About
Mabels Tavern is a traditional English pub with a variety of different ales but emphasis is placed on a varied food menu. The ales are highly regarded and have regularly won awards from CAMRA.Mabel's Tavern apparently takes its name from a local woman, Mabel Macinelly who was born in Dublin, Ireland. She married into the family who owned Hamilton House in Mabledon Place and became Mabel Hamilton. Not much information is known about Mabel except that she owned a cat called Felix and she died in the 1970s. Since her death she has been known to revisit the pub and on one occasion she called the landlady's name repeatedly in the early hours of the morning. She has also been known to operate the dumb waiter that used to stand in the pub - this is a little eerie as the dumb waiter was ripped out of the pub several years ago. The occupants have heard it in operation in the early hours of the morning but when they investigated there was nothing to be seen.It has also been said that Mabel had a grandaughter who has recently visited the Tavern when researching her family. If you know anything about Mabel and her life in Dublin or London we would be fascinated to hear from you.

I haven't visited Mabel's Tavern for many years, possibly as long as a decade ago. However, seeing it was still a Shepherd Neame pub, I decided to chance it, being in the area; I wasn't disappointed. A typical corner-pub, Mabel's Tavern is set back a little from the hurly-burly of King's Cross. It has a well-maintained exterior, and the interior is spotless. There are some screens showing sport, but it doesn't have that dodgy feel of a 'big screen' pub. The cask ale range is Shepherd Neame with Spitfire, Masterbrew, Late Red and Whistable Bay all on. I sampled the first three, and all were in good condition; I also caught a glimpse of the manager sampling a new line after a cask change: always a good sign. The food is pricey (£17.50 for haddock and chips), but this is probably about par for the area. The staff are friendly, competent and knowledgeable. The pub started filling up towards the end of my visit, so it's obviously popular. It's well worth a visit, if you're waiting for a train, a devotee of Shepherd Neame beers, or simply want to enjoy a pleasnt drink with some friends.

Went primarily to sample the Shepherds Neame brews which I don't often come across and was happy with these. Food menu was not just the pub classics, some more unusual fare as well & was tasty but a few items weren't available, more than I would have expected. Small ( human) error with our order but this was sorted out with no fuss and welcome, but unnecessary, compensation offered. Friendly atmosphere and busy but not overly so. Ultimate mark from reviewers point of view is that my wife wants to go back the next time we are in London - this is an accolade very rarely bestowed.

Thank you for the review, are are very glad to gain your wife's approval! We have a new menu launching very soon (hence the limited quantity of some menu items at the moment) so please do come back and try some of our new dishes!

Was not expecting anything fancy but I really didn’t expect my overpriced cheese sandwich to be on stale grocery store white bread. Food was a great disappointment. However, the staff was friendly and the atmosphere is nice. The bathrooms were also clean. Good place for a drink but I wouldn’t recommend eating here.

I'm visiting from America and this is my idea of a London pub. It wasn't far from our hotel, so we picked it. The employees are friendly and helpful, the menu has good sturdy English foods (fish & chips, meat pies, etc.), and it's noisy. Do not expect a quiet environment: people are enjoying themselves and the food and the atmosphere. There's a plaque outside giving a bit of info on who Mabel was and when she lived, and also that there are unexplained noises in the early hours. But we're in London: it's laden with specters. We strongly recommend Mabel's Tavern.

We found this little gem by googling restaurants near Euston station! The food is top quality and freshly prepared. Husband enjoyed his (large) fish and chips whilst I had a delicious tender steak with peppercorn sauce. Skin on fries and salad were perfect accompaniments. We will definitely return here on our annual trip to London by rail! It got really busy so you may want to book ahead.

Quiet street and great place to stop in for a pint. Found out they have recently started offering Sunday roast again. We have eaten a lot of Sunday roasts, 3x per month for last 12 months we have lived in UK. We ate the chicken roast here and it was fall off the bone fabulous. Some of the best roast chicken I have had in a long time with great sides and amazing gravy (not so heavy and starchy as most are). Definitely recommend for a Sunday lunch.

