Local with a nice name that refers - playing on the name - to the ... ripper who "operated" around here. We are in Whitechapel, in the East End, multi-ethnic and full of clubs of all trends. Here you come for the fish & chips which is excellent. There is a whole card to choose the favorite fried to match the canonical chips; from the usual cod to the excellent haddock (we don't like to translate it is great so '), but also squid, breed, halibut (high price) and many others. As mentioned we chose haddock and it was perfect, but also the squid were delicious. First, however, we removed the whim of the gluttonous "whitebait" or fried fish. Dessert with sticky toffee pudding in three versions: caramel, ginger or chocolate (chosen this, liked it) or the inevitable cheesecake. Large portions, medium to high prices, but that's the way it is in London.

Group of 10 ladies descended on this restaurant around 12 noon before catching train from Euston and needed quick service - that is exactly what we got and more. We ordered various breakfasts; chips; sandwich's and all 10 of us was very pleased with the efficient customer service; quality of food and very reasonable prices. I like my food so to take the time to give this review it needed to be good. Well done Jack the Chipper and thank you - we did catch our train on time!!!

Traditional fish & chips restaurant with a vintage flavor, from the decoration (US dinner roll), the music (classics from the mid-20th century) and even a chef with a sailor hat. It does not deceive and offers what you are looking for. 100% fast food product British but without falling into the shabbiness and rehash of other more touristy places. I chose the star dish (cod), accompanied by homemade fries and a more than correct tartar sauce. Draft Coca-Cola (very old school) to accompany. It took them just 2-3' to serve me. The staff could be a little more friendly (they didn't even ask me if I wanted dessert and they brought me the bill 1' after I had finished without asking me first).

I live in the Whitechapel area and after the first small Jack the Chipper on the corner of Osborn St and White Chapel High Street opened I would occasionally buy haddock and chips as a treat. At that time the fish was excellent and the haddock was cooked while you wait. I was concerned when the business was moved to the large store on Whitechapel Street and suspected the quality of the food would drop. Tuesday I decided to take the chance. Unfortunately my worst fears were met. The piece of haddock was precooked. It looked dry and shruken. As I left I the smell of rancid fat seeped from my bag. When I got home I was able better to check it, The batter was very thin. This might seem trivial but the whole purpose of batter is to ensure the fish is cooked free of fat, effectively steamed in its own juices. I scraped off the batter and found a very dry fish giving off a smell of ammonia. I immediately binned it. Ammonia is a warning that bacteria have started the decay process. Perhaps I should have kept the fish and shown it to local trading standards but the smell was overwhelming so an expensive piece of fish is now being composted via my local food recycling service and I am going to have to find somewhere else for my occasional fish dinner treat.

The waitress told me that they didn’t have the drink I asked for even though I was staring right at it. Our main meals came before the entree’s and the fish was very average. Felt like they were rushing us and we nearly had a heart when we got the bill $56 Aud for very basic fish and chips and $42 Aud sercharge was just ridiculous.

Excellent fish and chips. Loved the thick hand cut chips. Very attentive service. A but on the expensive side but worth it. We finished our main courses and while chatting the owner brought us a plate with sticky toffee pudding and told us “try it and enjoy it”. “Wow” desert on the house” we thought until I received the bill inclusive 6.9 pounds plus service charge for the sticky toffee pudding we were “offered”. We felt a bit sad, a bit cheated but paid and left without making a fuss because we had enjoyed the food and the service and did not want to end the day on a false note. BUT Therefore only 2 stars.

Asked for steak pie and chips Chips however no steak pies. So ordered chicken, advertised as just chicken but when I enquired was told it had mushroom in. Why it's not advertised as chicken and mushroom the waiter couldn't answer and when I said to change the menu to reflect the real pie he just shrugged. Decided on sausage and chips. Chips, were were okayish, I've had far better. however the sausage was a, strange tasting thing. Won't be going there again. Not cheap either with £3.50 for a coke! Next time I'll go to the KFC a few doors, away at least they display on their menu what you're getting

Having just visited the Van Gogh experience round the corner, it was lunchtime and we were a bit hungry so we went on the hunt for something to eat. Jack The Chipper caught our eye so we thought we’d give it a go. We were greeted warmly and drinks were served quickly. I can be fussy about fish and chips but oh my. I am a huge fan of the East Neuk for a chipper but I have to say I think this was my favourite ever. Freshly cooked haddock and chips, moist, flaky fish and batter to die for. Chips spot on. T’other had the large haddock and also really enjoyed it. He was especially taken with the Hells Lager. I was nicely full, not stuffed, perfect portion size for me. The service was perfect, so smiley and friendly. I had a latte after as I needed a wee caffeine hit, again, just perfect. When we got the bill, out came a wee pile of Fruit Salad and Blackjack sweeties!! I haven’t had those for about 40 years! I was so chuffed about this that the waitress came back with a few more. And that is what makes this place, delicious food, people who are delighted to see you enjoy your food, have a nice experience and make you feel like you are valued. Definitely will return next time we come down to London!, I loved it!

