Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had a simple but delicious prie fixe lunch here. Steak with frites, salad, and a glass of wine. Sounds like the usual fare, right? What was unique was how delicious everything was. A great cabernet, perfectly prepared steak, and the best salad I've had...in 5 weeks of travel. Plus a view of the river, the Tate, and the Globe Theatre.More

High Timber would be better suited as a wine bar rather than a dining establishment. My recent visit left me with mixed feelings. Their menu regrettably offers a rather meager selection for the discerning palate. While their biltong remains tasty and the wine selection offers...quality options, the lack of soul and warmth, and a pinch of consumption bullying from the hostesses detract from the overall enjoyment of the dining experience.More

Excellent food and good atmosphere even on a Monday night. Lovely location but a bit hard to find. Easy to walk along the river afterwards to get to Waterloo. Service was a bit slow but we were a large group of about 20 people

We had a very good lunch at this contemporary South African accented restaurant in the City of London. There is plenty of beef on the menu, but also other meats and some fish and vegetable dishes. The outdoor tables have excellent views overlooking the river...Thames. Friendly and professional service. Prices reflect the location and quality.More

Business dinners usually get rated on a different scale, but High Timber rates at the top on any scale. The space was large and not too noisy. We were offered a regular menu with many choices, and my steak was excellent. Others were also very...happy with their meals. Service was excellent as well.More

High Timber was recommended by a colleague, so off we went. We loved the location and the wine cellar and the food was terrific. I have to say possibly one of the best gnocchi dishes I’ve ever had. The South African wine list is vast...& service was spot on. Definitely worth a visit on the way too or from the Tate.a perfect long lunch spot.More

Excellent ribeye steak. Dessert was a liqueur milkshake that scores 10/10. Friendly staff, and we got given sunscreen - lovely touch.

We were really looking forward to this restaurant having read all the rave reviews, and was especially interested in the South Africa influence having strong connections with SA and being particularly familiar with Jordan wines which feature heavily on the wine list. The setting is...lovely with views across the river, and no question the food is good quality, however overall we came away feeling disappointed. We eat out a lot in London but felt genuine hospitality here was lacking from Neleen and her team. There was actually an abundance of staff members but this resulted in over attentive service, feeling like there was a waiter/waitress at our table every other 5 minutes. And, whilst recognising that this is a higher end restaurant and therefore knowing this would be reflected in the price, we still felt value for money was lacking. The menu on the website should also be updated with the new menu (and it’s increased prices) that you are handed in person. Before our visit I was already intending a return visit with my South African partner, we will however be going elsewhere - where we know a better overall dining experience is to be had.More

I have been here maybe 10 times in the last 10 years. It is still just as great as ever, with the same delightful welcome from the owner and the same fabulous steaks and wine. Amazing views on the lovely terrace. On a sunny day..., summer or winter, this restaurant makes you feel so relaxed and in a good mood!! Best restaurant in the square mile!!More

First the good bits - excellent food, we all had ribeye steaks and the quality of both meat and cooking was impressive. We were pleased with the limited menu, as less if often more. The bit that left us uncomfortable (and questioning if we would...return) was the overly attentive service. We were constantly asked if we were ready to order drinks, then order food, and whether we’d been told about the specials, by three different waiters. There was no reading of the mood or needs of the table, and we tried to laugh it off rather than complain - we know that hospitality deserves more than a chance post covid. But the constant interruptions felt too much - not even approaching the table and waiting for us to stop talking before speaking, but talking over us to interrupt - didn’t feel pleasant. Also taking the unfinished wine bottle away to a table in the middle of the restaurant was strange - we could have topped ourselves up, read the label, enjoyed the wine - rather than having our glasses go empty and having to wait for a waiter to become free. Just needs some smoothing of the edges and this would be a hidden gem.More

We had lunch here last week. We had not booked and there was only one available table outside but as we felt the outside area was a little lacking in atmosphere we were quite happy to sit inside. The menu was fairly brief but very...good and both the quality of the food and the presentation were excellent. The salad dressing was especially noteworthy. Next time we are in London we’d like to return with the rest of the family who also love good food.More

The service was excellent - efficient, attentive and friendly. A good choice of South African wines at very good prices. The food was very good indeed and well presented. We shall be returning for one of their special wine dinners.

It was my first visit and it’s decent. Little tricky to find as you need to walk down High Timber to get access, the other local streets leading to the river Thames don’t have a riverside path. A decent wine list range from £40 to...whatever you want to pay. Good selection and as you’d expect South African which is all good. For starters I had salmon which was full of flavour and a decent portion. For main we (there were 3 of us) had a medium rare rib which came sliced accompanied by some creamy spinach, mushroom and Brussels sprouts with Ndjua. The steak came with chips which were a bit disappointing as dried and tasteless. The cheese board was lovely, three decent cheeses with chutney and some delicious crackers. Service was great and we weren’t rushed at all.More

Fantastic little find on the river Thames near the millennium bridge. Friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate us. A well thought out wine list that complimented the best burger I have had in a long, long time. Possibly ever! Can’t recommend...it enough. The river view is also a big bonus.More