We ate here about 7 years ago when staying in London. After a long flight we thought we’d try it again for supper. Apparently, they were out of the meal we wanted to order. So, checked the menu again. Ordered again. Whoops that was from the lunch menu, no longer serving. HOWEVER, the server appealed to the chef (against the advice of the other server who said he won’t make an exception because the chef is in a bad mood.) Happily she was wrong! Got our order and btw chips are amazing here.

We popped in for a quick meal and we weren't disappointed. We chose the small cod and chips priced at about £8 and it was more than adequate. The batter was crispy, the fish was tender and the chips were fluffy on the inside. It was also served with peas and a delicious tartare sauce.

I have been here on two separate occasions, once traveling with my wife and once on a business trip. It's conveniently near St Pancras, so it's an easy stop if you're traveling by train. The food is solid pub food - perfectly good if not spectacular, and the draught selection is excellent. Prices are fair, and service is as expected or a bit better. I'll certainly return next time I'm in London

What a great, friendly neighborhood bar! Mabel's is very nice, comfy place with very friendly servers, good cocktails, great fish plus they allowed our little pup to come n with us. We came here several times on our stay in the area and will probably come here again before we leave. Our faves are simple - the 'best ever fish fingers' sandwich w/o the bread, and the onion rings making this meal our own version of fish and chips. Deeelish! The best we have had in London. Go!

We often stay reasonably close to Mabel’s when we come to London but we have never previously been in. It has always been busy, the menu had seemed it would be ok, we had looked at the reviews since our last visit to London so today we took the plunge, having enquired and found out they took bookings. For us there was only a positive experience. The staff when we were booking were very nice, pointing out that there might be a lot of football supporters when we came to eat. There were, including some Scandinavians. But there were no problems. We had a course each, with my wife going for the chicken whilst I chose the chickpea Dahl with cauliflower Dahl, nicely spiced. We found the food good, it looked nice , we would enjoy choosing the same dishes and would recommend this as a worthwhile eating place to try. Nice staff. Nice food. Nice drinks.

An interesting place. Pleasant staff, nice environment. However, I wasn’t impressed by the beer. We started with Master Brew, as the Whitstable Bay was off. It wasn’t to my taste. On the next round, the Whitstable Bay was back on so three of us had that. It was cloudy and slightly vinegary. OK, but not ideal. Two of us ordered fish, chips and peas. The fish was OK. I’ve no idea whether it was cod or haddock as, contrary to advertising regulations, it wasn’t specified. The chips were clearly McCains’ frozen chips. No problem with that but they served up far too many. Maybe that’s not a bad thing to some. One of us had ham, egg & chips and was happy with it and another enjoyed the pie and mash. So, there you are. Not unpleasant but not somewhere I would be rushing back to.

We went here on a Saturday afternoon, first meal in London ever and of course I ordered fish and chips and my bf ordered a burger, and two beers. Everything was good, the batter of the cod was crunchy, the fries and the homemade dip were amazing. Prices are normal and we liked the chill vibes of this place. Staff was friendly

Not particularly busy when we visited, but even allowing for Covid restrictions (which where not we'll managed - eg a queue of people close together at the door waiting to sign in) the service was epically slow. The prices are also high, even by central London standards. Better places to eat/drink in the vicinity I'm afraid.

Having arrived at Euston Station and on our way to Wembley to watch Sunderland win the Play-Off final we stopped off a ta few pubs en-route, all of which were packed with SAFC fans enjoying the occasion. I have to say that this was my favourite of them all. Just off the main road which mean there were no issues with standing outside and lovely to have a glass of beer rather than a plastic cup of beer. Staff were great, atmosphere were amazing and getting served was fair and quick despite how busy it was. A great looking pub inside and out, will definitely go back next time I am down south for a match.
