About
Trends have come and gone on London’s iconic Kings Road, but one jewel remains in the crown that is the World’s End, the restaurant known as La Famiglia. Created by the godfather of Italian chefs, Alvaro Maccioni, it first opened forty five years ago. This is as authentic cuisine as anyone will get outside of Tuscany. Family is the concept which binds La Famiglia. From the chef, to Alvaro’s own daughter, Marietta, everyone helps to ensure the restaurant is up to her papa's impossible high standards.

La Famigila was recommended to me by a friend and I tend to go with a friends recommendation as you can’t really go wrong. A group of three of us arrived and were sat close to the door however, given the inclement weather we found one of our party kept getting draughts of cold air and their chair knocked every time the door opened, given the position of the table. Without us needing to ask the young waitress swooped in and advised she was preparing another table for us, we were delighted with his level of service and attention to their customers. We were seated in a highly decorated area, which really suited its environment, we were blown away. As for the food? Sensational. I’m a real lover of Italian food and you could tell that the staff at this restaurant really care about what they’re doing. We had a couple of dietary requirements for which they catered for without any fuss. Overall, a fantastic visit and we’ll definitely be returning!

A Chelsea institution that I hadn’t been to for many years. Always nice in the summer when they open the courtyard roof. Overall pleasant enough but there is no value for money here and the food is mediocre to say the least. The pappardelle was delicious but the Calves liver was just ok but wasn’t worth the £23 price tag especially when each side is another £6 and the broccoli (calabrese) was terribly overcooked and looked like it had been sitting around for hours (we were booked at 6.30pm!!). There are substantially better and better value Italian restaurants to choose from and I don’t think I’ll be spending here again. We were having dinner with friends and they had booked so did not feel the need to make any issues at the time. That said it was very busy as usual.

Fairly nice restaurant with good and varied menu. Food was good but nothing exciting.....and rather expensive. Sunday lunch was rather crowded and very noisy. Service a little slow and waiters should try to be a little more cheerful (as good Italian restaurants should be).

I flagged to the waiter that I was allergic to gluten (coeliac) and I ordered gluten free pasta. There was lots of confusion with our order and the waiters kept bringing food that wasn't ours. Within 6 hours of eating, I started to feel seriously unwell and spent the next 2 days in bed. I emailed the restaurant and explained the situation and there response was "there is now no way an allergy could have been missed by kitchen staff". I do not think this is an acceptable response - I will not be returning to the restaurant and would highly recommend that anyone with allergies avoids going!

'La Famiglia' has been a favourite for some years and we visited last night with family to celebrate our 45th Wedding Anniversary. We were readily moved to a round table in the Garden Conservatory area after not liking the initial table that was offered. The restaurant was extremely busy which was good to see. I can never resist the Parmigiana which three of us chose and it was as good as I remember. The bean and prawn salad was also very good as was the Mozzarella. We drank House white as we did last time and it was extremely pleasant and as we had some quantity it helped moderate the final bill. Most of our group opted for Pasta as a main course so several different types were tasted including with the wild boar sauce; pasta with half a lobster and 'Gramigna' with pancetta and pecorino cheese. I opted for the fresh tuna steak with an additional side of sautéed potatoes. The tuna was perfectly cooked and came with fresh mint, lemon and olive oil - it was very good. Service throughout was good to excellent and there is a lively vibe that adds to the 'La Famiglia' experience. I thought perhaps for the sake of a pound or so, they could have thrown in the two small pieces of Tiramisu that arrived with sparklers to celebrate our Anniversary so was a little disappointed to see £18 added to the bill but hey - restaurants are clearly making up from the impact of Covid so one shouldn't expect too much. The bill including service was very reasonable and I would happily return.

Don't get me wrong, we like 'La Famiglia' but last night didn't hit the spot. Be choosy about your table when you arrive, as initially we were given an inside table with no air flow and asked to move to one where, on a stifling night, at least you had some reprieve. Service initially was slow and we seemed to wait a long time before we could order wine. We went for the House White which wasn't cheap and memory fading from our last visit, wasn't particularly nice and far too warm. My daughter gave up on it and ordered red! Service from some waiters was surly and I felt the serving of the plates and filling of the wine glasses was anyhow. I asked for extra bread with my 'Melanzana' which never arrived. I always go for the 'Melanzana' but last night it wasn't good with cloying cheese and little evidence of Aubergine. It was also swimming in oil from the excess of grilled cheese. The Prawn and Bean salad was good. For main courses, we all opted for a pasta. They were OK, my Capellini with White Truffle Oil and black truffles was not memorable. My daughter visited the week before with some friends and was disappointed then too. The buzz and the overall ambiance of the restaurant is delightful and very Italian and the lighting is good. However, increased prices and what I felt were reduced portion sizes means that we will give 'La Famiglia' a miss for a while, particularly as including the delay in ordering some wine, we were in and out in an hour and £134 pounds poorer. That included a 13.5% service charge that wasn't deserved on last night's level of service (but it was easier to pay the 'discretionary' charge than try to get it deducted!).

