We discovered this restaurant by accident, noticing it while driving up Southampton Row and curious that it was so full of young Asian diners - never a bad sign. Since we hadn’t booked we had to wait but we soon discovered why this restaurant draws such discerning clientele. The barbecued meats, which you grill at your table over a freshly delivered urn of smouldering charcoals which sit in the pit of your dining table, are fabulously tasty and tender. We also had shrimp tempura and a big plate of sushi, both of which were exquisite. We can’t wait to go again - we hadn’t even tried their hotpot.

Tables are well distanced and your temperature is taken when you first arrive which is reassuring. The menus are disposable.
Chicken Guoza as a starter were very nice accompanied by various dipping sauces The spicy pork belly is great and when accompanied by the mixed vegetables was very filling. The mix of food is great and the fact that you can chose what you cook and when on the hot coals makes for a very relaxed experience. Good choice for vegetarians and vegans also.

I brought my mum here Wednesday evening-6th December, and had the best meal I've had in ages! The food and service were second to none despite how busy they were. You know you've made a great choice when everyone else there is Japanese apart from us lol. Even my disabled 86 year old mum said she'd be happy to make a special trip back to London to try more of the menu!
I highly recommend this restaurant. It's fun, delicious and not stupid prices. The menu is more aimed at meat/fish lovers but plant based options are availible. It's more of a canteen, bistro based place-like many authentic Japanese diners, so don't expect a plush environment, but who cares when you can dine on A5 wagyu that you don't need a 2nd mortgage for!
We were lucky enough to arrive on their 5th anniversary so they had a special offer going, which we were unaware of, so even their usual prices are very reasonable for the quality you're getting. They were exceptionally kind to us as we were in London for my graduation, so they gave us our excellent sake on the house. We had the house sake as neither of us are experts on it. It was however excellent!
My mum loves a pudding, which they didn't do, but this is a typical Japanese diner style restaurant that tends to specialise their menu-in this case yakiniku BBQ, sukiyaki and sushi. The karaage chicken is to die for!

So good! My boyfriend and I go all the time and have taken our parents as well. We all love it. We've tried the spicy chicken ramen, beef noodle, seafood ramen, chicken teriyaki, salmon teriyaki, and the yaki-shabu beef. Everything tastes great, and we are always warmly welcomed by the staff.

So glad we booked this restaurant on our visit to London. Located between Russell Square and Holborn this very busy popular restaurant didn’t disappoint. The service was great and the staff were very helpful and explained everything so well. Cooking your own food over the hot coals in the middle of your table was a treat and the choice of ingredients very good.
We certainly recommend this restaurant which was good value for money

Love this place - it’s just a short walk from Russel Square and Holborn. Serve authentic food and sushi. Offers not Korean/Japanese grill and hotpot too, if you go as a group it’s more affordable and I would recommend booking in advance if possible as it gets very busy.

It’s ok-ish.
We had Yakiniku wagyu, ox tongue, beef ribs and vegetables.
The ribs were the best, somehow disappointed with the Wagyu.
Service is average too.
We had reservation 20:30 and arrived 20:10. The table was ready and we got seats right away.
What surprised us was the fact that at 20:30 the waitress told us that in case we wanted to add some other meat to the order we should do it right away as the kitchen closes…
Given the chance, we would not return.

My family and I were at Charco Charco Bloomsbury, London. The guy who welcomed us and explained their menu was good and friendly, although the rest of the staff had a bit more difficulty in communicating in English. The food was fresh and good. They were quite pricey though but worth the experience.

Six of us had a fabulous meal on Monday, 10th July, 2023. All the staff were welcoming, very helpful in suggesting what we might order and the food was fresh, different, so tasty and just delicious. A couple of our guests said it was the best meal they’d ever had!
The manner in which the food is cooked, at your table, is quite exciting and good fun.
All the staff were great and ‘Nathan’ who looked after us was friendly, efficient and, icing on the cake, a Manchester City fan! Will definitely return next time we’re in London.

This was a fantastic place for Japanese food. The staff were fantastic and the food was out of this world! We had the nigiri platter, wagyu rice box amongst other things and we could not find a single fault. It a must visit when in London.

The staff try very hard to please which is always good to see. The food was okay although I wasnt sure whether they were trying to be a Japanese restaurant or Korean barbecue. The barbecue lacked all the trimmings of an authentic one as served in Korea. The food was fine although doesnt stand out from other Japanese restaurants in London. Would I go again? Yes if in the area but I probably would not make a special trip.

We happened to find this restaurant when walking along the street. We didn't have a booking so waited for 10-15 minutes. The staff were very friendly and the restaurant had a great vibe. After our wait for a table, the staff offered us drinks on the house, and I recommend the sakura blossom mocktail. We ordered a platter of sushi which melted in our mouth as well as extremely crispy prawn tempura. Lastly, we ordered 3 plated of well sliced meat which we cooked ourselves on a charcoal grill. Amazing food and I would definitely eat there again.

We booked a table in advance, and still got a bad table. Fortunately we got moved to a better table when it got available. The food was just amazing. We had the wagyu, maki and chicken. The vibe in the restaurant is very cool and I really like the concept. Only thing to point out is that we would have liked more information about the food and how they grill it as we didn’t really understand what was happening at times…

What can I say? Authentic Japanese food divinely prepared!
You live across the street and you never go there because you foolishly think it's worth traveling just to enjoy an authentic Japanese dinner?? Wrong!!!
Downstairs one of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever tried before in Europe, at least!
Very fresh and top quality food, very kind chefs who prepare Japanese delights at the table itself! There is even a mini barbecue in the center of each table!!!! Delightful staff! Well done! Well done! Well done! Congratulations to the chef and to those who prepare the dishes: works of art!! All the best. Every time I'll be in my London, I'll visit you!🙏🏽
