We chose this place because it looked as if nearly all their customers were Chinese or of Chinese descent so we assumed they would know what to look for. We weren't disappointed. The menu has all the standard dishes you'd find in a Chinese restaurant anywhere but they also had loads of dishes we'd never heard of that several of the Chinese groups were tucking into. The food took a while to arrive but was worth the wait.

Good Szechuan food and ambience

Arrived with no reservation and a certain hurry, in a well packed restaurant, but we were quickly seated. The food we had was spicy as we may expect in a genuine Szechuan restaurant, in a true Chinese ambience. The fried chicken with hot pepper was excellent, same as the wanton soup. Spice is paramount here, but you can also find some dish not to say "Dracarys!" True Chinese treat by the waiters, we liked it! Price was quite reasonable. Will definitely come back, in a less hurry, and would recommend it to those who like a real Chinese experience

Phenomenal and Abundant Food at a Reasonable Price

So happy that we found this place close to our hotel by to Leicester Square. Despite a bit of a language barrier, the service was good and efficient. The atmosphere was attractive, clean, and comfortable. The star though is the food. We ordered the Set B menu for two. Dish after delicious dish came out, and it is impossible to pick a favorite. If you feel confused picking a Chinese restaurant in London and you are is the LS area, this is a great choice.

Not worth the price

We anticipated going to a buffet but we soon realised on a Saturday evening in December that wasn’t happening. We ended up here the line was quiet long we were given a raffle ticket, and eventually given a table. The decor is very nice it’s spotless clean in here and nice atmosphere. Unfortunately I found the food sub par my spicy chicken whilst I expect a crunch was so over cooked and dry, it was not tasty and for £17 I expected more, rice on the side is extra and the portion of rice was small. I know we are facing inflation but there are better options in China town offering value for money. £12.50 for chicken satay starter small portion is excessive, the service is slow as they are trying to serve the demand which means the service is lacking. I asked for the service charge to be removed because quiet frankly I’d paid enough for food I didn’t eat much of or like. I’d return only if there was a deal on and I’d stick to dishes that you can’t get wrong like chicken and black bean etc.

From a great establishment to horrendous eating joint.

Wow wow wow. How bad can things get. This was once my favourite restaurant in Soho, but somebody, somewhere along the line has managed to destroy this place. Non-existent service where you are forgotten about and utensils are not provided. Starters arrive at the same time as the main course. One person receives a full size plate, the other receives a tiny one. The bill doesn't include the prices of individual items so you have no idea if it's accurate or not. American Express is not accepted. Service is included but they press gang you into paying extra service charge. The food is so greasy that is inedible. Avoid Avoid Avoid

Fabulous authentic Sichuan cuisine in London's Chinatown.

I was treated to dinner by some business associates (Thanks Patrick & David) at 'Er Mei' Sichuan restaurant in London's Chinatown. Having spent a lot of time in China I can say with confidence that the food at Er Mei is both authentic and delicious. We had a wide range of dishes and all were excellent, especially the Aubergine with Minced Pork. The Tsing Tao beer was also ice cold. Service was prompt and friendly and there is even Karaoke available too. Highly recommended.

The food was authentic Sichuan style, which is good, but two dishes we ordered were way too salty. The bigger problem is the service. The waitress looked impatient, and talked to us only when she pushed us to order more dishes - we ended up finishing only about 2/3 of what we ordered. When we paid the bill, they showed me a printed list of orders, but a hand-written sum, and asked us to add tips. When I asked if their sum already included service charge like many other restaurants in London do, they didn't answer my question directly, but instead said it did not include xiaofei (tips in Chinese), so I added tips, only realizing later I had paid both service charge and tips. Not honest.

Worst service ever!

I have never reviewed anyone with bad review. This was my Worst experience, never imagined such a poor hospitality and others needs to know this - to be saved from being victim of this restaurant. We went there with a happy face, kindly talked n order the food, even though the staff speaks bear minimum english. 1stly, The staffs didn’t welcome us, she was very rude with the way she approached us. 2nd, she added extra order in our food which we hadn’t ordered, mentioned or talk about. They came twice with the same food and smashed on our table with the angry face! We felt humiliated, unrespected, shocked cause she made us feel like criminals. However we very politely informed her that we didn’t order that food but she was forcing us to accept the food which we didn’t ordered. I think it’s their trick n scam to people adding food and selling forcefully. Lastly, we found man’s hair in our food, we kindly talked to the manager about it after the payment, her response was ‘what’ ‘sorry’ ‘what’ she also didn’t understand english and wasn’t trying to understand. Waste to talk with them! Waste of time, waste of money! Just by this incident our day was ruined! Dan dan noodle dry was bad was well!

Excellent food, good service

Delicious, fresh food. Grace was an excellent waitress :-) . Service was fine - the staff were attentive and warm considering the restaurant was busy. Recommend the sweet and sour prawns, aubergine with chilli and peppers, and sweet and sour chicken! Highly recommend this place.

A good choice to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine

Restaurant Er Mei is a good choice if you want to enjoy authentic Chinese cuisine. In fact the food was so delicious, we ate here twice during our four day stay in London. It’s also possible to choose the spiciness of a dish yourself. Friendly service and what surprised us especially was that young people have as well discovered this restaurant, they were fully present here.

Rude and Racist Waiter

A very bad and terrible experience!😡 A male waiter require to take away and clean up when even when we haven't finished the food yet. The waiter also urged us to leave quickly before we finished eating, because he said that someone was waiting. But there are many empty tables in the store, and no one is waiting in line. While treating our Asians rudely, he sent milk tea to other tables without urging them. What a Racist! 💢 It's even a Chinese restaurant. By the way, the food is not good either.

Really terrible experience, regret to choose this restaurant. Food is terribly salty. Service is bad. We have been waited for around one hour for one hour. There are not enough servants obviously so the environment is messy and unpleasant. There are many good Spicy food restaurants nearby, why do we choose this?

Very very salty

Visited recently with a small party. Food lovely and spicy. Had a range of dishes:- offal, chicken, pork, fish, veggies. Most dishes over-salty to the point that you could not taste any other ingredient except salt.. Such a shame. Pricey too, but this would not matter if food was better. Please ditch the salt and let us taste the true flavours! Xx

Quiet & unassuming from the outside, excellent on the inside. We have visited quite irregularly over the past 10 years but our review remains the same, a solid 5 stars. Try the double-cooked pork belly, arguably one of London’s most under-rated dishes.

Spicy Sichuan Delight!

Very nice authentic Chinese food with lovely sichuan flavours enveloping every meal. The vegetarian Mapo tofu with rice was delicious. The stir fry beef and chilli was very succulent dish. Flavours were top notch. Issues: Rice portions should be larger and very limited vegetarian main meal options.