You know as soon as you enter the restaurant and receive the warm welcome by the friendly staff that this is going to be something special. I have been coming for many years since the early 80 and never been disappointed. The whole experience is enhanced by excellent service, many of the staff have been here for the last 30 years and this is a good sign. Fantastic food and experience, considering the 2020 pandemic, service and food is still amazing. Yes it costs but it is worth every penny. When it was time to leave, I began longing for my next visit.

La Famiglia was a lovely dinner with my family and friends. The food was so delicious, typical Tuscan food in a homey atmosphere. I ordered the Pappardelle cinghiale and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. Our waiter Luigi was extremely warm and gave good advice when it came time for the sweet. The staff are lovely friendly, kind and so helpful. We will be definitely back next week.

I called them for a reservation in 30 minutes and the host was able to get me a table for the outside area. Blankets were provided and the sun was nice. The Italian food was delicious. We each had an individual pasta, one with truffles, sea food and a meaty one. We shared appetizers and the fish. Good quality and will coming back again.

Finally visited this Chelsea institution after having wanted to dine there for a long time. The menu is great, with plenty of antipasti, meat, fish, and, of course, pasta options. Bread, breadsticks, and tapenade were served before ordering which is a lovely touch and a delicious way to start the meal. For a first course we shared the bruschetta which was made with fresh tomatoes, basil and plenty of olive oil. We then both ordered the truffle pasta - lovely fresh thin pasta with plenty of truffle and olive oil, absolutely delicious. To finish the meal we shared the tiramisu and, despite not being a fan of the dessert or coffee, I loved it. Overall, a fantastic meal, delicious food in a charmingly italian setting. Food is expensive, as is the wine, but quality is impressive whilst portions may be quite small.

The atmosphere is fantastic. The look of the restaurant, the behaviour of the attentive staff and the FOOD made us feel like we were in Italy. The restaurant, despite its size, still makes you feel like its a 'local' restaurant.

I’ve been going to this restaurant for a number of years now and have always enjoyed my experience. Of course, we always used to come for the pasta especially the Spaghetti with clams and we were never disappointed. However, me and my partner visited the restaurant on the 22nd February and the food was not to the usual standard and spaghetti was overcooked and not as nice as previously. We also ordered the spaghetti with tomato sauce and this was also overcooked. Unfortunately the food did not taste the same and I’m very sad this has happened as we used to love coming here.

We had a lively and enjoyable evening dining with friends at La Famiglia. The place was bursting at the seams on a Monday night, a sure sign that incentives (Eat Out to Help Out) work. In order to maximise this potential, four of us were sat on a table designed for two (in close proximity to a number of other similarly seated tables); whilst this was rather cramped, in an odd way it added to the atmosphere. The food, the main reason for the visit, was excellent -- the star of which was the lobster pasta and pretty good Spaghetti Vongole too (apart from one which had rather too much oil). Starters and desserts were good if not particularly memorable. Service was delivered with an eccentric charm which added to the overall experience. Would recommend although perhaps best to visit on a night when the restaurant is not operating at >100% capacity.

Visited on recommendation and took family as a treat. Mediocre food and could produce better at home. Staff pleasant and obliging, but this floored us. It was our 50th anniversary, but we had said nothing to the restaurant, but one of our party unbeknown to us went up and told one of the waiters. Guess what... a portion of Tiramisu arrived with a candle stuck in the middle... okay but slushy... could not believe it when I paid the bill to find £9.50 on it for that mediocre pudding! Some restaurants really need to get their heads around client care and PR. Never in a million years would I have charged anyone for that 'treat'! Needless to say we will never go again until the food improves and it lives up to its 'supposed' reputation.

This is not the place to go if you want to talk over a relaxing meal. The noise was horrendous we couldn't hear each other as people were talking so loudly and as the room is all tiled it rings off the walls. We had had enough after the main course and left. Food good but expensive, very mean with the meagre amount of bread offered, I would have been embarrassed to put this tiny amount on the table. Drinks served without the mixers and quickly taken away when asked for more. Everything whisked away the second it was finished so hung on to my glass for dear life. Ask for a table in the tented area at the back which may be a little more peaceful. £50-£60 for two courses without drinks, just the food

Chelsea
Wealth courses through The King's Road, Chelsea's upmarket artery of West London life packed with shops, eateries and glitzy nightspots. For people-watching at its best and luxury retail therapy that's largely unrivalled, this area cannot be missed. But if this showy street starts to overwhelm or a moment of price tag shock sends you reeling, a quick detour down pretty much any of many King's Road veins will reveal a quieter side of Chelsea. Here the stately Royal Hospital hosts its world-famous flower show, and the Thames rolls along at a lazy pace, with leafy Battersea Park and its Peace Pagoda beckoning from across the river.
