Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The restaurant was a little short-staffed as one of the team was away but the food was excellent and the service courteous. Salmon with coconut curry for me and venison pie for my husband who declared it very good. This is one of the best...places in the Village to "drop in" for anything from a cup of coffee to a full meal and we go there quite often.More

I see similar comments by other reviewers regarding the hospitality standards.Visited on Saturday around 8 am , when it was not very busy. Politely requested the person serving me for a change of table who spoke to the manager. Was spoken to rudely by the...manger. The voice was loud enough to get the attention of people seated in the place. Felt humiliated. Not sure this place needs to be in the hotel and hospitality business.More

We both had haloumi wraps - two tasty wraps for each of us accompanied by a pleasingly generous amount of salad (rather than the two lettuce leaves, a tomato and a few slices of cucumber that is provided too often). For drink, I had an...excellent freshly-squeezed orange juice. It's a good place to sit outside in a traffic-free side street with attractive architecture. Service amiable, but rather inexeperienced.More

Food ok but coffee tiny and bread even smaller. One slice of toast for a poached eggs and avocado breakfast. Smaller than my palm. For £10 with bacon. Not acceptable.

We out regularly in Wimbledon Village and our first time for lunch at the Light. For £16 I was expected a very special chicken breast. Instead we waited 45 mins for charred remains. Dry and no flavour. We found the staff were not very attentive...either. Customers were having to make a real effort to attract the attention of staff. We won't return. There are so many other first class places to choose from.More

Very disappointing, food on menu nothing like that which was advertised online. No veggie option for main, only pasta starter that was entirely unexciting. Not warned in advance of changes till menu until trying to order. Food served missing items listed on menu. Lovely waitress...but disinterested manager. Used to be lovely with varied menu with lots of choices.More

Lovely food and kind service from waiting staff however we were sat next to a table with seven elderly people who did not know eachother given the repetitive “nice to meet you” conversation overheard (pictured), and were crammed together not social distancing or sticking to...the current rule of 6. One of the ladies pulled up an additional chair that meant she was physically touching my partner...I pointed this out to the waiting staff and they said they totally understood but that the owner was sat on the table so that is the one table they can’t say anything to...very very concerning and really letting their own venue and team down. Also extremely inconsiderate. I suggest you review and take your COVID measures seriously - Fox & Grapes up the road have it spot on if you want a good example to learn from.More

Delicious early supper. Service was spot-on, the grilled pork chops were excellent and the feta salad to accompany was perfect. Chips on the side were fresh and fabulous. Not an IPA drinker but the local ale was hoppy and very refreshing.

Went for a brunch at 11:45 and rushed into ordering as the kitchen was closing before changing to the lunch menu. We felt that the staff were doing us a favour by letting us eat there, and it was rather inconvenient. The food was mediocre,...coffee lukewarm and the teapot only half full, and the waitress couldn’t wait to get rid of us! We’ve been eating at this location for over 40 years, patronising many different owners - originally “Tootsies”, and sadly this is the most disappointing, and quite expensive for what’s on offer. We didn’t leave a tip - for a good reason. Sadly not an uplifting experience.More

I had lunch at Light on the Common yesterday, the restaurant was full but there were only 2 staff in the restaurant & despite a long wait other customers who came in after us were being served before us. It was hard to get the...attention of the staff & we had to ask repeatedly for things that didn't appear the 1st time we asked & the service was rarely with a smile The restaurant was extremely hot with not enough fans to go round. The menu was very limited. Although it was nice to get government discount if you are going to add 12.5 sercice, then the service must warrant it.More

My first meal out since March 2020 and COVID. Midweek lunch slot. Expected to feel a different experience. However was just like nothing had changed. Slightly wider gap between tables that’s all. Food and staff lovely but experience and awareness by the company a bit...worrying in our present times.More

Visited this restaurant (if you can call it that) on Saturday evening for an Anniversary dinner with my husband. It is not a restaurant but a cafe set up. Did not feel like a place for a special occasion. Not the same as it’s lovely...sister restaurant. Not enough staff, the two who were there (a third turned up mid way through our stay) were run ragged. There is an outside area as well as inside plus an ice cream & beer counter for walk ins....too much for the amount of staff. Service not attentive. Had to ask for drinks more than once. After our starter we were asked if we wanted desert... hadn’t even had a main! I would not go back. Food was nice not exceptional and did not have my first choice on menu. Total disappointment. Needs more staff and decide it if wants to be a restaurant or cafe. It was more Fawlty Towers.More

Lovely cafe but slightly disappointed with the visit. Had full english which was a bit greasy. Of course my choice is not usually completely grease free but i would have liked the option to have poached eggs on the menu with the full english instead...of fried. The toast came with no butter and it made me realise i have never been given toast without butter either on it or on the side. We also had a juice which was forgotten. For the price of around £14 with tip i would have rather gone elsewhere for similar price. Seemed busy but service wasnt very attentive either. A little disappointing but would try again as lovely location and conservatory type room with lots of light.More