Visited on a mid week lunch time. Checked if they did Chip Rolls, told that they do chip butties... made me smile as a Northerner. Ordered this and paid. I was then told the chips would be 10 minutes... Would have liked this information first. Anyway I waited. Very decent chips were served with a 'roll', which was a brioche bun. I asked why such a sweet roll for chips. Young woman was pleasant enough and said that's what they sold. Manager that day, small dark haired guy was constantly surly with the Young Woman and had no time for any customers that came in - she seemed as I said pleasant. Fairly pricey.. pie and chips nearly £10. Goddards were doing pie, chips and a tea for £6.50. I appreciate it's in the centre of Greenwich, a tourist hotspot but still too pricey, although I would return to check out the fish as chips solid.

On Friday 17th March 2023. We had just arrived into London for 1800hrs for a 2 night stay. Staying at the leonardo Royal Tower bridge hotel , We had spotted the Jack The Chipper Restaurant as we drove along the High Street We were greeted by friendly staff inside the restaurant who offered us the choice of tables. Inside is really nice, a kind of American style diner. We were given plenty of time to read the menu & I opted for the small Cod & Chips whilst hubby opted for the Jumbo Battered Sausage & Chips. Both arrived freshly cooked & looked delicious I wasn't too sure about mine, priced at £15.90, the fish looked rather small however, It was absolutely delicious & by the end, I was glad I'd only ordered the small as it as very filling indeed. The hubby's meal also got the thumbs up too. Along with the table service charge, our bill was £33. We are going back to London in November & will certainly be returning back to Jack the Chippers. 10/10 from us

Apart from being well over priced, they use ground nut oil and only declare this in tiny print on their menu. When challenged they said it wasn’t their responsibility but the buyers if they have a nut allergy. Not true! They need to put big signs up before someone dies! Like the tragic Pret incident.

My two sons and i are from the U.S. and wanted some great fish n chips. When asked for suggestions on fish n Chips restaurants, our uber driver suggested this place. So glad we followed his suggestion. Excellent quality food and big portions. Very clean restaurant. Charlie is a very affable host and a sharp businessman who focuses on the total satisfaction of the customer. I've tried their cod, fish cakes, and calamari. They're all good (especially the fish cakes). But my favorite is their awesome beef lasagna! My sons like their fish n Chips as well as the chicken pasta dish (della?). And their chips are great! Just make sure to save room for dessert! We Got sticky toffee pudding, chocolate cake, and banoffee pie. All excellent!! Again, Charlie and his staff are absolute rock stars. It was a blessing to dine in this establishment. Looking forward to our visit again.

Hi just to let you know I’ve been watching the shop for sometime but I’ve never had the chance to go in until a few days ago and I noticed they were very friendly. I think they are Turkish. I spoke to him about I love my fish and chips and it has to be the best they said to me they understand and I had fish and chips with a friend of mine. I noticed the portions of the fish were small and I noticed the chips wasn’t freshly cooked end of a good potato like Maurice Pipers, so I felt it was a little bit expensive and the quality was not there, I doubt if I’ll be going there again

Has anyone see oily, dry chips, could not believe the potato was fasting and I complained and they replaced the chips, so disappointed. They stood over me, making my food cold to ask if am ok? No. Dried up end with oil saturated in them, was undesirable, for the chocolate Queen 👸🏽 Every different colour white person was served the best and I get some messed up dried up chips and had to pay £14.90 for the haddock. They offered me wine, which failed to removed the sadness I faced for the first time. I shakes my head in shock and sadness. Never going there again… Trade and standards as a black person should experience this place. Maybe they will treat everyone the same for a change. Whitechapel wow 😮

Whilst the Greenwich branch is a bit awkward to eat inside with little space. The fish and chips were cooked fresh, with the right level of crispiness and thickness to the batter and the chips were a good size portion, not greasy. The staff were friendly and helpful especially with my young child providing additional cutlery and sauces for her. Would go again in Greenwich or Whitechapel.

Whitechapel
Whether you're here for its dynamic street life, world class galleries or famed curry houses, you're bound to be wowed by the uniquely cosmopolitan flavor of Whitechapel. Long gone are the days when Jack the Ripper stalked its streets. And despite his mysterious legacy bringing throngs of curiosity driven tour groups to its back alleys and otherwise serene garden squares, these days you're more likely to catch a cutting edge fashionista scurrying through its age old lanes than criminals of any sort.
