Manteca restaurant offers an eclectic array of dishes that have captivated many diners with their innovation and execution, though the crab pasta and portion sizes have left some guests wanting. While the atmosphere is praised for its vibrant energy and soundtrack, there are reports of it feeling overcrowded and excessively loud. Opinions on the service and value are divided; patrons commend the attentive staff but also recount experiences with poor service. Additionally, the restaurant's pricing is a topic of debate, balancing reasonable rates against smaller servings.

Booked on a whim (after Googling “best pasta in London”) my partner and I were blown away with this restaurant. The unassuming location and frontage on Great Marlborough Street might have easily seen us walk past, which would have been our loss! Top quality sharing plates, with an Italian leaning vibe and excellent pasta, washed down with some delicious (and surprisingly reasonable) cocktails. The staff were all delightful (especially the lovely lady that served us) and we started planning our next trip before the bill arrived - always a good sign! Total bill, including 2 cocktails and 12.5% service came to £54 and we left full! I’d challenge you to find better quality AND value anywhere else in the area. Can’t wait to come back.

Loved visiting this place - the staff were so friendly and helpful and the cocktails were delicious and very reasonably priced. We came during September when there was a deal on but food is still very reasonably priced. I would suggest getting a table in the dining room rather than downstairs as the atmosphere was a bit better up there but still very pleasant downstairs!

Came with a friend and the only negative thing I can reference is the front door (you’ll see what I mean). Lovely decor Beautiful wine choice by our waiter. Incredible food (literally every mouthful was delicious). We got the focaccia, burrata, potatoes with roe, crab cacio Pepe and parpadelle ragu. Highly recommend, we had a lovely evening. Great value (around £70 for 2 which was 5 plates and a carafe of great wine)

We had booked a table but still had to wait over 20 minutes to be seen to it. We came here based on the special menu they offer with a deal for a starter and main for £10. DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THIS DEAL. We were so shocked by how tiny the portions were that we wanted to order another meal. After having spoken to 3 waiters to express our hunger, the manager finally came and told us the kitchen was shut. He admitted to the fact that the special menu is at least half size portions and if he were eating there he would have ordered at least double the amount. At no point were we told that this menu was such small portions. We were made to feel very uncomfortable by him. He took the service charge off the bill !! Definitely won't be returning.

The food was amazing, high quality, really tasty. We had an assortment of different starters and pasta. The reason for low score was mostly the atmosphere. It may be very personal but I found it too busy, too fast. There were so many people working, the food came extremely fast, there were so many people, tables almost on top of each other. It just didn't feel relaxing. We ordered and ate in 30-40min we were done. I think to pay this amount of money you want to enjoy the experience and your meal, slow down but just the whole atmosphere felt very rushed almost like fast food (but an expensive one).

Unfortunately doesn't live up to the hype. Some bright sparks like the in-house charcuterie and great focaccia lifted an otherwise disappointing meal. The music was far too loud making conversation difficult, and overall the food didn't meet the price tag. Whole lemon sole (£29) was overcooked with meat going mushy, under seasoned and not a hint of crispy skin. All served on a tiny plate making eating it very difficult. Hare Ragu was not emulsified in any way meaning where there should have been a rich glossy sauce clinging to pasta there was instead dry pappardelle with some flakes of meat scattered over. Whilst staggered service is becoming the norm we had a starter (small plate) delivered after the pasta and one main came when everybody else had finished eating. Good wine list and a great chocolate torte for dessert, and other tables nearby had meat (pork chop looked great), but I won't be returning and believe there are other options out there that are better value for money and an all round better experience.

Had an early dinner tonight and must first of all mention the staff. Our waiter was attentive and super friendly and when he saw that we didn’t really enjoy one of the side dishes (grilled greens which had ‘reds’ in it, with a salsa rossa that was extremely hot and kind of smothered the veg), he got it taken off the bill. The manager also chatted to us about it and that was much appreciated. The rest of the food was very good, especially the ox cheek pappardelle (they do come very much al dente though). So perhaps 4 stars for the food but 5 for the service!

We had the most brilliant meal at Manteca. The service was initially a little slow, however was quick after we had ordered a drink. Both the host and our waitress were very friendly and genuine. To start, we had the sausage, burrata and focaccia. These were all absolutely delicious! Some of the finest dishes I've had for a long time. We then shared three pastas - the ox cheek ragu pappardelle, the brown crab tonnatelle and the rigatoni. They were all very tasty, but the ragu was especially special. The house red wine was nice, All in all, this was an excellent meal in a lovely setting and I will be sure to recommend to all my friends/family. I also will be returning!

Loved everything about this new restaurant up to the moment at 19.02 when the manager asked me to vacate the table. The reservation was at 17.45, so I was apparently expected to complete the dining experience in 77 minutes. The food is excellent, the service is great and the ambiance is fun - but if I wanted fast food, I’d have gone to McDonalds. It seems both experiences cause indigestion and irritation, but at least I wouldn’t feel abused and unloved and my wallet would be fuller afterwards. The message is charge more so you don’t have to try to turn the tables three or four times in an evening. The other downside here is the size of the tables, which are simply too small - mainly because they’re so keen to rush you through the meal that you end up with all your dishes dumped on the table pretty much at the same time. Hugely disappointing.

