqpointingly, both dishes were so bland, no fresh herbs used, and no flavour really to them at all. Not what you expect from an authentic Italian restaurant.
By about 10.30pm as we were finishing our wine, people were still eating, and the staff were walking through the restaurant with bags and boxes of rubbish,l to dispose of, we were sat by the door, it was cold and wet so not pleasant whilst they propped the door open to do this, this should be done when the restaurant is closed, this really wasn't great. Then the door opened again whilst they brought in the tables and chairs from outside and folded them up inside, making you feel like you were really being pushed out, it was all the most uncomfortable experience to be honest. Such a shame, they have a few things to work on In this restaurant, the quality of the food being a huge one in our opinion.

We were very pleased to happen in and find an empty table. It was like finding a gem. We now visit at least once every time we are in town. It is small and fills soon after opening. They do take reservations and if you arrive an hour after opening you may need to wait. The food is beautiful and consistent. We have never been disappointed with the flavors or service. If you see a dessert you want, reserve it early as they do sell out. The small space is perfect for a relaxing meal.

We had the burrata starter which was very nice and then my wife had the crab spaghetti and I think they forgot the crab! Must have been cooked in stock, there wasn’t any sign of crab. I had pannacota for dessert which had far too much gelatine and was inedible.
Combined with service from one guy asking “we’ll do you want anything” when asking if we want dessert and a lack of smiles generally it’s safe to say we don’t be back

Visited for dinner yesterday while wandering in the Bayswater/ Notting Hill area.
Very friendly service and tasty garlic bread to start then vegetable fusilli and spinach ravioli. Both good portions and tasty.
A real, neighborhood-feeling Italian restaurant with good, moderately priced dishes.

Finally got to visit this fabulous Italian restaurant and have found what I have been missing in London. If it is authentic Italian food you are looking for, then look no further! Visited De Amicis with my boyfriend. It's a lovely rustic restaurant with a homely welcome. Staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful. Food was quickly served with the owner visible and working hard in the kitchen. Each course was full of flavour and perfectly finished. We left the restaurant feeling full but not sluggish Might have been my first visit but definitely not the last! Would highly recommend.

The service is excellent, friendly and fast. about the food is a very home experience...leaves the feeling of being in a familiar place. The dish I ordered was very good for me, including dessert (they have been able to take care of a recent gluten allergy, without losing the exquisite flavors, especially in dessert). The atmosphere is nice, it is a small place and therefore makes it very warm.

Went there based on reviews, and indeed this place has good Italian dishes. It's relative small restaurant that does not feel touristic, so that is a nice change in London (near Hyde Park). I had the veal liver, and my wife the (special) veal steak with peppercorn sauce; both very tender, and tasteful. I definitely recommend this place.

Whilst staying at a nearby hotel, we decided to give this independent Italian a try on a Tuesday night. We weren't disappointed, as evidenced by the full venue! Super home made ravioli was just delicious, accompanied by great Italian wine, for not horrible money. Unexpectedly excellent, worth a try if you're in the area.

We have visited this lovely Italian restaurant many times over the years so it seemed the ideal place to celebrate a significant birthday with a large group of family and friends.
For some of the group De Amici's is like a reliable old friend whilst for many it was a first visit. Marco did so much to ensure the evening went smoothly and the wine flowed! We'd chosen a nice selection of items from the menu and each one was great.
We took over more than half the restaurant on a busy Saturday evening but nothing was too much trouble for the staff who made it a very special and memorable evening.
I can recommend this lovely restaurant without hesitation.

Visited whilst staying at a nearby hotel.
Pasta looked and had texture like it was shop bought from local supermarket market. Then when I had finished my meal I noticed a tub of what looked like pre cooked chilled pasta in the fridge. This is not what I would have expected from an 'authentic Italian' restaurant.
The bruscheta was OK. Tomatoes used tasted bland, didn't taste of a rich fresh vine tomato. No olive oil on the bread. It felt a bit lazy from the chef.
The team were attentive as a solo diner.
Service was quick, maybe too quick?
In all, it was expensive for the level of quality. If I was in a rush or needed a quick bite. Yes I'd go back but would not take friends to impress.

As West London's friskiest corner, Notting Hill more than manages to retain plenty of the same appeal that's brought the affluent area so much worldwide attention. In this attractive cobblestoned neighbourhood, a delectable variety of eateries, independent shops, galleries and street vendors offer a delightful window into how to live the good life in London, with each presenting visitors with an experience that's a little more idiosyncratic and endearing than the last.