The Manteca serves really good tasty food at reasonable prices. We visited for lunch and shared everything. The highlight was the pasta dishes but the starters were also excellent, particularly the pink fir potatoes. The atmosphere is not particularly Italian but the hand made pasta tastes authentic Italian. Good helpful service and an extensive wine list. Would thoroughly recommend and a great choice if you wish to share plates.

We went to the Shoreditch branch for lunch, it was very busy, sadly the service was not great and we waited ages for our pasta, kale rigatoni was very good and was first to arrive, the crab cacio and Pepe arrived 15 minutes later after multiple requests . The pasta was cold and disappointing all I could taste was lemon, our starters two fried olives at £3 each very overpriced but delicious (similar to olive ascolane), the ricotta started was also good with sweet grapes and almonds, but you have to order the focaccia separately and to be honest you cannot eat the ricotta dish without bread/crackers. It has potential to be a good authentic Italian restaurant but the wine list needs to improve. The house white tasted like vinegar it was awful. We decided to get a middle of the range wine but even that was not at the level! Maybe I am a little bias but I was in Rome last week and I had the world best cacio and Pepe at Roscioli and there wine list is to die for

Myself and a friend went to Manteca for Lunch on 29th March and unfortunately received the worst service I’ve had at a restaurant in some time. There was a total lack of attention and hospitality received at our table whilst larger tables received personalised service for the duration of their stay, with one waiter consistently providing quality service to one specific table whilst our table received next to none from any waiters. We waited over 30 minutes for someone to offer to take our order after my friend arrived. I then received my first course half an hour after this, which wasn’t too bad. However, there was no sign of my friend’s plate anywhere near. Her first course arrived nearly 30 minutes after mine, which meant she was sitting at the table hungry for quite a long time after I’d received my meal. There was absolutely no co-ordination of the meals. We were supposed to have a second course and saw no sign of this course either for nearly 30 minutes after the first. Due to the lack to service and attention to our table and having already been in the restaurant for over two hours. we cancelled our second course and decided to leave. It took near enough 2 hours to receive just one course and it was so difficult to get the attention of any waiters for anything. When we notified a different waiter regarding the issues of our waiting times, he informed that one of the second courses takes 45 minutes hence the wait (no explanation as to the wait for the first course) however we were not notified of this prior to our ordering the food, otherwise we would have ordered something else. The food itself was okay. I had the Duck Ragu which was nice but there was nothing outstanding about the meal that you couldn’t get elsewhere with better service. As a word of advice, only go here if you plan on going in a huge group of 10+. It’s the only way you’ll receive quality service. Such a shame.

I went to Manteca when it was based in Soho - well over a year ago - and still day dream about the crab pasta. Super pleased to see this place open again in Shoreditch and those superstars from the last menu to make an appearance (the chicken liver parfait is also ridiculously good, and the truffle pasta is on another planet). Great vibes, friendly service, and everything you order is genuinely DELICIOUS (try as many things as you can, you really can't go wrong) and everything is really reasonably priced. A great place for a weekday meal but equally great for an occasion.

Booked this as a follow up to a large lunch on the expectation that we could flex options and portions according to how hungry we might have been. Turned out to be a perfect choice. From the start, our server Emmanuel was amazing. Super friendly and welcoming and despite being clearly extremely busy was on hand throughout as we needed him. The menu reads simple but interesting. Some familiar options and some you won't get on every neighbourhood menu. Based on our previous efforts that day I sadly didn't feel hungry enough to order everything I would have liked but what we did have was delicious. Standout dishes for me were the nduja mussels the carne crudo (beef tartare) and all of the pasta was AMAZING. I would agree with some of the negative reviews on here that some of the portions are small. Just order more, it's not expensive. If you want a big pile of something tasteless, go to Bella Italia. If you want imaginative and delicious plates which allow you to try lots of different things with friends. Come here you won't be disappointed. Great selection of reasonably priced wine and some higher end ones if that's how you roll. Atmosphere (Saturday night) was thronging. This might not be everyone's cup of tea but I loved it. Tables are tight together, it's loud, it's busy, but that's a great match for the food. Vibrant and exciting. We had a great meal and at £30/h felt full. You could come here and spend more like £50 and be stuffed but I loved the flexibility the menu offered. Will be back, hopefully with an emptier stomach so I can get through more of the menu next time. Thanks to all the team for a great evening.

Go for the lamb fritters, they're amazing! Great recommendation from the staff as they didn't have the mussels we wanted so was a spot on as a replacement. Great service too, very attentive. For a pasta restaurant it could have more pasta dishes but the overall concept is great. Either get 1 big dish and 2 small pasta dishes or 1 big + 1 small pasta dish and 2 small dishes.
